On my business trips to the area, Ive had some wonderful meals in Martinez - but the one I had at Fresh Start Cafe was NOT one of them! On 7/6/2013, I had a late breakfast (omelet, hash browns, biscuits and gravy) there. I was then sick from it for the rest of the afternoon and evening. The omelet (meat and cheese) was awful, and loaded with pepper, the hash browns were full of both pepper and oil, and the biscuits….. The biscuits were obviously made elsewhere (thawed?) with so much pepper in the gravy that they were uncomfortable to eat. The biscuits were so bad (not soft or fluffy, but rather hard as a rock) that when I could finally cut into them they actually repelled the gravy! They would not soak up gravy at all! The only server (daughter of the owner?) has no understanding of health laws! I watched as she rubbed her hands on her face and hair, and then picked up a waffle with her bare hands to put on a plate (I noticed this after I was already eating, or I would have walked out of the place right then). She was also using her same bare hands to handle money, and then go back to pick up food without ever washing them or using gloves. Now I see why the place was empty when I arrived, and why I was sick later on. Simply put, I will simply never set foot in there again!

Solid place for breakfast and lunch... Closed for Dinner though... Service is old fashion waitress action. Everybody is nice and the price is reasonable... Good omelettes.. Good breakfast skillets and their burgers ard tasty

Quaint and delicious. This is only my 2nd time here but service and food havent disappointed yet. Also, really like the oldies playing in the background. When Im here, I feel like Im in a black and white movie.

Saw positive ratings and had great hopes, but this place was just average. Very slow service even though not busy. Food average. Surprised to see bullet holes in window. Try another place.

Slow service to start, but got better. Omelettes not 3 egg and they barely put any meat or veggies inside. House potatoes did not have peppers and onions like we were told
