Absolutely fabulous!! The service was impeccable, never had to ask for anything...their eye for detail in all respects, and their subtle yet high level of professionalism which is rare these days truly enhanced the experience. We were two, I had the duck leg confit, my dinner guest coq au vin with brussel sprouts and sauteed spinach for sides... so wonderful. The escargots (6) for our starter, which we shared... worked out well for us, so wonderful...flavorful, tender...and yes, plenty of bread for the garlic butter.. For dessert, we had the apple tart tatin...again we shared this, which also was perfect for us. It was also our Friday night "date night"...had a such a great time as did the couple next to us. The prices are very reasonable and the noise level is very normal and easy to have pleasant dinner conversation...we lingered afterwards to prolong the experience, and though it was towards the end of their service, we were not rushed or pressured to leave. I lived in Paris for seven years back in the 80s and 90s...and I can truly say that Mathilde takes me back.

This is my fav. go to French restaurant in San Francisco. They have impeccible service each time with lots of attention to diners. I enjoy the lovely rustic ambiance, located just south of market, although in a fairly sketchy neighborhood, this charming little place brighten up the area. With many new restaurants opening nearby, this area is definitely up and coming. The food: French Onion Soup. This was the restaurant that converted me to french onion soup. I used to hate all things onion until I had this french onion soup. Perfect amount of cheese and bread and broth, and not too salty (which most places do) ~ The filet mignon is always good here. The coq au vin here is one of the best. I love the duck confit as well. They are usually a part of the dine about town, and I highly recommend checking them out then, but overall, the prices are very reasonable for the food and service you get.

If you blink you might miss this little gem tucked in behind sidewalk trees. But walk in and youll encounter wall-to-wall French decor, a towering ceiling with a huge chandelier, and a covered courtyard in back for semi-outdoor dining. The French owners and the rest of the staff are outstanding and take the time to answer any of your questions in detail or to work with you on recommendations. Every dish Ive tried is excellent. The pasta dishes are my personal favorite--these guys make pasta on par with the best Italian restaurants and pair it with delectable fall-off-the-bone meats. The pan-seared Salmon is really good too. Dont come here in a hurry--working through a three-course meal can go on for hours in typical French fashion. Rather than a quiet atmosphere, youll typically see a more lively (loud) crowd in here with upbeat (sometimes even Reggae) music in the air.

Ive been hesitant to dine at Le Charm until I saw it on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and its good reviews. Its approaching the shady part of 5th street. But the interior of the restaurant is very nice and inviting. There is an inner dining room, with tables in the area by the bar. There are a couple of two-seaters by the window that are away from the other tables. This is nice for more seclusion. Service is really good here and the food comes promptly. The mussel appetizer was really good - flavorful and rich sauce and portion size was great for an appetizer. The coq au vin was pretty good as well, though the flavor of the sauce was more on the wine side of the spectrum. The meat was tender but still firm. I wish there was a little more flavor penetrated into the meat. Didnt have room for dessert, sadly.

Ive been to Le Charm twice now. Both times were the best dining experiences of my life! The servers Ive had each time, Matilda and David, were Parisian, were friendly, helped me practice my rusty French, and knew exactly when to check on us, bring out the next course and were experts in the menu and even the cooking methods involved. The owner, Lina, is a very sweet woman who always has a great recommendation on what to try on the menu, or which dish is particularly good during a particular season. And of course, the food is the best French cuisine Ive had, and that includes the restaurants Ive enjoyed in Nice, Antibes, Cannes and Paris. The best part is, with a prix fix 3 course at $27 and reasonable entrees I can afford to keep coming back! Cest parfait!

Two girlfriends and I came here during Dine About Town. They had the DAT menu as well as their regular prix fixe and we ordered off of both. The portions were generous, the environment was adorable, and the service kind and helpful, but the food itself was not anything to write home about, especially for the price. For appetizers, we had the beet salad (3 stars), prawn ravioli (5 stars), mussels (5 stars; they gave enough to share amongst 3). For entrees, we had the fish (4 stars) and the duck confit (did not try). For dessert, we had the cream puffs (did not try), creme brulee (5 stars; humongous), and the chocolate cake (3 stars; good but nothing special).

The best filet mignon Ive ever had was here at Le Charm! What to Get Here (for emphasis): Filent Mignon For some reason, the filet mignon managed to be slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly tender and medium rare within. (SH and I are still perplexed at how this was done.) Without doubt, a divine intervention - a moment where the stars aligned perfectly. The rest of what we ordered was less stellar. Coq au vin was too salty for my palette. Appetizers and desserts were good but nothing to write home about. But I forgive you Le Charm, the filet mignon makes up for everything.

Reasonably priced typical French bistro fare with outstanding service from French speaking servers. Ambience is on the romantic side Charcuterie is predominately pate with two cured meats. Escargot has a great sauce for dipping bread. Duck leg confit has perfectly crispy skin and came right off the bone. I enjoyed the bits of sweet red bell pepper in the salad. Try the banana bread pudding. Brussels sprouts side was a bit oversalted.

Best meal of my trip to SF in November (out of 8 Restaurants near the convention center). Warm figs and goat cheese on a salad of greens to die for! Melt-in-your-mouth pork (brined for hours) over a bed of roasted chestnuts and purple cabbage. Fabu! And service was splendid from the moment we arrived all the way through the meal. My friend had been there before and she recommended it. I will return!

Most excellent French: friendly and professional stuff, good ambience, etc. We had duck confit (excellent) and coq au vin (out of this world awesome). Their chicken liver salad and bone marrow were also amazing. Finally, dessert - we had one that we never saw before (which is hard!). It had creme anglaise and merengue - and was amazing. This may well become our fave French in SF...

Un vrai restaurant français qui na rien à envier à de bonnes adresses Parisiennes. On retrouve les mêmes goûts, les mêmes recettes sans adaptation hasardeuse aux goûts des américains.
