6:00 OClock Reservation before the Theater and we had to hustle to make it out on time for 8:00 curtain. Wait staff over taxed, loud, food uninspired and medium quality - SO MANY HIGH QUALITY ALTERNATIVES within the area! Atmosphere - Not sure why its often referred to as romantic. Styling more is Alpine Suisse than Parisian or Provencial with cowbells and timbers. Seating is downright uncomfortable - Swiss chairs with straight backs and hard seats. The restaurant noise level was pretty high. Waiter twice had difficulty hearing my order and I am told I have a booming voice. Somewhat crowded Bistro style seating, but with larger than necessary tables, intimate conversations are not possible. Service - Waitstaff was scrambling, but in the end not really that attentive. We had really long gaps of time with no service. A really nice hostess seated us, but we waited more than 15 minutes to order a first beverage - a great 2003 vintage Burgundy which was a high point of the dinner. Chef/ GM came out and asked how were were doing, but we had only just ordered wine and were waiting on our apps, salad, entrees. Food - In general, very uninspired, tired and just OK execution. Crab cakes were good as was the Pate appetizer. Tableside Ceasar salad was a bit dramatic, but was entirely inedible. Sharp with so much garlic and vinegar that it spoiled much of the rest of the meal. Steak sat under the heat lamp too long and was smothered in a gooey, heavy sauce that did not hide the mediocre meat. Sweetbreads were OK, but had to wait for a redo because waiter did not hear my request for no cream. When fresh batch came out it had some good flavor and the sweetbreads were not overcooked. Sliced mushrooms, sliced olives Madeira and Sweetbreads. Would have been way better if the mushrooms and olives did not come from a can. Value - quite expensive for quality of flavors, ambiance. Im really surprised that this restaurant has survived. There were not a lot of young diners and maybe they focus on an older crowd. It really seems like an anachronism and does not come close to the quality of food that can be had all around the county. Would not recommend and would not return.

Totally terrible!!!The worst meal I have ever had out. It was Mothers day also which is so much worse. My Mother wanted a steak so its been years since we have been here. So I thought its been here this long it Should be good. No!! It was good 10 years but not anymore!! The bread was hard, the escargot was bad,. no butter and garlic .Really??? Had a salad that was wilted and tasted sour. Soup was edible but maybe a half cup. Crab cake tasted like mushy bread that had zero taste. Moms steak was suppose to be med,it was cold and very raw. What a total mess. They have to know how bad it is. This is about making a buck and taking peoples money. Im from Sonoma county and eat at higher end places too. This place is the is the bottom. I will tell everyone I know and people who ask me where to go. This place is a F.

My wife and I fell in love with La Gare in 1991. We returned often until we moved to Utah in 1995. Every year we wanted to return to La Gare for our anniversary dinner, but knew that wasnt possible due to the distance. In 2012 we drove to California (13 hours) just to go to La Gare for dinner, 2 nights in a row. We did it again in 2014 (3 nights in a row). And plan to go again in 2016. The food, service, staff and atmosphere are all just as good as before. My wife and I love La Gare enough to travel from Utah for multiple nights of dinner. Our favorites are the veal dishes. But their Quiche Lorraine is heavenly.

I have heard so much about this place that I was really disappointed when I went there and got no service. I was there early and it was not crowded, but two parties (large) that came in after I did got served before a waiter even asked me if I wanted a drink. I will not go back. I expected a restaurant like this one to be able to treat single women with respect, but instead the wait staff just ignored me. It is hard enough to eat out alone, folks, let alone to be treated like you are invisible.

Never been here before but I am going back. Had the Filet de Boeuf Wellington, a great glass of wine the staff recommended, and soup de jour. It was not only a good meal, but a great place to have a super-quality and quiet meal with my family. The atmosphere is smooth and calm, and staff not only know the menu, but they can tell you which part of France the dishes come from, and some have a history behind them, and they can tell you all about it. Can be expensive, but it’s a great meal.

Consistent, high quality service & food. Have dined at La Gare for years. Always had great food and excellent service. Our home cooking is so wonderful, we rarely dine out. La Gare is one of the few restaurants that we continue to frequent. When a family member was diagnosed gluten intolerant, we were thrilled to discover La Gare also has an extensive GF menu, including soup and GF croutons for the Caesar salad. Definitely recommend it.

The flavors were correct however everything on my plate was over cooked. I had salmon with rice carrots and green beans. The salmon didnt flake.... Not sure why and my veggies and rice were mushy. The house salad had way to much dressing. Good dressing but it was soaked.

Ate here so many times on date night or a birthday celebration. Very busy place and the food is scrumptious. Pleasant ambiance and very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable staff with the menus, plus local events and suggestions of place to visit, etc.

Been going here for a decade, and my family almost a decade before that. Its a good place for a romantic dinner. The Chateaubriand is amazing along with the bearnaise sauce. I highly recommend this, it is served for two or more.

Not too crowded on a Tuesday evening but the mushroom soup was excellent, good salad and excellent entrees, both my schnitzel and my wifes mahi-mahi were very well cooked in excellent sauces. And the service was just fine too.

Absolutely delicious, classic French cuisine cooked to perfection (not to mention incredibly fresh and affordable). This, along with a dream-team waitstaff and a pleasant, relaxing ambience made for a phenomenal experience.

By far the most consistently perfect food and ambiance in northern California. We have been bringing friends and family for 28 years , Jacque and her staff have continued excellence for all that time.

The food and service were both very good. I had the prawns and my husband had the special. The price is reasonable when you consider you get noth soup and salad! Support your local restaurants!
