One word: lovely. Its essentially a little Italian trattoria taken out of Rome and planted in the middle of Noe Valley. Despite the spacious multi-level floor, Lupa is able to create intimacy due to its warm and low-lit environment. I never, ever finish pasta dishes because they never quite strike the balance between portion size and richness, but my Toretelloni alla Cardinale hit it right on the spot. Loved the addition of peas and prosciutto to creamy pink sauce. Melted smoked mozzarella with mix sautéed mushroom appetizer is a must-try. It is smoky, cheesy, delicate, and umami. The cheese has an amazing saucy texture almost like a burrata. Ive never seen anything of its kind at other Italian places. Take a break from bustling North Beach or SOMAs trendy Italian eateries and come here. Service is impeccable as well.

Great food, good service. Saturday night 7pm reservation for 4 -- sat on time, by the front window. Excellent appetizer (scamorza ai funghi = Melted smoked mozzarella with mix sauteed mushrooms), great gnocchi (a special-of-the-day version), and also tried some of their risotto of the day -- delicious -- and rack of lamb -- tasty. Excellent bottle of wine ($44 though) and great dessert. Very good service, though we were kicked out at 9:30pm, when it was a fair bit of time since we ate & paid, and they said they were a small place and had people waiting (my back was to the rest of the restaurant, I didnt notice), so fair enough.

I dont go out to Italian restaurant much, so when I do I expect something special. The atmosphere isnt much to rave about. The lower section can be a bit cold when the door constantly opens, even with the fire place running. The service is OK, waiter is knowledgeable and keeps a good tab on the tables. However the food is a bit lacking. I feel like I could have made the same dishes at home, maybe not better, but close. Theres plenty of bread, though a bit stale and cold, at least for my batch. In short, not my choice for a date night, maybe for quick get together, or a decent Italian fix.

The food is pretty good. Standard italian fare and good potions. A little pricey for what you get. The service is also not very good. I went there near the end of the night (probably 30 minutes before closing time) and they totally rushed our entire dinner. Also, I definitely felt they were treating us a certain way because we were young and female. I went there again recently and again the service was not very good. I had the wild boar gnocchi which was very good, a little salty, but a good portion. I also had the prosciutto, pear, mascarpone appetizer which was amazing!

Who knew - the best Italian food would NOT be in North Beach. Our favorite restaurant for authentic Italian food in the City. The pappardelle is the best. Terrific service, neighborhood atmosphere. Weve eaten here since it opened. Immediately we knew it would attract a loyal following. Sure enough - anymore, youd best have reservations on weekends to assure youll get a table at peak times. Weve walked in many times w/o reservations and they always do their very best to accommodate. Great food, service, atmosphere - we return again and again.

Im always in the mood for pasta, but I havent found a place that serves up a great meal, at a reasonable price, near my house. Well, I finally have with Lupa. Its a casual dining spot, but the pasta is amazing - perfect for a mid week dinner out. I am a sucker for a good papardelle. They normally make it with a lamb Bolognese, but I saw that they have a wild boar sauce, and it was no problem to swap the sauce. Its one of the best papardelle dishes Ive had (and Ive done my fair share of searching all over the city). Will definitely be back.

I went here over the weekend when I was visiting Noe and I must say that I was very impressed with this Italian restaurant. This place has a great environment and the food is both well prepared and comes in large portions. One of my favorite menu items here was the risotto with mushrooms and Italian sausage. Our waiter was quick to order and quick to deliver the food, and it was nice to park on the street and walk through Noe to get here.

Night started off with average service and above average food. Unfortunately, after receiving our food, the service completely disappeared for the reminder of our meal. 30mins went by after we finished out wine and dinner before our party was forced to wave the wait staff down to bring us our check. I will not be returning, which is a shame, because it is a local spot with glowing reviews. What a disappointment.

Cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant with knowledgeable servers and delicious food. We started with burrata & speck over argula, and then I had an amazing risotto with prosciutto and asparagus (with truffle!) and my wife had her standard, cant-get-enough-of-it lamb bolognese pasta. Great wine list of all Italian wines, our recommended Montalcino was the perfect accompaniment to our meal.

Coming from Europe it was great to see "real" Italian food. This is as good as it gets. You need to take time out and go here. Wine selection was superb as well. I had a pork tenderloin wrapped in pancetta with polenta and creamed spinach. it was amazing. very tender and well cooked pork. Service, food, ambiance, decor, location and patrons all top class! Go!

Quaint little Italian joint in the heart of noe valley. Menu is outstanding - was hard to choose between all of the great options. Definitely a bit of a splurge as everything is doused in truffle oil, but well worth it! Modest decor including a fireplace and open kitchen make for a relaxed and cozy atmosphere.

Fantastic neighborhood Italian restaurant. We ordered the lasagna and wild boar gnocci, and both were excellent. Our waiter was friendly and excited about the menu, and happy to take a couple minutes to make a few recommendations. Well definitely be going back.

Hidden gem with authentic, fresh and handmade pasta. Try the gnocchi, pappardelle, and penne arrabbiata - the last of which sounds simple but quite possibly the best flavor. Friendly service, well-priced and not too casual but not too formal either.

I was late to my reservations, and I got scolded, but they were still nice enough to accomodate me and my friend. The food, although pricy, was excellent! I cant even begin to describe the marriage of flavors in each dish--just go! ;)

This authentic Italian restaurant has, hands down, the best lasagna in the city. I recommend reservations, as its a small restaurant and it fills up very quickly. The servers are wonderful, as is all the food on the menu.

Not mind blowing Italian but it does the trick. Solid pasta dishes in a quaint Noe spot. Decent by the glass wine list if you want to complement your carb-y indulgence. Good dessert standards as well.

Wonderful and friendly Italian staff. They describe everything on the menu if you are unfamiliar with the dishes. The food is authentic and delicious. REMINDS ME OF BEING IN ITALY

Apparently it was very good. Our two entrees came out to $56 after tax and tip. The food was so pretty that the people at the table next to us took pictures of their dishes.

Dont go there expecting vegan food, but the staff is so helpful, they can accommodate some dishes to make them without dairy. The waiters there are absolutely lovely!
