The first time we stumbled across Bullshead, we were sitting in the waiting area for a few minutes awaiting our name to be called when I decided to whip out my phone and check the health score. The less-than-favorable score popped up on my screen, and I suggested we bolt out of there just as the hostess yelled "Shawn, 2? Shawn, 2???" We took our chances. I was actually happy to find this place because I love buffalo burgers, and buffalo burgers seems to be their specialty. And they cook them just right. Theres a small, but adequate salad bar thats often out of an item or two, but it does the job. Weve been back a few more times and seem to gravitate into Bullshead whenever were in the West Portal area. The health score seems to be heading up a bit, so lets hope they can get a bit closer to the 100 side of the scale.

Ah man, sooo good. Almost dont want to review this place so that more people dont find out about it. If youve never had a buffalo burger, this is a great place to try it. The burgers are filling and made with great, fresh ingredients. High quality meats. Ive heard people say that the burgers are a bit under-seasoned, which may be true, but for one thing youve got your own salt/pepper/ketchup/mustard/bbq to enhance your flavor, and for another things you shouldnt have to because the meat is amazing on its own. Get it medium or medium-rare, either the cheese+avocado or the cheese+bacon, and come away feeling completely satisfied.

On the outside this place looks like your average whole, but looks are deceiving. Never judge a book by its cover man, because this place is the spot for burgers. You can try to travel the city and find a better burger place but youd be wasting your time. Choices of Turkey, Beef, Salmon, or Bison burgers third or half pound cooked any way you want it with a variety of options is something i just cant say know to. Staff is friendly, especially the Chefs. Meat is fresh, and is displayed in front of you. When you walk in. Saturday nights, meat lovers look no further.

After a long day of exploring the city and making our way back down the coast, we found BullsHead and I am so thankful we did because we were starving. I dont eat much animal and luckily for me they offered a veggie burger. The other half ordered a bison burger. I think I loved the feel of the place more than the food. This place looks like it has been around for years. Its dark and a bit damp and musty and it was perfect for a meal. The service was quick and to the point. Got our food, ate, and left. Simple easy and full bellies = happy customers.

If youre craving hamburgers, this is the place. I think the prices are reasonable. burgers are juicy and big. for the burgers, you get a choice of 1/3lb or 1/2 patty and a choice of side: fries (ask to fry twice if you like your fries crispy), soup of the day, salad bar, or coleslaw. You can also choose if you want your burger on a reg sesame bun or french roll (and let them know if you want it toasted). Or if youre craving something besides burgers, they have fish burger, chicken burgers, steak, fried chicken, and buffalo burgers.

The service was really great. I wanted a bison burger, but the knowledgeable server noticed I was pregnant and warned me that it would have to be served medium (since its a leaner meat well done would be tough and not yummy) and I appreciated it. Got a beefy burger and it was great! Compared to Calibur down the street the price is comparable when you consider how much they charge for adding bacon/avocado etc, the burger was better and the setting and service here is SOOO much better. Had to review it

We had a hankering for a steak. The reviews were ok for this place and we knew going in the atmosphere was going to be poor but wow it is like walking in to a coffee shop. We almost left based on that but then we saw the steaks they had displayed in their fridge. The steak was cooked quite well but there was absolutely no seasoning on it what so ever. Their onion rings were really good but my dining experience was worth about half of what they charged so they are off of my list.

Ever since the 80s the smell of grilled meats has filled the West Portal Station area! These burgers are great, but the most exciting part are the meat choices, and butcher like counter as you enter. I am pleased to tell you that the ground buffalo meat its delicious! Lean and lower in cholesterol, the buffalo meat burgers are epic! They also make fantastic steaks and even have a small salad bar. There is no hiding greatness as the grill is right up front, visible to all!

Not a fan. I am actually shocked it got so many good reviews! we went here me and a bunch of friends trusting the 4 starts rating of this place. But it was quite disappointing. The food was tasteless. I had the Hawaiian burger, tasted below average and needed salt. Plus ut was super dry. I had a piece of the Angus buffalo steak that mu hubby ordered, it lacked seasoning and was very very mediocre. Definitely will not be coming here back again.

This place is a wonderful, no frills burger joint. Their meat is outstanding and I always appreciate a place that is confident enough to serve my burger rare. Its all pretty standard options (blue cheese, bbq burger), but they execute exceptionally. The handcut fries are also really good and my plate is always empty. The bun is the weakest link of the burger, but who can complain. Good, old fashioned burgers at a reasonable price.

Bulls Head has the last real salad bar in town (costs less than the one at whole foods). They serve every type of burger you can think of -- including bison, salmon, turkey, veggie as well as beef that they grind on site. Friends who are vegan even enjoy menu items like baked potatoes, onion rings and of course the salad bar. I think it is the best casual burger place in the city.

The lighting is a bit bad Im the back room, but if you sit in the front its great! We had to ask to get the tables cleaned and looking around looks like most of them could have used it. The steaks were fantastic though, both of us ordered a filet mignon medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The steak was flavorful and melted in the mouth. Going to try the burgers next.

Bulls Head has been around ever since I was a little kid and is a West Portal staple. Through the decades, the core of the food has not changed (which is a good thing) with some added menu items to keep up with the times - notably their buffalo burgers. Ive been eating their burgers for 25+ years now and am not sick of them.

Thumbs up! As you walked in the first thing you notice is the quality of the meat. It is fresh and very appetizing. I ordered medium rare 1 half pounder with all the trimmings. Even the french fries were tasty. The only negative is the lack parking availability.

Great place. Waitress was very nice and helpful. The food. We got 2 cheeseburgers. One was mushroom, bacon. Juicy, prefect cooking, just what you want. Both we amazing. The garlic fries are out of this world. If you are looking for onion rings, this is the place.
