My girlfriend and I consider ourselves to be pretty decent sushi critics and typically eat it once or twice a week at different restaurants in San Francisco and during our travels. We were excited to try this place when it opened around the corner from us. We were both very impressed with the quality of the fish and the creativity of the chefs. The staff was very attentive and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is great. We are excited to continue coming back here and are adding it to our rotation.

I went in early around 5:45pm when it was empty except for one table being occupied. Seeing that I was alone, kind waitress offered me the sushi bar. I asked for a table. She told all tables were reserved. Then we both saw a table By the door not reserved. She asked two other waiters in the back who shook their heads and told her to offer me a seat at the back where the bar counter was lowered. I left. They should advertise as "reservation only" if they dont take walk-ins.

Excellent sushi. Fresh fish. Excellent kitchen dishes. I am a heavy sushi fan. Ive probably frequented over 100 sushi spots in California. This is one of the best. Its brand new in sf. It is a must try. And best of all, service, staff, and chef are amazing. Chef is so cool and he doesnt mind if you have a roll you want but isnt on the menu. He will make it custom. Awesome. If I could give more stars I would.

I am a die hard fan of nigiri and Akira did not disappoint. The fish tasted so fresh and tender and was on the table within 15 minutes of ordering. Service was friendly and casual, and the cozy atmosphere set the stage for some seriously impressive sushi. If youre looking for the best quality at a reasonable price, you need to eat here.

Even though the food was a little expensive and small in portion, the staff was really nice and friendly! The interior design was superb and the eating set (plate, soysauce plate, teacup) was well kept. No chip or mismatched like in some places. It was high class, it would impressive your date!

Had the pleasure of eating while I was over here on business and ended up here almost nightly. Amazing talented Chef whose passion comes through in each dish. Great produce and an amazing balance of delicate traditional flavours. Cannot rate this high enough.

The ankimo quail egg scallop spoon is SO GOOD; Toro sashimi, truffle hamachi carpaccio... Everything is top quality, and in a really unassuming place. Its quite pricey though, so just be prepared!
