Great lunch and dinner spot!! Especially for...HAPPY HOUR! My girlfriend and I suggested to sit by the bar area to catch their happy hour specials first before sitting at a nearby table. HH begins promptly 5pm-6:30pm during Sundays-Fridays excluding Saturdays. The following HH food menu: $3 appetizers: ikasansai (squid salad), gyoza dumplings, and agedashi tofu. $3 Sushi rolls: spicy tuna, spicy salmon, salmon skin, shrimp tempura hand roll, and vegetarian hand roll. $4 appetizers: shrimp tempura, tuna tataki, spicy tuna popper, and almond chicken. After a couple of attempts and trying everything on the HH menu, your best choices are the ikasansai, agedashi tofu, tuna tataki, spicy tuna popper and almond chicken. The ikasansai is very appealing and tasteful for you squid lovers! Great to share with one other person before making any entree selections on their menu. The tuna tataki is fresh and impeccably delicious! This is only for their HH food menu, but their HH cocktails are to die for! The following HH cocktail menu: -Buy one get one domestic beers -$4 large beers (selected) -1/2 price well cocktail drinks -$5 large hot sake The best choice of cocktail is the Cherry Blossom since they mix it with Effen Black Cherry Vodka. You can taste the hint of cherry flavor in that cocktail! Yum-O! Other drink of choice is their Eastern Kiss. Mixed with the Ty-Ku liqueur. A lot like a marguerita or a lemon drop but an asian twist cocktail! Mmm...youll definitely enjoy your drink! As for their regular menu, love most of their items. Hard to pick and choose my most favorite but Ill cut it down to whats a good recommendation. If youre interested starting off with something small before your entree, try their spicy tuna salad or their sweet potato fries. Its scrumptious!! Easy to share with one other person. Large plate and beautifully decorated. Special rolls, cherry blossom, hot mango roll, honeymoon special and Ninja rolls!! All very enticing!! If youre not into seafood, they also have bulgogi dishes. I had to try it at least once, my goodness....indeed, sure made my stomach satisfied!

We were eager to try a sushi restaurant that was rated so highly on YELP. The sushi rolls and appetizers turned out to be average. The rolls like Crazy Dragon had too many ingredients that all meshed together without a harmonious balance. The Yellowtail Tartar was the favorite with fresh tasting fish and a hint of spiciness from the jalapeno. The Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna was too crispy and dry. The Bento Box with Salmon Teriyaki and Beef Teriyaki looked promising despite a 30 minute wait for it to come out. The beef was too tough and the salmon didn’t taste fresh. Aside from the mediocre food, the cleanliness of the restaurant was not up to par. After drinking all the water, I noticed a white powdered film all around the rim of the glass. We had to flag down the waiter to complain. He was apologetic and offered us a complimentary dessert. He seemed too busy to check up on us so service was less than average. We also ordered a California Roll to go. As we exited the door, one of the members of the party mentioned that the hostess asked if he had paid for the item. I immediately went back into the restaurant to let her know that she needed to polish up on her hostess and customer service skills. She was obviously inexperienced by even asking such a question --- we had just paid for our main meals of rolls that weren’t exactly inexpensive--- why would we walk out without paying for a $5 item? She offered a naïve explanation that she didn’t see the receipt at the desk. I was patient enough to provide a 15 second training that signed credit card receipts may not immediately be taken to the hostess desk. As a result of the lackluster food, dirty glass and poor service, I would have given this a one star but the waiter did try to remedy the dirty glass issue.

This place is fantastic! the best sushi I have eaten in a long time, the lunch time service is quick, our waitress did a great job she had all 4 orders served at the same time ( she brought a assistant to help serve all the orders at once, nice job ) they have not 1 or 2 sushi chefs but 5 and for dinner they up to 7 sushi chefs not including the full staff they have working in the kitchen serving up some of the side dishes ( like rice, soups, salads, drinks, etc.) If you go on Friday or Saturday after 6pm expect a little wait, but even though the place is busy the wait is not very long the service is still purity quick and that really surprised me. The place is very clean & the inside lights are really cool, you really have to see them they add a ambiance to the place witch to me makes it very comfortable and romantic, great place for a date! The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food they serve you. the fish is very fresh, you can not only tell by the aroma but when you taste it you will with out a doubt know its fresh and absolutely delicious!!! This place is out standing I am hooked. If you are on a date I highly recommend the sushi boat it not only impressive but its made for romance as you sit close together to enjoy this master piece with some sake. a little note, I eat sushi at least 5 times a week or more its a big part of my diet and I have tried a lot & a lot of places around the bay area and to me this is well worth the drive and wait if you have one.

On a search for good sushi, yelp lead me to Mizu. I really thought Id like it here but I was disappointed. Service: super slow. We came on a Monday night around 8pm and the restaurant was barely half full. After we ordered, our sushi took more than 30 minutes to arrive. We also had to ask for water re-fill and it was difficult to get the servers attention when we wanted to order more food. Food: I thought the sushi rolls were just okay. We ordered the hot mango roll and sunkissed roll. I didnt particularly enjoyed either of them. We also got the titantic fire and it was the best roll of the three. However, the tempura shrimp in the roll was old and cold. It was chewy and not crispy at all. The tuna tartar was good and came with a quail egg. However, I wish it also came with some wonton pieces as it was too much by itself. The best item for the night was probably the mixed spicy chirashi bowl. It was very flavorful and the sauce was spot on. Lastly, we got the tempura green tea ice cream and it was also a disappointment. The batter tasted bad. We just ended up eating the ice cream inside the batter. With the bad service and mediocre flavor, the price was definitely not worth it. Ill probably give Mizu another chance before writing it off completely. Perhaps the happy hour is worthwhile and will redeem the restaurant.

The success of any mediocre sushi joint relies heavily on the ability to keep its clientele content with alcoholic drinks. What can be said about Miyakes Palo Alto can definitely be applied here. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... well you know how it goes. Strike One: If youre a sushi restaurant receiving 4 or 5 star reviews, you should damn well know how to make rice the proper way. My sushi rice was smooshed with most grains flattened. Sushi 101: learn how to fold your rice properly while cooling it down. Strike Two: The Salmon definitely tasted more than 4 days old. Strike Three: FOOD POISONING! A dozen oyster beauties for $22. Not too shabby but not a blue-light special either. Not only did I get the taste of shell and salt (see Oyster Shuck/Prep 101), but I also got a side of the runs and vomiting from subsequent food poisoning. Please get your oysters from a trusted source next time. Ugh, this venue was certainly not worth the fever and uncontrollable discharges. BEWARE: FOOD POISONING. Id much rather grab sushi from Mitsuwa or Nijiya than eat at this joint.
