We went there on suggestion of someone we just met, who clearly has no taste in good food or ambience :). Now we know to never pay attention to that guys recos :). The place, the food and the service were underwhelming. First, the place. It is the size of a rabbit hole where the owner tries to stuff as many patrons as physically possible with no room to move and literally staring at neighbors fare. Food was so bland and tasteless, and way overpriced for what we got in return. We spent $100 for a family of 4 meal, and it was the worst spend of $100 on food we ever made. I should have donated that money to charity instead. The lamb curry was sauteed in half-cooked onion sauce, and had a pale yellow color, and had absolutely no flavor to it. The roast chicken was rubbery and cold. The Daal Makhani was edible but was below par. Seemed like the place had a novice cook, let alone a chef. The service was so poor that we kept waiting for our salad/chutney/condiment fare till the end of our meal. We reminded the non English speaking staff lady several times, but i guess she had other things on her mind that evening. Overall, poor quality food, service and ambience that cost us the moon. Talk about a double whammy! Oh and one more thing - dont go by the photos of food on their website and other marketing material, the food/place looks nothing like that in reality and certainly doesnt taste as well. We fell for that despite being skeptical about the recommendation we got.

I ate at Janta just the other day with a group of friends. We decided to order family style and share all of the dishes. I also ordered a lassi which tasted like yogurt and milk blended together (Im not a fan of yogurt). It took a good 30-40 minutes for the dishes to arrive and when they did I was surprised at how small they were! Im beginning to get used to small dishes, but these were exceptionally tiny. Despite the size of the dishes there was still left overs because no one cared to finish them off. The flavors were lacking and compared to other nearby Indian restaurants, pretty bad. In the end, it cost $15 per person plus $2 for a drink and I would not eat at Janta again.

Wow, I was blown away. Having read some reviews before visiting I had my expectations set higher than I normally would, but Janta still managed to exceed them by a good margin. I had the non-vegetarian Thali for 2 people, and right from the get-go each dish I tried was better than the last and I ended up so full I could hardly finish my desert. All together we paid $45 and Id say it was more than worth it. The food tasted as authentic Indian as anything Ive had before and the chai tea along side a rice pudding was the perfect end to my meal. If Im ever in the area again Ill be sure to stop by!

Just got a thali take away from this place. Amazing. I went in almost at closing time around 10pm. They still offered me a take away meal from the menu $15. Lot of items with nice packing, fresh and amazing taste. 3 types of curries( aloo palak, mutter panner, dal) 2 naans, rice, fresh salad, papad, raita, jamoon, tamarind chutney and one another green chutney. Cant ask for more.

We had the lunch buffet on Saturday. Some of the dishes were very good - the black daal, saag, kadi. Some others were too full of oil and very salty. Also, the samosa was really bad. However, for the price one is paying ($11) for the buffet, I think its a good deal overall.

Lunch buffet is good with authentic Indian curries. In case of dinner (which isnt buffet), there is a lot of waiting time involved. Nevertheless, the veg-biryani that I tried here is really good. Good place for vegetarians. :)

I used to work around the corner, and everyone would rave about Janta, but, although I appreciate the home-cooked aspect, I always went away disappointed with the food, and wished I had walked down the street to Darbar.

I did not like the food. Neither the ambience. Small eatery......it could have been very warm and homely, with a little effort.

Never coming back here. Lunch buffet: sauces watery and insipid, everything sweetened, chicken tasted old. Papadam stale.
