Dont order any special occasion cakes from this Bakery. They are only into getting your money and they do not care about the product they deliver on. Their management is rude and bullish with their customers. We ordered a wedding cake and provided pictures and fabric swatch. They provided wrong cake! Wrong colors. They only care about how cake tastes not how it looks. If you are into any type of special theme cakes, as most weddings are about, dont bother considering this bakery. We ordered pink and ivory flowers they provided orange and yellow. Clashed with all our wedding colors. They took the $735 and told us thats what happens with custom cakes. Bottom line, if you care about what the cake looks like, Run Forest Run! from the Buttery! Find a reputable Bakery instead!

Do you want to pay twice as much for a mediocre, but well-presented cake? This is the place for you. People rave about the Buttery, but frankly, Ive had better cakes from Safeway(custom ones, not display) and from box mixes. Most of their stuff looks amazing, but that usually changes once you actually go to eat it. I couldnt recommend any of the dozen cakes Ive had from here over the years, mostly due to their bland flavor and often dry texture. I suspect a mixture of either not using enough oil, sugar, or eggs, or all three. And its consistently poor, not just a one-time thing. There are a bevy other better bakeries around, but if you want to impress your friends with superficial qualities like prestige and cost instead of flavor and texture, this is your place.

I ordered a cake for a 70th Birthday party 10 days before the event. I prepaid so I could pick it up just before the party. On Saturday night, the day before the event, they called to tell me they couldnt make the cake. They had not ordered enough ingredients to make that particular cake. We wnet over all the cakes they could make, and settled on something similar. Then they called back to say they couldnt make the cake big enough to serve the number of people I had. Instead they threw in a small chocolate cake. I was stuck. I had to take their offer. But never again. If you wnat the right cake, go to Gayles bakery in Capitola. They have never let me down, the cakes are delicious, beautiful, fresh, and the right size.

The buttery is yummy but the service is not so good. The people are nice but Ive been there three times and every time they have messed up an order. 1st I ordered a salad they gave me a sandwich, 2nd I ordered no fruit and they put fruit in my granola - these issues are not so bad unless I have a severe allergy to one of the ingredients but this last time I ordered vegetarian eggs Benedict and I got ham! This is getting pretty ridiculous, I called them up and no manager was there to assist and I dont think the girl on the other line cared. Im letting this go today and just never going back. There are way too many different great options in Santa cruz to deal with this.

The Buttery is a neighborhood gem. Best known for their cakes for weddings, birthdays, special occasions. (Their carrot cake frosting is like no other.) Their Golden Sheaf breads, pastries, breakfast and lunch offerings are all really terrific, so expect to take a number, cuz the place is packed from 7am til late afternoon. Lively ambience, cute not corporate, and just across the street from another locals favorite: Shoppers Corner Market. Winner of Best Bakery by the Good Times and the Santa Cruz Weekly. They have super salads, but be ready to put your diet aside. Think Chicken Pot Pie, Clam Chowder, Roasted Red Pepper sandwiches on Ciabatta or Franchese....OMG.

If you want to pay $15 for breakfast, have no place to sit and eat your food, get yelled at by the waitstaff that you can go eat outside where its 48 degrees.....and your $15 meal goes cold before you can eat it....go here. This place definitely needs to train their staff to be friendly and more polite and come up with a different layout or solution for their customers. There are multiple complaints in several past reviews regarding no seats and rudeness of waitstaff...havent seen any improvements .....likely to be my last time to this place.

The buttery just did our wedding cake and it was beautiful Jill the design specialist was very nice and sat down with me and my family to help make the perfect cake... she did a fantastic job, of just getting an idea of what we would like then combining different cake images she had to make a cake that was perfect for our special day! The guests all raved about the cake, and we couldnt be more happy. Thanks Jill and everyone at buttery for making it so special!

Food and price are great but atmosphere is sub par. It can get really crowded and uncomfortable even when you are sitting at a table. Also their plates are tiny! We had eggs Benedict (which was great) but it filled out plates to the brim making it difficult to eat without spilling food with each scoop. I would recommend going to harbor cafe or Beach boardwalk cafe for a sit down breakfast. This place would be great for takeout.

If you like crowded, noisy cafes, featuring counter-service and mostly grill food, and meeting new people in a diner atmosphere with inadequate seating space and arrangements, this is your place! Im more of a quiet, leisurely breakfast-with-friends kind of guy myself, but we had a great time and met some interesting folks here. I dont know if its ALWAYS this busy, but it was hoppin!

Words cant express the amazing experience my wife and I had. Darcy was fantastic. James provided top-flight service. Ingrid was amazing. Michael is a class act and I admire his vision and leadership very much. You wont find a friendly environment. The food is exceptionally delicious. Worth the wait and if you dont experience The Buttery you are missing something very special.

I actually have never stepped foot at this place but I have ordered their cakes! Do try the tiramisu cake because it has so much taste and richness. I loved it! I also ordered their fruit tart cake which looked extremely beautiful! I didnt even want to eat it because it looked so good. Its a wonderful place to get your cake on and the customer service is great!

The cakes are typically not very good but I have had a few that taste great. The breads are good and the coffee is pretty good also. The place is very busy and I wish they thought out their remodel a litte better since it is a nightmare to walk around in the place. Overall it is as good as we have on the west side. It is certianly way better than Emilys.

Es un muy buen lugar para desayunar, ya que cuentan con una gran cantidad de productos de pastelería, y el café es muy bueno. También se pueden comprar comidas elaboradas, a pedido.

The food and coffee was great, and the service is friendly, but it was slow and the food came out cold. Plus they missed half the order, which meant an even longer wait for breakfast. This may have been a bad day for the staff, and the food is certainly worth a return visit. But they need to up the service game a couple notches to earn five stars.
