We didnt try any of the interesting Champaign drinks as I had to return to work after lunch and one last in our party is pregnant, but they looked great and the strawberry basil lemonade was a fantastic virgin alternative, if a bit sweet. We started our meal with their fried pickles, which were fantastic. Its not your standard bar app. Homemade, semi-spicy pickles coated perfectly in a light, crunchy batter, served with a dipping sauce similar to a Cajun Thousand Island dressing. I moved on to the smoked pork belly, which was lean, tender, with a hint of crispness at the edges, served over a bed of spicy black eyed peas and crispy, young brussels sprouts. It was finished with a sweet habañero jam that rounded the flavors out nicely. Perfect presentation, balanced and robust flavors and just rich enough to add a nice, traditional comfort food appeal to an elegant, artistic entree. My wife had a buffalo hash that very soft and rich, such was served along side some homemade corn bread. Each had a perfectly poached egg on top, which was "chicken fried". I didnt get to ask how they do that, but the end effect was exceptional. Cutting into it revealed four distinct layers: the outer layer was again a light, crunchy batter, then the whites, then some cooked yolk, and then the runny center, which she was advised to let the egg yolk "participate" in saucing the other items, which it did very nicely. I added one of their homemade biscuits, which was big, puffy, light, and buttery. It made for a nice dessert with their house jams that were already on the table. One was peppery and savory (Voodoo) and the other sweet berry flavor (Trois Baies). Nothing was particularly cheap but it wasnt a gauge either, and well worth it for the quality ingredients, careful crafting and masterful presentation. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and really have the impression that they love working there and are very proud of their offerings. I want to go back and try a specialty mimosa and their interesting benedicts and grits dishes. Quite impressed and excited to return!

vacationing in CO and ran across this awesome spot. Popped in around 10 am and were seated immediately. Eclectic and inviting atmosphere and our server was friendly, well informed and incredibly attentive. We ordered the starter biscuits and gravy (the country and smoked mushroom gravies were phenomenal!) as well as the fried green tomato Benedict and a chicken-fried egg as per our servers recommendation. The eggs (both poached and the chicken fried) were cooked to perfection and the Benedict was to DIE FOR. The buttered grits and the house-made hot sauce was on point as well. We were extremely impressed by the food and the service, I would definitely recommend this place for someone looking for a brunch a little outside the box. Prices were fair and we were incredibly full after splitting (far too much) food. Fair warning, its heavy food! Regardless, highly recommended. Thanks, Sassafrass!

...OMG! After getting stranded in Denver (motorcycle problems) and ending up at the "Hotel from Hello, I did a Bing search for nearby breakfast restaurants, and the closest one was here. I had the best breakfast ever! I highly recommend the Cajun Benedict, 2 eggs over crab cakes with a Chippolte Hollandaise sauce, with buttered grits, and two huge fried oysters. Im capable of putting down a large amount of food, but had to stretch it to finish the last few bites. The coffee was great and they give you a quart of water at a time. Amanda was awesome too. I sat outside under an umbrella, with a gentle breeze. Ive never taken 90 minutes lingering over breakfast before, but I did this time. I will definitely plan another trip to Denver, and surely drop in again. Sorry for the long review, but felt it was totally deserved. Bob from Weldona, CO..

This restaurant has some of the best food. Definitely different from the standard selection at most restaurants (Fried Green Tomatoes Benedict - yes please!). The space itself is very cozy - like eating at your grandmothers (but a hip, trendy grandmother). :) The only reason I rated it Very Good on service is because it can be very difficult to get into at peak times, and theres no rhyme or reason to making a reservation. Some days they take reservations, others not, sometimes you can call ahead, but you may still have to wait a good while when you get there - you just kinda roll the dice. If ever there was a place that needed the services of OpenTable, this is it! But I still highly recommend dining here!

I absolutely love this restaurant. Ill occasionally take clients or meet with other business friends for breakfast or lunch. The atmosphere is very relaxed and professional. The food is Cajun style and very good. I find it more affordable compared to other similar restaurants in the Denver area. For breakfast, I recommend the Buffalo Hash which has two fried poached eggs on top and has a wonderful (slightly spicy) sauce. And for lunch I particularly enjoy the Jumbalaya which comes with a generous portion of shrimp. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are all amazingly friendly and helpful. They also have some killer Bloody Marys and my wife enjoys the mimosas. Definitely a must for the Denver Foodie!

We LOVED Sassafras! The homely decor set the perfect tone for us when we walked in and it felt like I was at about to eat at Grandmas. The food was GREAT too just like my Grandmas. We started with the house donuts (because I cant spell beignets) and they married beautifully with our coffee. For our mains my wife had the sweet potato grits with roasted veggies and bacon that were soooo ridiculously good. Mine was the Country breakfast with buttermilk biscuits. Im getting hungry all over again typing this but all that said get there and you wont be disappointed. When we get back to Denver well see you there.

This place was phenomenal. I love the fact that its in an old Victorian and has a great outdoor patio. Almost missed it when I was driving by because it blended in so well with the neighborhood. Food is delicious. Good southern hospitality and the server Kevin was extremely honest and helpful when we were ordering. I recommend the Po Boy sandwich for breakfast or the Mac n cheese for lunch! My lady got the biscuits and gravy and she devoured every single bite. Definitely my new go to breakfast spot. Apple mimosa isnt bad either!

First off, the staff was great. Everyone was swamped, but kept it light and friendly, which was very awesome. We decided to go to Sassafras because of friends reviews and it being a rare 5-star restaurant on Google. Unfortunately, three of the four of us that ate here werent thrilled with the food. It wasnt bad by any means, but the catfish as well as the boudin balls were just bland. No mind blowing flavors or spice. Maybe we had high expectations with the reviews, but I did wish to have more flavor with this experience.

Love this place, a great but similar change If you love Lucilles. The gumbo is amazing as a breakfast side. Lavender lemonade is crazy good. This is the spot for some great original food and atmosphere. Be prepared for a wait, but its for good reason, this place has got the It factor. Staff is on point and the building itself is amazing and provides a great topic of conversation. If you are a local or a visitor, put this place on your to do list, it is an absolute must. Love you guys, keep up the amazing work. DONOVAN N.
