Re: New Tipping Policy. Sauced just lost a customer. I went there for lunch today and was insulted to be presented with a flyer announcing their new policy that I will be paying a 20% service charge without so much as a by-your-leave. Whether to tip, or not to tip, or how much to tip is the customers prerogative, not that of restaurant management. This not only makes the customer feel that he has been bait-and-switched on the prices, but is an insensitive slap to the discriminating consumer. If they feel the need to increase employee wages, then do so. If they need to raise prices to support those wages, the do that too. If they feel that tips have little relation to the quality of service, then institute a no-tipping policy, Then ADVERTISE that their prices are higher than the competition especially because they value the employees and want them to be paid well without relying on the variability of tips. There are too many good restaurant choices in Petaluma to go where the customer is insulted by being forced to pay a service charge. Pity... The food is not bad.

A coworker and I went in for lunch on a Wednesday. The location is good, the store is spacious and well decorated. At lunch, the place was empty. About as many staff as customers. Ill bet this joint is jumpin on a Friday night after happy hour. The menu is tilted toward the dinner crowd. The $22 half rack and $16 Sliced Brisket looked attractive, but I didnt want to go back to an afternoon department staff meeting with a food coma. Settled on the $15 Dixie Burger and an iced tea. Burger was fine. Service was approaching adequate. For a $20+ tab there are better lunch choices in Petaluma. My advice to the mgt is, if they want to keep the shop open at lunch, offer a lunch menu, limit seating to the main floor, and staff accordingly. If I was inclined to hang around Petaluma for happy hour Id go back. Not so much for lunch.

Went in for apetizers and a drink with my girl, and their new "no tipping policy" ended up costing us $58 dollars hahaha these folks must think theyre still in the city. Im a local so I guess Ill stick to the best in town if Im paying 60 dollars for appetizers and one glass of whisky that was not, a very expensive bourbon. To each his own though I wanted to go back to try their meats but after this experience I think Ill keep that $$$ for starks or seared or take a trip to a real bbq joint and happily tip over what they charged for our "service fee". I will say the service was good, entitled to an auto tip well thats where they will be having a problem as service isnt always up to par in any industry especially serving food. Also "tips" are for servers who give you an experience not just service!

This is Loris mom....I made reservations for 9 people for 6pm (my sons birthday). When we got there our table was not ready....after we were seated, our waiter came over and took our drink orders. We ordered appetizers, Which took a half hr to bring. Another half hr goes by and we wave down our waiter to take our dinner orders. So we all give him our orders, one member of our group wanted Chicken! We couldnt believe that one half hr later our waiter comes back and tells us...we have no chicken. This is the second and last time we will go to this place....bad service, food isnt that good...prices are high! The bartender was a horses rear end...he couldnt be bothered taking our drink orders, while we were at the bar....this place is a sports bar..not a place to go for a nice dinner.

Out in California visiting from Texas, so my expectations we not very high for BBQ. That being said, I had a pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good. I had macaroni with it, and it was pretty good, I think it was baked. I tried one of the ribs and it was a little dry. They also had signature sauces, I tried all. Georgia- definitely more mustard than anything else Hot- Got a nice kick but tolerable, definitely the best out of the 4 Regular- Nothing too special, just house made Sweet- Very very sweet, have to go light on it Service took a little long considering there was not many people, but I think the food made up for it. The waiter only came to the table once during our visit as well.

Service is super friendly and allows dogs on the outdoor patio. Craft brews are tasty and cost $4.50 on Sundays. Food is fine, not good. Pork ribs and burnt ends both taste dry and tough around the edges, like they bathed in a heat lamp for hours after the smoker. Jalapeno poppers were worth $6 maybe, not $11. Cornbread side was fine but served without butter. Mac and cheese was legitimately good but didnt salvage the meal. Skipped dessert even though that was half the reason we visited. Overall, well probably visit Pig in a Pickle instead, since its about the same distance from our home in San Rafael and always fresh.

I would rate the overall quality of the restaurant at 5 stars, but have submitted 4/5 because of the prices( almost every restaurant in Petaluma is over-priced like this, the rents ridiculous.). I come on happy hour and always get the strawberry lemonade, its modestly priced at $5. The array of house-made barbeque sauces offer a variety of different flavors, and are each tasty in their own fashion. The menu selection is typical of a pit barbeque type restaurant (chili, briskets, burgers, etc.), and the venue offers various "nightlife" activities throughout the month(the one coming to mind being drag queen bingo.)

I love their food. Im a big fan of taco Tuesday, not just for the $2 tacos (which are TASTY!) but also because of the $4 margaritas. Their burnt end nachos and their Jalapeno cheese grits are amazing...their burnt ends are just plain amazing. Unfortunately their prices are increasing, it started with their tip included movement and seems to have gone up again :( My other complaint is their restaurant is very very noisy. *update. The Brussel sprouts are fabulous. Dont sit on the patio, the service there is poor...well service tends to be poor here. Waters not refilled , etc.

Very cool atmosphere and the cocktails were amazing. We had a large party on a busy night and still felt well attended to. They also had surprisingly awesome vegetarian cuisine for a BBQ joint! The only thing that bothered me was that the wait staff was using those tablet things to take our orders, and as a former waitress I now how awful those things are. As a restaurant you sacrifice service quality when your staff has to screw around with them to put in a non standard order.

Worst service EVER!! Had to wave down a server to take our order....food didnt take SO long to arrive....ordered a beer....never got it. Had to hunt down somebody to pay our tab....we were totally ignored the whole time we were there....will not return. There was no silverware, sauce, napkins etc at our table....we had to grab a bucket ourselves and it only had one setting in it....luckily my friend needed a knife for her burger and i only needed a fork. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

The fixed tip policy is dead as a dodo. There is a wide choice of entrees and sides. The barbecue is very good (not fabulous) and you have your choice of four sauces. There is also a wide variety of beers and spirits. This is a barbecue joint / sports bar, so dont expect candlelit tables or a hushed atmosphere. What you can expect is some notable barbecue and related dining experience. I would come back again, especially with the whole family.
