I will first start with a positive, the service was casual and attentive. The rest, Im afraid, is about the poor quality of food. I am a first-generation born in America Italian. I make nearly yearly trips to visit family in Tuscany, Italy. Several members of my family are professional chefs, in the US and in Italy. I know Italian food, northern and southern. This little restaurant needs some help. I ordered the minestrone and the polenta appetizer. First, the minestrone had full size penne that I could tell upon first glance was over cooked. The pasta was completely bloated and falling apart. The ingredients in the soup seemed to be carrots and pasta- this might have been poor scooping. However, the minestrone was made with a tomato base that was akin to Campbells tomato soup, yikes. (Minestrone is a stock based soup. And minestrone does not rhyme with "pony" fyi) After struggling through this, I hoped the polenta would be better. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The polenta was cold, which they tried to remedy with a super hot sauce. The sauce tasted the same as the minestrone. I can only assume that they used the same base for this. It was all so uninspired, the food had no soul. This is NOT a replacement for Roberto. I know that restaurants will do fusions and new spins on old ideas, but quality is quality. I feel that, at the very least, an Italian restaurant should have a good sauce. My friend ate two bites of her cannelloni and refused to take it home. I have never seen her not finish a meal. She was too kind to utter any poor word in the restaurant, saving all of her comments for the car. Trattoria, please reconsider your recipes and make Italians proud. Thank you.

Came here with a reservation for 7 people at 7PM on a Saturday. We arrived at the reservation time, and our table was ready. Disclaimer - Ive been coming here for a long time, with family members coming here since they started up, so take my review with a grain of freshly crushed black pepper. The service - Consistently awesome! Although your table and meal will have a primary server, the other staff will check the other tables to make sure drinks are not nearing empty. I definitely appreciate that. They know the menu, and they show genuine passion for the food (listen to them describe the specials some time!) The food - Delicious. $16 for the Chicken "Parm" as I call it. 2 giant pieces of breaded chicken, with the usual sauce and.. well.. Parmesan. It isnt the most beautiful thing on the menu, but it doesnt stay on the plate for very long. Desserts are made in-house still. Dont be afraid to special order, or ask a silly question. Dont want your bread spicy? Well, mention no spice, just to be safe. They wont laugh at you. Seriously, they know the menu, so ask any questions you have. I like the ambiance. I see coming here as a social experience. If you want to be placed in a cubby where the rest of civilization doesnt exist, go to Olive Garden and get yourself a 7" Privacy Booth. Come to Trattoria Cattaneo, talk to the folks around you. Laugh when the owner starts making jokes or shaking your hand. They are open for lunch as well. If you want to dip your toes in before dining in the mosh pit (kidding, the music is quiet) stop here for a weekday lunch! The food is still spectacular, and the restaurant will be fairly empty.

This is our second trip to Trattoria Cattaneo. The first time we went there, we werent able to get a table because it was too crowded. We ordered take out and the food was delicious so we told ourselves well come again when we are in town. This time, we made reservations and scored a table for dinner. The place is a cozy eatery. Looking around, you see customers and wait staff people laughing and talking. Many customers seem to know each other and the restaurant owner seems to know almost all of them. It was nice to see him making the rounds to greet and talk to everyone. We ordered the appetizer on the evening special list: crostini with mascarpone cheese, prosciutto, apricot and balsamic reduction. It was DELICIOUS. I could have ordered another plate and have it as dinner. We ordered pasta carbonara, penne with bolognese, and arugula salad. The salad was well balanced with beets and feta. The penne was cooked to al dente. The sauce was good but too salty for my taste. The carbonara was the one flat note for dinner. It had copious amount of pancetta and the dish was way too salty for me so none of the other flavors came through. It is easily made up by the rest of the meal and the customer service. Our wait staff was attentive and came by often to make sure everything is good. As we were leaving, he came to say thank you and good night. The owner also came out after we walked out the door to say "Good night, thank you for coming". The is one restaurant we will always come to when we are in town.

WOW! Amazing food, generous portions too! The service is attentive and personable - they treat you like their favorite relative! Husband and wife team - Riccardo and Julie - she makes everything, from the sauces to the meatballs, and he serves, ciao bella! Things that Ive had and will have again: Tapanade - served w/their bread (amazing) Salmon (massive slab, perfectly cooked) Meatball with marinara (heaven!) Calamari w/aioli & lemon (light & crisp) Cesar salad (had mine w/anchovies) Fettuccine carbonara (absolutely delicious) Tirami Su (took it home - I was way too full!) The house Chianti is delicious and the wine list is exceptional. We had their best Pinot Noir recently and it was worth every penny. Go, eat, youll have a wonderful meal!

I have had several entrees and tasted from other diners plates. The food is very good and they work to please you. You get a generous glass of wine not just a big fancy glass with a 3 oz pour. The ambiance is friendly and can get loud because of the laughter and conversation. Even though the restaurant is small they have a bar where you can sit and catch the sports du jour, although it will definitely be football if there is a game because the owners twin boys play for teams in Texas. Most definitely my pick for best local, family owned restaurant!

If you like old-school Italian with hearty, fresh portions, this is the place for you. Loved the veal cannelloni. My girlfriend and I were there for her birthday, and when our waiter, Robert, got wind of that, he took the initiative to put a candle on her dessert and sang "Happy Birthday." The service was impeccable. Definitely a new favorite for our jaunts to Santa Rosa.

This is the best neighborhood restaurant I have found in Santa Rosa. Warm, friendly service; simple but delicious, comfort-food; and amazing prices. Unless you are the type of person that is only happy if a meal for two costs $150 and comes with foam on everything and lots of pretension, you will love this place!
