While nearby Fremont has a gazillion South Indian restaurants, Union City barely has any so seeing Akshaya in the neighborhood was a pleasant surprise. To cater to the many North Indian and Afghani customers in the area, they also seem to have included some popular North Indian dishes as well as Hyderabadi and Andhra dishes. The variety of their menu is very impressive going from bland idlys to spicy dum biryanis. I tried their dum biryani and found it to be spicy and flavorful and is in ample quantity. Wont be enough for two but more than enough for one. More than the food what I loved is the attention the hostess and the staff paid to me. They were very helpful in answering questions about food, inquiring about what they can do better, etc. Im very glad Akshaya is now in our backyard in UC. I wish them success and continued stay (so I dont have to drive to Fremont every time I want Idly or Dosa).

Visited the place for quick dinner. Ordered for Mutton Biryani, Gobi manchurian and Uthappam (this wasnt in menu but they made it on request). Gobi Manchurian was extra salty. But once notified the staffs immediately apologized and replaced it with another item even though we were hesitant for a replacement. The hosts were pretty nice and considerate. Biryani tasted good. Although bit oily but again, you cant have a less oily Biryani :-D Uthapam was good too. The staffs were friendly. Music(Indian movie) was good and not so loud. Utensils were not very clean but were immediately replaced on pointing out. Overall a fine choice for dinner.

They are doing a soft opening now with a limited menu. This is mostly a south Indian restaurant with some popular north Indian dishes. The food was very tasty, though a bit too spicy for my tastes. Keep that in mind when ordering. The server was trying to be helpful, but have a long way to go (it is early after all). Free tea and a complimentary appetizer. I think this is a great addition to the area.

Fair prices, generous portions, friendly staff, prompt service. Nice selection of North and South dishes. Flavors were great, could have been a bit spicier. Curries came with rice, most other places charge extra. Complementary chai. Waitress gave us coupon for next visit. This will be our regular Indian restaurant now, when we arent going to the Thai restaurant next door.

Bad food and even worse service. I had ordered Chicken 65 (takeout). Chicken was badly charred and was inedible. When I called them back to complain about the food, the Manager refused to come to the phone and arrogantly asked his staff to offer me a refund. Not going back to this place ever!

I ordered chicken tandoori, Navratan korma . Too much color added in tandoori. Taste was also not good. Navratan korma was too sweet. Dont waste your money. Please go to some other nice restaurant.

This place is a cozy family owned Indian restaurant and the food is amazing! This is real good Indian food. The service is fast and the staff is sweet. You will want to come back over and over.
