I have lived in the community where The Venetian is located for 20 years. My family and I decided to try The Venetian so we ordered takeout. My husband and kids had pizza while I chose the Chicken Picatta. That evening I got sick from the Chicken Picatta. After a couple of days I decided I should call to let them know I got sick so they can prevent this from happening to anyone else. I called Sunday and asked to speak to the manager. I was told that they were not in and if there was something that they could help me with. I told the gentleman on the phone that I got sick from my meal and he replied "Could I have your name and number so I can have one of the 2 owners Frank or Joey call you. Their customers are very important to them and I am sure they will want to apologize to you personally. I am positive they will because they are my cousins". I said sure and gave him my information. As the night went on I did not recieve a call from anyone. The next day in the early afternoon I thought I would try to give them another call since I have not heard back. I called and asked for a manager and was told none were in. Later that day my husband and I (after still not hearing from anyone) decided to go back to The Venetian in the hopes of speaking with a manager as we were starting to feel as if this was of no importance to them. We walk in to find that there were only 3 patrons at one table. We looked around for an employee and saw no one. So we continued to wait for almost 10 minutes before a gentleman came walking out from a door behind the bar. He said "Party of 3?" I replied "oh no we are hear to see if we can speak with a manager. The gentleman said "Well there is a manager here his name is Billy, but he is kinda busy right now" I asked to please speak with him. Billy came out and I explained my situation to him and that I have not heard from anyone. He said he will call Frank (one of the owners) now and see if he WANTS to talk to me. Billy then walks over to me, hands me his phone and says "Here is Frank". I began to tell Frank my situation about getting sick and calling the other night but did not hear from anyone. Franks response was "Well mam...I dont come in until 3:00 and I get my messages then." I replied "I can understand that and it would have been nice if the gentleman I spoke to the first night would of told me I wouldnt be hearing from you until Monday" I tried to stay on track of the main reason for my call which was getting sick from there food but he did not want to hear me and told me "You are a very angry woman and shouldnt get upset because I did not call." I told him that i just want to get my money back and if he could credit my card. His response was "Lady I will just give you cash so you dont come back to my restaurant again...I dont want you at my restaurant"! I was shocked to hear that since I was a paying customer and got sick from their food. I dont think their customers are important to them as I was told the first time I called. I will NEVER go back and I do not recommend this place at all. Service and Management are terrible and the food made me SICK.

I will not be eating at this restaurant based on the way the customer - Alica G - was treated who got food poison. This is exactly why its imporant as a restaurant owner to do right by a customer. You have got to make it a point to be incredibly responsive. I would have spent $200 plus on a business meeting I have this Friday. Unfortunately 1 bad review can hurt you for future customers. Hope this is taken to heart. If someone describes their experience in the detail they wrote and take the time....its their way of warning others from a possible situation. Thank you Alicia. I have never met Alicia but am thankful for her sharing the experience.

To start positive the service and ambiance were great. The restaurant itself is cozy, cool, and clean. The food was less than spectacular. The bread they give you to start out is dry, hard, and mostly tasteless. I ordered the lasagna and it was a pile noodles with meatballs and rubbery, dried out ricotta cheese sandwiched between. There was an excessive amount of marinara ladled on top and overall it was unappealing in taste and texture. My dining partner ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and while the serving size was good it was underwhelming in flavor. The taste and quality of the food is not really worth the price.

On-line advertised prices are significantly below what is actually charged when placing a to go order or paying at the register. Weve been going here for years but this is not an acceptable business practice. Disappointed in the Venetian Restaurant staff and management response to this discrepancy in advertised prices vs. what they have in their "system" and the lame and conflicting reasons for those differences. It is the principle here--not the money. We chose Leftys in Mission Hills instead for pizza and are not sorry about that decision.

Ive been coming to the Venetian for 35 plus years and have never been disappointed. The pizza is really good, close to the best in San Diego. Ive had the pizza from that Etna place, it is alright, but very greasy. Not so with the Venetians pizza. Actually, they did get a take out order wrong once, I let the owner know about it, and he gave me a 20 dollar gift card! They really do appreciate the folks in the neighborhood.

Went tonight. Food was delicious, service was extremely poor. Got our meals asked for water and more bread. Never saw our waitress again. Had to ask another server for a box and more water after we had already eaten. Having served myself for almost 10 years, pretty unacceptable. At least from what I saw there was no reason for her to have been in the weeds. May have just been an off night for her though, we all have em.

This is not an authentic Italian restaurant. My pasta was not cooked in salted water (everyone knows this trick). The tomato sauce tasted like it was out of a can. The meatballs were white in color and tasted 100% pork vs. veal, beef and pork combo. The bread was a standard bolillo that you get from Sprouts or Vons. All the other Italian restaurants Ive ever gone to, serves either focaccia, ciabatta or both.

My favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego . . . bar none! If 30 days have passed without a visit, I start to get some serious cravings. I just love the Veal Marsala. The sauce is sooooo garlicky and yummy, and the veal is just spot on good! My wife loves the Scallops Arrabiata . . . Jumbo scallops in a spicy tomato, basil sauce . . . again with plenty of garlic. Do yourselves a favor and just go!
