For every good taco shop in SD there is a bad one, and Sombrero is my least favorite. Ive eaten there a lot purely out of convenience, yet less and less frequently over the years. The employees are always friendly and the place itself is okay to look at, but the food just sucks. If I do order something its usually the chile relleno burrito. Probably what makes it most edible is that it is a wet burrito, so the rubbery blandness of the flour tortilla is less apparent. Although I rarely order a carne asada or california burrito, I recall the meat being pretty good most of the time, but occasionally did not taste fresh. Another plate I think they do right is juevos rancheros. And the breakfast torta is another thing Ill go for, although small and greasy. Whatever you do, avoid anything with shredded beef in it, such as rolled tacos or beef tacos. It is the absolute worst and you will throw your food away. Their salsa is not very good either, but Ill eat it. One last thing that sucks about them is they put every single item in a styrofoam container. True, all Mexican restaurants overuse them, but Sombrero will put a single taco in its own container.

I used to drive out of my way to get dinner here for everyone because. .. well, Im not sure why... maybe because of the incandescent sign and the fact they have several locations, so they must be doing something right? Wrong. The food is average. The establishment smells like mouse pee. Its always freezing inside too. They have messed up my order almost every time and the last time I had to drive back and exchange it, the "sweet" lady thats always there made sure I knew it was my fault, not the cook... in a "sweet" voice though. Dont try to call an order because there is a horrid girl who works there and she is the most graceless creature I have ever had the misfortune to speak to. She is very unruly and rude and I always see her lick her thumbs when counting money. I dont trust a person like that to bag my food. I found a new place called Glorias and the man there is so polite and warm. Ill be dropping by there from now on.

First time I ordered in this place. Uber eats. I asked for a Special Burrito Jumbo Deluxe. It was supposed to come with shredded beef and green salsa inside, but what I got was lettuce, tomatoe and onion, everything raw just sitting there. Completely wrong. Not a bit attractive food. I called this place to let them know and just make another order. I was told it wasnt possible and the money may be refunded. So they asked my cards number and expiration date, which I thought weird at first, but thought was dealing with a serious place. Well, now they are not answering my calls. Suspicions business with poor costume service. If you feel like eating Mexican food, just pick another restaurant. There are plenty of good options in San Diego. Id give them less than 1 star if it was an option.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. We placed an order through uber eats and when we received our order, it was 100% wrong. We were told by our delivery guy that we needed to reach out to Uber and the restaurant so we did. We couldnt find a number for Uber so we called the restaurant instead. We spoke to Sylvia who told us that they were busy and would not correct our order; if we wanted the correct order, we could come in and pay for another one. We asked to speak with a manager and were not allowed. We are very disappointed all around with both the restaurant and Uber Eats. As of now, no one has offered us a refund of our order. Will not being going to this establishment again.

What do you really want from chain Mexican food? We end up going here a lot simply because its the closest taco shop in proximity to our house (dont try and stalk us). If you stick to basics like rolled tacos with guac, youre okay. Im not a fan of their tortillas and that makes my favorite burrito, the BCR, almost impossible to eat. Plus, the beans feel canned and the rice is that one kind of Spanish rice instead of quality Mexican rice. I know thats not a real distinction, but the rice tastes like it came out of Knolls packet. The people who work here are nice, competent and speedy. I just wish they had the ability to go off menu like a real nice taco shop does.

That standard, non-fancy restaurant that can meet your need. The food is is nothing to tout. Like a lot of Mexican restaurants in SD they offer salsas and pickled carrots, which if you happen through here, Id recommend the latter. Otherwise, my story here is Ive been through here a bit pickled myself and even pickled, regretted and complained about it. For as bad as this sounds, its open late and pretty cheap. Dont recommend showing it off to family visitors.

Went here a lot for a quick bite to eat. Their California burrito always aims to please, and when they were $5.14 they always fit the bill. They recently raised all of their prices by a dollar and they dont provide free chips to munch on while you wait. I now go to a different taco shop... were happy together, like sombreros and I used to be...

My friend and I go here all the time, and both always order jamaica and something like a california burrito but with beans and rice instead of carne asada. Over the last couple years weve had only great experiences there, though we always have the same order. The establishment is pleasant and the employees are nice.

Absolutely dreadful food... probably the worst burrito Ive ever eaten. Ever. My food was completely tasteless & overly soft. My kids "cheese quesadilla" looked & tasted like it was made with Kraft slices. And had soggy french fries as a side... I wont be going back.... I can t stress this enough.

A seemly out of place gem in South Park. Nothing better than remembering there is Sombrero Mexican food near by after stumbling out of Hamiltons. The staff at this location is solid too. Cheese fries with guac and lots of hot sauce cures everything.

Good. Everything, from the salsa bar to the tendereat. Fresh Pico de gallon, guacamole, lettuce etc. I personally recommend the Torta de Pollo Chipotle.

I have only been once and I got the mix burrito. It was terrible. I didnt finish it and I eat anything. If you go DO NOT get the mix burrito.

It was so hot inside I was going to leave until I realized I could sit outside. They also need a self serve soda fountain.

Average Mexican food. Nothing is wrong with the place, just nothing stuck out. I liked the salsa bar the most.
