My fiance and I live very close to the Shamrock and we love this little neighborhood pub. We avoid it on weekend nights after 10 or 11, when all the Bros and their pretentious arm-candy show up, but the rest of the time its a really entertaining local spot. We always meet someone new and laugh for hours over some fun storys and jokes. The food is typical bar or pub food but their selection of beers, pilners and ales as well as irish whiskeys are fantastic. The bartenders are all authentic Irish with their "what the eff do ya want?" attitude, but if you dont take it personally and treat them nicely, they will return the favor. The only problem we have is that we never leave this bar with a bill or less than a hundred bucks. We love this spot and like the review below, we find it to be a breath of fresh air, and usually hides some normal down to earth folks in the midst of Newport BS. Oh, one last thing, they could do to bring in some RI-RA bands.

"The Rock" is my favorite stop when Im down in Newport (about once a month). A real Pub, every hour has its set of regulars. I recommend their soups (chicken or meatball, usually) and their Reuben sandwich. Mostly, I enjoy a Magners a bite of something, read the paper and chat with whoever is nearby. Christine and Frank are the proprietors, straight from the old country, the bar staff is memorable Jo, Tony and Maggie in particular. If you are forty years younger than I am the Friday, Saturday scene would have been one Id have picked up on.

Great Irish Pub! Went there for the first time tonight, Saturday night. Good seating arrangements with requisite bar and stools plus booths and assorted counter tops. Many well distributed flat screens. Two very nice real Irish guys behind the bar. Clean cut, trendy courteous thirty something, minimal body art, all white and probably collegiate crowd there around 8ish, probably younger later after I left. The women were hot and my date agreed that the guys were hot too. Better than the Irish pub at the pier in Manhattan Beach in my opinion.

My FAVORITE BAR IN NB! Jo, Christina, Derek, Scott & Tony are all SUPER people. Its as close to an old-time sailors bar or beach bar, which means that I feel obligated to support them. Stop in, have a drinky-winky of some sort & I defy you to tell me that you did not enjoy the ambiance, or lack thereof, which is the Shamrock!!!

The place is awful. Very dirty, bad service, and overpriced drinks do not make for a fun place. The bathrooms had puke all over them and when we told staff about it they didnt ever care. The deal breaker was when my friend ordered a drink and the glass had lipstick on it. It was like drinking in a dumbster, DO NOT GO!!!!!

Good for live music. Great dive bar. Locals mostly. Lots of parking in back. Great for soccer as well. Bar owner is Irish and so are some of the bartenders. Great bartenders who are super friendly. Mixed crowd in terms of age, doesnt seem to bother anyone.

Rude bartenders and white trash clientele. Definitely not the place to bring a date to. Most of the guys in there are not with girls and its easy to see why.
