It was the 3rd time we came to this location in last 3 months, and it was the 2nd time we came to this location within last 4 weeks. We do love Korean BBQ so much and we would be willing to come to this location from Irvine (they do have another location in Tustin but that place has the poor customer service and I would not want to go back. That is another story for anther time). However, this time, the wait was very short since it was the Sunday 5pm before the rush hour. However, we were seated in the side area (not the main dining area) and immediately my wife disliked it. I did not realize how bad it could be until later time. It is like out of sigh and out of mind. Since it is in a "remote" location with 6-7 tables, the waiter was either 1) too busy at the other tables in the main dining area, or 2) she was sick (I could hear few time she was sneezing); or 3) just like what I said.. Out of sigh is out of mind. We had to keep asking her to change the grill rather than she changed it automatically by checking out on us. food came out very slow and missing order, but that most likely, and hopefully, that was not her issue, since it could be the kitchen thing. I learned it from this experience. Next time, if they try to seat us on that side area, I would respectfully to request them NOT to do that. That area is just bad in my mind and it is like some extension of the main dining area

First time there, pretty good food and nice price. The waiters were nice but we had an issue with the hostess. I knew theres a long waiting so we when there at 4:30pm (Party of two). There were 4-5 groups ahead of us but luckily we were offered the patio. When we got there, we didnt want to sit there because it was hot and it gets hotter when you start a bbq. When we told her, she said "Its not too hot!" with this attitude. And she just turned and walked back to the front. When we came back to the front, the manager told us to put our name on the waiting list. So I was going to give my name (same hostess), she said she doesnt need it. So we were waiting... and other parties were called, and we were skipped (two party). I went up to the front asked her since she didnt know my name, how can she call us. She told another hostess, " They didnt want the patio". Again this look of unwelcome attitude!! After a few chat, they offered us a table near by which was available for all along. At all time I was being very nice because I didnt want to spoil my dinner with a date. After, I was checking on Gens reviews and read similar instance. Just make sure you put your name down!!

Price is very decent for what they offer, most other KBBQ would charge more. I believe they offset their costs by offering smaller portions at a time, making you wait more often for food, so ultimately eating a lot less before the full feeling comes around. In the beginning it is quite annoying since, depending on whats ordered, you could literally only get to eat one small piece of meat before having to wait another 5 min or so to get the next round. Also seems their default response is: "your order is coming soon" when its busy. Our waitress didnt realize she hasnt taken our order and weve been without food, even all the side dishes were finished off, for like 10min, and gave us that response. Well worth it since she felt guilty about it and we started getting triple portions of meat in all subsequent orders. Anyway, if youre not trying stuff your face as much as possible as fast as possible, its a pretty good KBBQ place.

Although we have a number of KBBQ spots in the South Bay, majority of them are pretty run down old, dirty, and doesnt really have fresh meats. Gen KBBQ is the newest AYCE KBBQ restaurant and currently my favorite in the area. I really like this location. Its not too far from home, spanking new, and really spacious. Simple menu. Lunch is $15, dinner is $20. I also like that they take orders on the iPad. Makes it quicker and more efficient. The wait to get meats is pretty quick as well. On my recent visit, everything was great in terms of food. The only thing was lacking was service. I wish our server was more attentive. No service was given and kept forgetting everything we requested. We had to ask 3 times for our soju. My favorite meats were: bone-in short rib, pork cheek, brisket, garlic pork belly, and the wine pork belly. Oh, and the shrimp! They offer Happy Hour on drinks after 9:30PM til close.

The food is decent, and the price isnt bad. But the service is horrible. I went as a party of 7 for my friends birthday. Now i understand 7 people can be alot to handle, and there were other people in the restaurant but we were only visited 5 times in our 2 hour stay. Once to get our orders, the second time to deliver our orders (which took 30 minutes), a 3rd time to give us the food they forgot to give (which by the way we were only given 2 of the 4 items we ordered), a 4th time to correct their mistake, and finally to give us our bill. We got one round of food, in the 2 hours we were there,Every time we asked for help, it felt like we were an inconvenience the way they were acting and responding. I made a yelp account just to tell everyone how bad this place is

$15 for ayce kbbq for lunch with tobs of options is a great deal, but wheres the dang button to call for service!? The AYCE lunch menu here has lots of options from the typical brisket and bulgogi to many different kinds of marinated pork belly and chicken, but is missing the quintessential kalbi (you do get the scrap cut of kalbi with no bones but it has a lot of fat). The servers range from super nice to I-cant-wait-to-go-home and the food either comes out immediately or the server completely forgot and had to be re-requested. This place could definitely use a call server button that is typically provided at other KBBQ restaurants, or up the quality of some of their servers. But again at $15 AYCE, Id definitely come back despite the lackluster service.

Don’t be fooled by their super hip vibe, Gen is actually all about the food. At this all you can eat KBBQ, you get to choose four items at a time and after you have consumed about 3/4 of your meal, you can order four more items until your party starts loosening their belts. They also provide the basic banchans, salad with delicious dressing, and rice upon request. The meat quality is decent and there are plenty of choices to keep everyone happy. Their marinades are thicker than most KBBQs; which makes it harder to tell when the meat is ready, but it makes it oh-so-much more flavorful. Also all weekend long is the dinner price, but I would come here at lunch time anyways because the normal dinner wait time is at least an hour.

We go here at least once a month. Always packed on the weekends and can get hectic on week nights. Lunch is always best time to come, they have around 4 items less than dinner menu. You wont be missing those particular dishes, menu is long. All servers & their assistances are pretty fast at bringing you what you need, grill changes are swift so you dont get a chance to taste any of that burnt meat stuck to the grill. Best to seat 4 adults per grill with 2 kids, food distribution much better. For groups of 6 adults: grills arent large enough so youll be dying for the food to cook faster, 2 persons cooking is what I suggest for this group. Cons: Their floors can get slippery so watch your steps.
