My husband and I stumbled upon Roxy one cold Sunday. What a cool find! Starting with the aesthetics, Roxy is hip to look at. The cowhide banquettes, the over-high ceiling, the modern cowgirl art, the great lighting and the tremendous plate glass front all lend a hip attitude. Gee, we thought, hope the foods good. And so it was. Very. We are quite commited to eating organic produce, meat and cheese, and Roxys owners apparently are too. Their statement on the back of the menu made us feel as though we had found a restaurant of kindred spirits in Sacramento. These appear to be people who are commited to locally produced, quality ingredients for a simple but fun menu and dining experience. For us, it was a joy to find a restaurant with locally grown beef, artisan cheeses and organic veggies while still being able to enjoy an upscale (though not pretentious) dining experience. I ordered the vegetable pot pie (without chicken). Im in love. Cant wait to eat it again. Really hoping it wasnt beginners luck. The goat cheese added a complementary and not overpowering flavor boost to a nice mixture of veggies, mushrooms and sauce. It was small but absolutely rich and filling. My husband had the buffalo burger with cheese and bacon. He said it was the best burger hes had since we moved to Sac from LA in August, and hes been on a serious quest. The meat was prepared as he asked (medium), the bun was tastey and everything came easy to assemble. He even liked the garlic fries (and he usually doesnt like garlic fries). He said his cosmo (martini) also was terrific. We take our food seriously in my family. My sister is a chef and owns her own bistro. My mother, in addition to being an excellent family cook, has taught cooking and cooking technique classes over many years. And I like to eat (and cook). We come from Los Angeles, where there is no shartage of either trendy, fly-by-night restaurants or really good, solid restaurants. It is my hope, for my sake and for the sake of Sacramento, that Roxy is the latter and remains commited to the core values of organically grown, locally produced, artisan foods and ingredients that can make a great restaurant.

I dont even know where to start..... I had called in to put my name on the waiting list. The hostess said it would be 20 minutes. We got there at that time and we waited another 20 minutes, no big deal,I totally understand that, but hte hostess was not warm and friendly. She seemed frantic and cold. We sit down and are greeted by one server and end up with another. The new server was the rudest server I have ever had. He should not be in the restaurant industry. He hardly came to check on us. Our waters were out, didnt clear dirty plates. When he came over we practically had to catch him before he left the table to order another drink instead of him asking if there was anything else we needed, which would have lost out on sales for him. After our meal, we had to stack our plates at the end of the table to let him know we were finished. He saw the stacked plates, made eye contact with me, smiled, then went to the very next table over and cleared their plates, went all the way back to the kitchen, then came back and said,"So who works in the food service industry? I can tell by the way you stack your plates." I think my group was a little caught off guard and no one really responded. very awkward. Then we had to ask for dessert menus. 15 minutes went by so we decided to skip the dessert. I would have totally understood on a busy night, but all the tables around me were empty. I am really disappointed because this place is close to my house, and has a great atmosphere. Will try again, hopefully better service tho.

Im actually a little embarrassed that I forgot to get my free check in zucchini chips- do not make the same mistake! The place looks very upscale and is well kept. The ambiance is more on the romantic side, but definitely bring your friends for a happy hour, as its worth a try. We stood at the reception desk waiting for someone to acknowledge us and take us to a table, but the time it took for someone to do that was noticeably long. It wasnt horrendous, but long enough for me to give a weird look. To be fair, it was somewhat closer to closing time, and it was skeleton staff hour, so it was understandable. The food is really awesome. The zucchini chips (which I paid for) are a must have. They were lightly breaded and fried to resemble wafer sized Pik-Niks. The lamb meatballs were amazingly juicy and flavorful, with just enough red sauce to coat every bite. The lamb burger entree was good, although not as impressive as the tapas style appetizer. In its own right it was quite juicy, flavorful, and accompanied with some really great shoestring garlic fries, if youre looking for a medium, ask for something more well, as they tend to cook to the rare side. I dont mind, but Im sure someone will. The staff is super nice and attentive, and they do Buca-di-beppo style birthday greetings by bringing other staff to celebrate. Overall a great experience

The food and service has definitely gone down hill here. On the last 2 visits we have said we were not going to come back. Should haves tuck with that. We ordered the zucchini chips as an appetizer. The first order showed up and it was flat out cold. The second order showed up and they were cold also. I think they had been cooked much earlier in the evening and reheated. I felt that when we sent them back they would remake them. They were not gone long enough for them to be remade. I think they tried microwaving them again. They were not even eatable. I ordered the beef short ribs. They were also cold on the inside. I asked the waitress if they had been made ahead and she said yes. At least if you are going to precook entrees, serve them hot. No wonder there is a line at Banderas and you can walk in to Roxy on a Saturday night and be seated right away. Too bad as the food used to be really good. Hopefully it improves in the future!

Ive been here 3 or 4 times. Each time has just been "okay". The last time my wife and I were here, we had to literally walk out. The server was BEYOND rude (we overheard that he was trying to get his work done to go home), the food took 30 mins (and we were 1 of 3 tables in the entire place), and when it finally did come, it was lukewarm/stale/bland. We paid for our entire check anyway, but didnt even eat; we had to go to Bandera across the street (sooooo, we spent $60 at Roxy, and then another $75 at Bandera...for ONE meal). Sorry, Roxy...we live close to you and realllly wanted to like you, but 3 strikes, and youre out

Ive been to Roxy around 6 times now, and Ive loved it every time. They have a very classy "Paris meets the west" theme that is very unique. The last time I was in, they had switched to their fall menu with some great new additions. They focus on using many local and natural/organic ingredients. Most of the times ive been in they have featured thier "Lucky Dog Ranch Beef" which the owners pasture raise, without hormones or pesticides at their ranch in Davis? Its worth checking out.
