This restaurant was astonishingly bad. I checked the reviews just before and saw 4.4 stars so I expected a "good" to "great" burger. I really cant believe that anyone would rate this place positively. Here were the items we ordered: Hatch Burger - first off the burger came out "wet", almost like they cooked it on a Foreman Grill or something. The chilis on the burger were cold and looked as if they came out of a can. Overall, one of the worst burgers I have ever eaten, and at 14 dollars this was a travesty. Short Rib Fries - the short rib on top of the fries was dry, and the gravy that was poured on top was thanksgiving gravy. If you are going to do braised short rib fries, please pair it with a sauce that matches. Wings - pretty much the only edible item, but they were average at best. Overall, I am surprised that this place could somehow achieve a 4.4 rating. Either there are fake ratings on here bumping up the average, or the people of Santa Monica have terrible taste. Update: I finally came back here after seeing the response to my original review. Overall, I was impressed with the service and quality of the food. Here is what I tried: House-made Pickles and Beets - Im a sucker for pickled vegetables so these were right up my alley. Nice to snack on before a meal. Short Rib Fries - this was the restaurants shot at redemption. I was initially hesitant to order this again, but my fears quickly dicipated as I took a bite of the savory short rib with the perfectly crispy fries. The gravy brought the dish together nicely as well. Manly Burger - the manager, Josh, explained this is one of their signature burgers. The burger had a perfect combination of ingredients, including fried onions, bacon, and quality beef. I was throroughly impressed, and would certainly come back for this item. UFO - at this point I was totally full and could not even think about dessert. Josh, however, insisted that I try the UFO, which is a deep fried oatmeal cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, and drizzled with caramel. Who could not enjoy those three ingredients? When combined they form a dessert that you must try, even if you are totally full from the earlier dishes. Overall, I was really impressed with Umami burger, and will be returning soon. The staff and manager were amazing and created such a welcoming environment. Obviously the food add to that environment, which Ive already discussed at exhaustion.

Despite the food being delicious, they lose one star for being both ridiculously overpriced and for having very poor and inattentive table service. I got the Impossible Burger when I went, which is made of plant-based products and is 100% vegan. It was incredible, you definitely would not have a single clue that it was a vegan burger unless told, and was very filling. The cheese was melted perfectly, the and the pickles had a very nice crunch that complemented the soft patties. I loved it. The food here is excellent. In addition, the interior of the restaurant is beautiful with its minimalist, contemporary aesthetics. Thats where the good ends for me. The burgers dont have any sides that are included, you have to pay extra. Which means youre paying almost $20 JUST for the burger. The stuff here is woefully overpriced for something that has the taste and quality of a shake shack burger. The other main issue I had was the lackluster service. It took several minutes to have the host come over and seat us, and ordering and waiting for the check was all very slow as well, which put a damper on an otherwise delicious meal. All in all, Umami Burger has yummy and filling food in a lovely environment that is woefully overpriced and has lackluster service.

Let me start off by saying, I am a huge fan of truffle anything, so this post may be a little biased. Umami is always really busy and the wait may be long. Since I came here with only one other person, we were able to grab seats at the bar and have our orders taken right away. The bartender was really friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and giving suggestions. We ended up ordering tempura onion rings and truffled thin fries as starters. For the burger, I had the Truffle Burger, which is basically truffle on truffle. Umami offers 3 different dipping sauces: jalapeno ranch, house ketchup, and garlic aioli. We didnt know which to choose, so the bartender was really nice and said that he would just get us all three. When my burger came out, I couldnt help myself but snap a couple photos of the beautifully constructed burger. My burger was heavenly delicious. The bun was so soft. The truffle was what made this burger. However, the only thing I didnt enjoy about my burger was the slightly dry beef patty. Yes, the food is on the pricer end, but I definitely would recommend this place to just to have the experience of trying an Umami burger.

I had the pleasure of eating here a few days ago with some friends before we set out to catch some Pokemon at the Pier. Ive been told a lot about Umami Burger over the years but had never been until now. The service was top notch. Drinks were promptly refilled and our server was on top of checking if everything was okay. We were seated very quickly and food came out in a decent amount of time. I ordered the Truffle Burger at a medium-rare temperature. While it was cooked perfectly, I felt that the flavor was extremely lacking. I felt that the only thing providing flavor was the cheese, which was causing my top bun to slide around due to its melted and slightly greasy state. We also ordered onion rings, truffle fries, sweet potato fries, and chicken wings. All which were delicious. There was one side dish however that was not so great: The brussel sprouts. They were completely burnt. I honestly dont know how they were allowed to leave the kitchen. Overall, the service was fantastic, however the food did not live up to the hype, nor the price tag.

After a long day of shopping at Fred Segal and Santa Monica Promenade, I was hungry with my friends so we decided to stop by Umami Burger. The atmosphere is "chill" , very laid back but still has a crisp feel to it. The restaurant is fairly small and extremely popular, so we had to wait 15 minutes around lunch time. I had the Umami Truffle Burger Poutine style at Umami Burger because I didnt want to have any bread. Umami Burgers taste more heavier than other burgers and even though the size looks small, it should fill you up. Parking is free in this plaza, so I like to park there, eat, shop and then come back because all the other areas, you will have to pay for parking~

After reading the reviews I was really excited to try it. We got seated really fast and the waiter was great. We ordered truffle fries and I ordered the umami burger. To be honest everything was great but I am a die hard fan of in-n-out and was expecting umami burger to be more delicious since the price is pretty high for a burger. I wasnt a big fan of the fries - they were too thin and deep fried and a bit over salted. The umami burger had a weird sour BBQ taste to it, but I could see how people would find it delicious. It just wasnt my jam. Overall I am giving it 4 stars because I dont think its worth the price.
