I was fortunate to stumble upon Cafe Gabriela looking for a which lunch when I was in the area. This is a very nice and simple place with the feel of the Philippines inside. I really like the interior and seeing the variety of artwork on the walls. I ordered the Sotanghon noodle soup and what was apparently their staple, the pulled pork adobo sandwich. The Sotanghon soup was not bad. However, due to it being fattier and greasier than I was expecting, I was not able to fully finish the whole serving. The pulled pork adobo sandwich tasted good. My only issue was that some of the pork was a little dry. However, I do like the baguette they used, as it allowed the sandwich to not get very soggy as I was eating it with the sauce of the adobo soaking into the bread. Service was very nice and I enjoyed the conversation I had with the staff while they were preparing my order. I suppose it does help I am Filipino!

Do I want a salad? Or do I want a sandwich? Salad! No sandwich! No salad... I cant decide... oh wait! A half and half lunch combo. There is a god! This place is wonderful. Intimate with great customer service. The food was great too... It gets busy at lunch time so there may be a wait - but if you get in the door before 11:45 you should be okay, otherwise be prepared to wait a little while. Its a small store with a small staff and totally worth it. My salad and sandwich was fresh, light and tasty. They also serve Blue Bottle Coffee - which was a little pricey but I know many people consider it their crack. ;) Anyway, I highly recommend this place!

This is an excellent sandwich spot by my office, I LOVE coming here for the turkey cranberry and simple salad. The ingredients are fresh and the place always smells amazing when they are making adobo. Gabrielas always has good soup specials in winter so be sure to try that out as well. Definitely a "go-to" lunch spot in Oakland, always consistent "goodness".

OMG I order a cafe au lait one sip and I suddenly realized this may be the best cup of coffee I have had in s half a century. I ordered a bagel sandwich off the menu. I was carefully guided to jalapeno cheese bagel with turkey, tomatoes and a balsamic vinaigrette.

Wasnt sure what to expect, but the blue bottle coffee and the pastries were enjoyable. The people working here were also friendly. Definitely a great cafe to have in the Old Oakland/Downtown neighborhood.

Their pulled pork adobo sandwich is a must-have! Be warned that the venue is kinda small, so there arent a lot of places to sit.

Good coffee, good pastries, good music, good posters, good people. More of a take-out than sit-in cafe.
