I came here about two weeks ago. We were sat promptly what I thought was the manager at the time. After sitting down not even one minute has passed and this worker passes by us and says, " So you guys sits yourself or what?" I mean Im not a customer specialist or anything but this guy was extremely rude and should know that his dad doesnt own this restaurant for mouthing off like that. Anyways we ordered the shrimp, sweet potato fries and steamed rice. Shrimp came out hot and saucy, sweet potato fries looked burned was actually well cooked. The rice was really moist and steamy. Everything was actually good and the manager turned out to be the owner and explained that it is under new management and i expressed to him how much better the food was compared to the old management. He made sure his employees were doing a good job and they were. At this point I am thinking this is a solid 4/5 star restaurant except for rude boy. Now fast forward two weeks and I come in again thinking im going to have a great dinner experience again and boy was I wrong. First of all Im not sure if they are trying to freeze the tables or what but it was COLD like Sub zero COLD. We were again sat down promptly but the owner was not present. So servers comes and I order the same order and add chicken tenders this time around. Now one thing i notice is there is constant chattering by the employees which makes it really difficult to even hear my own conversation. Its like they never saw each other for years and are having a reunion. Anyways food comes out and I notice several things. First off, the shrimp is dry as there is not sauce so I have to ask for more (REALLY?), the rice is already cold. The kicker is the server even though she is sweet does not come back and check on us so I have to wave her down. While Im waiting for the sauce, all the food is being refrigerated by the AC. Overall Ill have to knock it down two stars just for those issues. If the owner is here , you will have a great dining experience which makes the restaurant a solid 4 star but if not, then just dont come or youll be staying in sub zeros lair with high school reunion in the background.

The food is absolutely amazing. The Cajun dishes are truly authentic (gumbo and jumblya truly shine) and flavorful. But I have several complaints. 1. Only one size for the gumbo 8oz just isnt going to cut it especially for 7 dollers. 2. They "run out" of jambalaya by 3 in the afternoon fairly consistently. 3. Staff is somewhat dismissive. Not rude just kind of like oh well sorry you feel that way but its not my problem kind of vibe. 4. Certain items are over priced for what you get. For instance the jambalaya is around 14 dollers, but can almost feed 2, but for about 25 bucks I can make my own and feed 12 people. Or feed 2 and have yummy leftovers for a week. This is in addition to the affor mentioned, outrageously over priced for what you get, 7 dollers for 8 oz gumbo. Seriously 20 dollers makes me a Gallon of the stuff. 5. What you get is inconsistent. While the flavoer is always amazing and the same, what you get in it varies wildly. Ive had the gumbo about a half dozen times about half the time Ive gotten almost nothing but the broth and veggies, the other times lots of chicken, and sausage, I didnt even know their gumbo had shrimp in it till the 4th time I ordered it. Jambalaya is the same somtimes good amounts of chicken and sausage others hardly any. In conclusion if you have a craving for amazing authentic Cajun food this is the place. Just dont expect a lot for your money or overly accommodating service, or them to have what you came there for on hand. Walked away today with nothing for my trouble. If I could give it 2 and a half stars I would.

This place feels like it as a high prestige given that is it seafood based. We went there given the fact that weve always walked by it and said we would try it. There wasnt a line that a Boiling Crab usually has. The menus is very similar to that of a Boiling Crab. I find it interestingly strange how seafood places like this have an asian orient based feel to it. The food is okay, as my rice bowl contained more than 60% rice as opposed to the seafood that I paid for. The service was fairly decent, although the server repeated his name on 3 different occasions, set aside that it was written on the table cloth. Had asked for a copy of my receipt, waited 10 mins before leaving without it. Probably wouldnt go back to this place.

Came here on a whim with the BF one night! He was craving crawfish and I wanted whatever, so he order 1lb of the bayou combo or whatever it was called, and I had the garlic noodles with shrimp. The garlic noodles was bomb dot com, however my boyfriend said the crawfish was average. I think he likes the garlic butter flavor more. Also their crawfish were kind of different from other places, the shell was much harder and sharper so it was difficult to take it apart. In fact it was painful for me, lol. Our waiter was Gino, and he was awesome. He kept checking up on us making sure we were okay. The atmosphere here is pretty cool, a good place to relax and drink with friends while grubbing on seafood.

I used to work no more than 3yrs ago. I used to eat here every couple months. Yet I have somebody that works there now trying to tell me how things were 3yrs ago. He says he never saw me even though I remember him and remember the original name of restaurant before they changed the name. They had great prices back when I worked. Fries came with a lot of your food. They have changed every thing and even let the severs watch the warrior games instead of actually checking on the customers. They take the order, but other severs check back on you. This is probably MORE OF AN UPSCALE RESTAURANT now. Eat if you prefer this kind service but Ill stick with my usual places in San Leandro and San Jose.

When I say I LOVE this place! I LOVE THIS PLACE! I found Backyard Bayou and decided to try it because I love Cajun food...I ordered but the communication was messed up and i recieved the wrong order. When i returned to the location the MANAGER and ALL the employees were sooooo nice and professional about the situation and fixed my order for me!!!! Having being in customer service for over 10 years I rarely find restaurants with exceptional customer service. I would have wrote this review sooner but I had to dig into the amazing food!!!! If you are ever in Union City/Bay Area and enjoy sea/cajun food. I recommend this place 100 times over. Thanks again!!!!

Im so jealous that we dont have one of these in NC! This restaurant provided a unique dining experience. Tables are covered in butcher paper and your seafood is brought to you in a bag. The marinade/seasoning is spot on perfection. Make sure to try there house seasoning. Its the most popular choice for a reason. I tried crawfish for the first time at this restaurant and our waiter was wonderful enough to teach me how to eat it. He also allowed me to try one before I committed to buying a pound of crawfish. Also try the lobster mac n cheese. You wont regret it.
