The Rueben, oh my God. Hands down the best Rueben Ive ever had in my life. The Rueben is the most understated sandwich on the face of the planet. How do 5 ingredients which taste so unusual on their own come to absolute ecstasy when in combination? Yet how is it so difficult to make the perfect Rueben? The best raw ingredients arent enough. Sure, Cafe 13 has Jesus himself making the rye bread from scratch. Im convinced that the corned beef comes directly from the Queen Majesty in Great Britain, using salt from Mahatma Ghandi himself. The sauerkraut literally comes from a hundred Germans dedicated to its craft. And though I cant confirm it, the dressing must be the culmination of ingredients from quite literally a thousand islands. And the Swiss cheese! When you think of how you feel when comparing your attention to detail to that of the Swiss, this is how the Swiss feel about this cheese. And yet this alone is not enough. The correct balance of each of these ingredients is likely dictated by a higher-up of Gringotts, for none other can dictate such things with near enough accuracy. Surely this sandwich is seared in a cast iron skillet, soaking up the grease of a pig which has been fed nothing but the highest grade truffles its entire life. You dont like Ruebens? Shut up and order one. Its 7AM? Order two. Youre allergic? Well eat fast, and enjoy the entirety of this sandwich before you suffocate of anaphylactic shock, and know that there is no better way to meet your maker. I will, and literally have, driven 6 hours without stopping for the restroom to eat this Rueben.

This is in response to Rick Roberts blasting review: Rick if you want a nice quiet place for breakfast ...stay home!! If you dont want families enjoying their kids in the awesome atmosphere of Cafe 13 (those screaming children)... stay home!!! If you dont like 80s rock music on a beautiful Sunday morning...stay home!!! If you dont like gooey filled burritos (or if they dont meet your expectations) stay home!! And, the wifi its a service provided free of charge!! Its not an entitlement...If you dont like it stay home!! The only bad vibe is you...but, you are entitled to YOUR opinion... Cafe 13 was voted best Cafe in Golden, along with coffee shop...no easy feat by any means. But, the public has spoken... It just goes to show if youre looking for the norm this isnt the place for you...stay home... This is the best place on the planet to enjoy breakfast or lunch with a great vibe...very relaxed, happy and truly enjoyable...Rick...stay home...

Cafe 13 is located in the old Colorado National Guard Armory in Golden. Built in 1913, the Armory was listed in Ripleys Believe It Or Not as the largest cobblestone building in the United States. The building is made of cobblestone. Its a gorgeous building. I had the classic bacon, eggs, toast and hash brown breakfast. The bacon was mapley crispy good. Disappointed that only one piece of toast was served with the breakfast, I still had the hunger. The obvious next breakfast step in the morning continuum was to sample the green chili. It was thick, hearty and filled with pork. The flour tortilla that accompanied it was lightly sautéed all buttery slightly crisp perfection. No biscuits and gravy on the menu and a tad weak Americano, but overall a good meal and experience. The staff was way wicked friendly and smiley and talkative and nice. I will return for lunch one day. Café 13 - go there. Youll be glad you did.

I work at Mines and frequent this Cafe. I think its a nice little place and they have done quite a lot of work on fixing the inside up in the last year (since the last review was written). Personally, I like the scones with devonshire cream best. I agree though that the regular coffee isnt good so youll probably need an espresso drink to have a good experience. Ive had the cin rolls too and thought they were good, but not great. The bacon they use on their breakfast sandwhiches is fantastic! There are only 3 coffee shops downtown Golden. This is always my first choice. Give it a shot.

I won’t be back. If you’re looking for a cozy, peaceful place, especially on the weekends, this is not the place • screaming children • very obnoxious music. 80s rock mix on a Sunday morning? Really? • Goopy burrito filled with half-cooked potatoes and milky, runny eggs. And the whole thing was barely warm. • And not that I planned on sitting here for long, but the wifi has a countdown timer. Is wifi mooching really a problem in little Golden, CO? It just sends a bad vibe. Open the thing up, for Pete’s sake. Why make it difficult?

My fiancé and I stopped here for breakfast before the Coors Brewery tour. It was exactly what I hoped it would be and more. It is exactly what you would expect to find in a small mountain town. There is outdoor and indoor seating. There are 4 different indoor rooms for seating with beautiful art pieces that are also for sale. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed and I would definitely come here to do work if I lived here. The best part is that they have really good coffee! Definitely a great place for breakfast!

Now crisp and clean. New owners have it together. The decor and seating much improved. Nice gathering place, it has a community feel. Cinnamon rolls still fantastic. Many new baked treats, weve enjoyed fresh muffins, delicious eclairs with real cream, light and yummy taramasu. The coffee is above average; they use Silver Canyon and we think its among the best in town. The service is friendly and everyones fun. Lunches also good with sannies and homemade soups. Highly recommended.

As part of Childrens Hospital Colorado, we used Cafe 13 as our lunch option while on a team retreat at Connects Workspace, located behind the cafe. Cafe 13 was so accommodating to our order needs, and was timely with their delivery. They had each order clearly marked and made the lunch hour of our retreat happen without us having to think about it. The food was excellent, and no one on the team had any critiques (a rare event for our team!). Thanks, Cafe 13, we will be back!

Wonderful place for breakfast with great food and super nice people. The food is delicious, I had the blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon and everything was delicious. We ate on their outdoor "patio" area. My only suggestion is that they make an investment in improving their patio; leveling it out and putting down some sort of permanent surface other than rocks. However, Im afraid if they made their patio too nice than wed never be able to get a table!

Wow such a great breakfast spot. Some of the best organic free trade coffee Ive ever had, and the lattes are to die for. Blueberry pancakes are amazing. An all around wonderful, unique local spot. Stayed in Golden for two nights and came here each morning. Places like this are what I search for when visiting a new place. Not to mention very friendly staff. Keep it up!

Coffee with a side of sass! If you are looking for attitude, this is the place! The barista had a particularly trying morning, EVERY morning. Hopefully your mom gave you a hug before you left the house, because you are certainly going to need one after ordering breakfast here. Luckily, the breakfast burritos are delicious, because the coffee sucks.

After this place changed hands from the 13th St Bake Shop to Cafe 13 things have been cleaned up. The food and coffee are better now than ever. Really like their turkey sandwiches. The only downside is that it is so tiny you will often have to sit outside the main room. Worth a try if you are in the neighborhood!
