Wow after reading some of these reviews, I suspect some things. First of all, some of the negative reviews are plain petty. For example, the one calling this place a disgrace because they had hotdogs? REALLY? Most places like this try to cater to what is called "American style" and other types of tastes which is why they include food like pizza, hotdogs, French bread, and the many desserts that are available. Clearly common sense does not apply to some of these people bashing this place. Also, considering the content of some of these negative reviews, I doubt the legitimacy of some, though I could see where on a bad day, someone might get sick from undercooked items, these things happen. Yes, it is annoying when kids are running around screaming and making a mess...that is the fault of some of the pathetic parenting you see pretty much anywhere in public where "parents" allow their kids to do whatever they want..thats the general lack of respect that is becoming more and more common. I have been to this place several times over the last 3 years; myself and my wife eat there and have never had any bad experiences. It isnt always spotless, but it is kind of hard to clean counters when rude adults and children are attacking the food trays pushing and shoving as if they are starving to death(again, that lack of respect; uncivilized customers...not the fault of those who work there). No matter where you go to sit down and shove food in your hole, there are good and bad days. If some of these negative reviewers DID actually have experience in the retail and food service industry they would know that. No one, and no eatery is perfect 100% of the time. You want to see disgraceful? Take a look around some of these customers who have no sense at all. Love the food, the prices are fair, the place is usually clean even when busy.

I Have Been Coming To This Restaurant Since It First Opened About 7 Years Ago When It Was Called New York Buffet. Instead Of Happy Buffet They Should Call It Sad Buffet Because The Quality And Service Of This Place Has Completely Hit Rock Bottom. I Wanted To Spend Some Peaceful Time With My Mother And It Took One Waitress To Ruin The Afternoon. She Would Not Pick Up Our Plates And Would Not Refill Our Drinks And When Given The Bill She Was Too Lazy To Bring It To Our Table She Would Pass It Over The Divider Between The Booth And Their Dirty Plates Area. This Is Completely Disrespectful And We Decided She Deserved No Tip. She Even Tried Overcharging Us And When Confronted She Claim She Gave Our Bill To Another Table And She Had To Pay For The Amount Lost And Immediately Demanded A Tip! I Was Baffled And Angry Beyond Belief! When She Saw We Did Not Leave Her A Tip We Were Not Even Done And She Took Our Plates With Food, My Utensils, And The Cookies Given!!! We Are Never Ever Coming Back Here So Please STAY AWAY!!! There Are Hundreds Of Better Buffets That Will Treat Their Customers Right But This Restaurant Is Not One Of Them. Please Dont Let Yourself Be Humiliated And Mistreated Like We Were. You Are A Paying Customer And You/We Deserved Better Than This. They Lost A Long Time Customer And It Is Their Loss Not Mine.

I have lived in riverside for 15 years and ive been coming to Happy Buffet since they opened. Even before they opened back then when it was called a star buffet or something like that. Once Happy Buffet opened, there was a great improvement! The place looks much more luxurious! The food is good for the price. They even have decent sushi and decent ice cream. The crab legs and shrimp are good. They have a good variety of foods! they have a full salad/fruit bar, Sushi bar, seafood, variety of fish and shrimp: fried shrimp, steamed shrimp, shrimp cocktail, and shrimp with vegetables! All the "Chinese foods": orange chicken, fried rice, chow / lo mein, broccoli beef, kung pow chicken, egg rolls, frog legs, and lots lots more. They have an american food corner with pizza, ribs and stuff. They have a small variety of deserts. The only thing i could complain about is that the waiters sometimes suck and as expected are always Asian that speak just enough English but overall its a great deal for the price!

Someone told me this place was better than China Star on Magnolia. So I went their, and yeah the food was various, but the place was an ABSOLUTE mess. The counters were caked with hour old stains of food, their were spills all over the floor, kids were screaming, some of the food I got was stale, it was literally a disaster. Sure, they cant control kids screaming, but they can control everything else. I ate their last May. Yes, its been a year. But it just occurred to me a friend of mine has become very ill after eating their. the last time I was their, I contracted a SEVERE flu, worst case Ive had since my pneumonia, and wound up in the ER and that costed me over 400 bucks! Take a word of advice from someone who has worked retail and worked in fast food. Dont. Bother. It may look appetizing when youre in their (even with all the mess) but the minute you go home, you really start to wish you hadnt of even gone.

They were almost ok. They had ok pepper chicken & decent egg rolls, and so do hot and sour soup. No sesame chicken or other good items. Buffet was very limited and went for dinner too... When I was getting the noodles my boyfriend dropped some on the counter and the lady that was putting out clean dishes got the tonges and picked up the noodles and threw them back into the dish where the fresh noodles were at. And then she cleaned up the juice that was left, but that was so gross no telling what else they do that with. "Oh chicken wing out that someone dropped let me throw that back in, no one will know..." I watched the guy cleaning tables touch all kinds of nasty stuff, including pulling his wedge out of his butt & came over without cleaning his hands and touched my entire cup I didnt drink any after that. It was cheap though, but I wouldnt go back. Ive had way better.

To compare this place to China star on magnolia is funny. I wont go back there...this place is happy buffet for a reason...starting with the sushi...the size of the sashimi cuts are twice as big as even a sushi restaurant serves...and it hasnt been frozen and isnt shiny like a rainbow like the previously mentioned place. They had eel, salmon, yellowtail, & tuna sushi. They offered 2 or 3 basic variations of rolls. Nothing extravagant...but freshly made and not skimpy. They even have a crab hand roll, again, not skimpy. thats as far as I got really, but my husband is a buffet hero he also noted that they filled the crabs constantly and everything I tasted was super. I am very surprised and glad we found this place. By the way...I am not easily impressed, especially by food places, and double especially by buffet establishments.

Horrible food. Horrible service. If I could give 0 stars I would. Cups they gave up were broken nd leaking all over table. All fruit nd salad nd "fresh cut vegetables" was WARM, more than juss room temperature. There tea is absolutely awful. If BO had a taste, their tea has that taste. They allow families to let their children run a muck around entire restraunt, one child came up nd tried to pick up my 2 week old son. They also allowed the children running a muck to play in pond water in center of building that is full of koi fish. Workers are rude nd dont acknowledge you. Service was terrible. I dont recommend any of their food, it was all stale. Id lick a butthole before eatin here again.
