Just like an oyster, The Marshall Store sits remote from civilization. Like the oysters deep beneath the surface home, this place is far away both literally and figuratively. They too are worth the effort. Like an oyster being shucked you’ll come here and have your world opened. There are 3 main establishments in the relative area every oyster lover will go to and each type unique drawing a specific type of person. This is the experience of every oyster lover who comes down here. They know the name Hog Island from San Francisco so they come here first and hate it because they didn’t make reservations and didn’t come early and didn’t bring food, wine or anything, totally expecting full service oyster experience at a cheaper price than San Francisco. Then they learn of Tomales Bay, which sounds super authentic and then you realize it’s filled with people who on their 1st time went to Hog and are looking for a better experience. This is not for the newbie either. So you finally come to Marshall and it felt like heaven. I mean it still is heaven, but it’s a different kind. It’s not roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, come prepared sort of place. They really do things right, they are authentic enough to not cater too much to the city crowd, yet way more refined than Hog and Tomales for service and experience for the general public. The view to me is better here and the crowds are much more mellow after having ruined a morning, an afternoon, a day or multiple days learning the hard way about the oyster game around here. Please don’t come here with some massive group though. So tacky. I love the view, the service, the ambiance, it’s the only place I’ll bring people who may not be as oystery as me. They offer less classic offerings like bacon, chorizo, Kilpatrick and BBQ toppings on top of the usual lemon/mignonette and crushed ice. I personally like the BBQ and chorizo on grilled oysters versus raw. I found the Dungeness crab sandwich to be lacking, I also found out that it’s not smoked despite being under the “from the smoker” menu. It’s lacking flavor and could use a sauce. Probably showcase the crab and shrimp better on a louie salad. Tri tip is the way to go as I found the pulled pork to be dry, basic. I thought the braising in Guiness to do nothing, the aioli to detract from what’s supposed to be a natural sweetness. The turkey is good and hearty, dense, worth it for the hungry. Tri tip is santa Barbara style and balanced. The oysters are excellent, shucked or self shucked. They are pricier than other spots around, but like I mentioned most people do it all wrong and end up loving this place. The clam chowder is hearty and if you didn’t come here for the oysters you might come here for this (yes over anything in this city) I love their cheese selection which is great with bread plates. Their cocktail sauce is on point, hearty and bright. The décor is pretty basic, more outdoor-ish than indoorsy. Heed my advise and choose your oyster spot based on level of knowledge and skill and don’t be like all these 1-2 star people who did it all wrong by going to the wrong place.

The food was to die for.. seriously! If you love oysters, you must try this place. The smoked oysters were incredible. They served them on crustinis and had just a perfect touch of smoke filling a thick juicy oyster that just exploded wth flavor in my mouth. I ordered the smoked fish plate and three smoked oysters came with it. The smoked fish was also amazing and the plate came with pickled vegetables that added just the right touch when put together with the smoked white fish and soft mild white cheese that came on the plate. The smoked salmon was just as delicious with a sweet glaze over top that added a touch of richness you dont normally get with a typical smoked fish. The raw oysters came next, and I have to day, they were incredible. Thick and juicy as well, but not the same kind as the smoked oysters, being slightly smaller but just as tasty. We ended up needing two orders because one just got us started. We also had an order of the bbq oysters and this was also an immediate favorite! Its not cheap, but it is delicious!

This is my favorite oyster place in Tomales Bay. They have the best BBQ oysters, and fresh oysters. Im lazy and inept at chucking my own oysters. You can go down the street and buy a bunch of fresh oysters by the dozen but youll have to clean them, and chucking them is an art form that I dont know how to master. So I come here, and its worth not going through the hassle. Their BBQ oysters are the best. Been a couple other places on the stretch and this place kills it. They have types you can choose from but the BBQ one is the best. Also had the clam chowder and fish tacos to fill you up a bit if you want to save on $$ filling up on oysters. They are both good. Clam chowder is thick and hearty, and fish taco is moist and tasty (you get 3). The view is beautiful and plenty of outside seating with picnic tables. Some parking - better than others down the road. I always take my guests here when they are visiting the Bay Area. So worth the 1.5 hour drive. Come here! You will not be disappointed!

We tried to go to Hog Island up the road, but they were fully booked so we decided to check out Marshall instead. It was a great decision! The line was quite long - about 20min wait so find some shade. Once inside, we were amazed by all the different oyster options! SMOKED: absolutely delicious and my favorite - served on top of cream cheese on sliced baguette. BBQ: my 2nd favorite, well-spiced BBQ sauce topping with a tomato base, brings out the zang in the oysters! FRESH: very fresh oyster with lemon wedges and tabasco sauces, definitely slurp-worthy! CHORIZO: tasted ok, but the meat / oyster combination isnt my fav. We also tried the New England Clam chowder which was filling with potatoes, plenty of clams and not too heavy on the cream! The crab meat sandwich was quite bland, so skip this and go straight for the oysters!

The smoked oysters were not as expected, so skip. The BBQ oysters, tho way too tiny were very tasty. SIZE Matters; Many different sizes to oysters...Ya know. Also the 2 sandwiches,tri-tip and pulled pork. Delicious. Other reviewers talk of Wednesday dollar day and Thursday half price; Must Verify, personally ;) You enter the seated bar, but for takeout go into a second room and talk with a stunning redhead. Wish I had more time for the bowl of clam chowder and fish tacos ,eaten at many tables along the shore of Tomales Bay. Lovely location. Tables and seats on bldg edge, or at bar,Prime... Very friendly staff. Because the road was not busy, this was a much better dining location than Hog Island up the road, with a long weekend only limited menu. So buy in quantity there, but Eat Here!

We visit here at least twice a year just for oysters. Today was the first time we came on a week day. Although all the oysters on the menu are delicious, they seem tastier in flavor on the weekends. Not sure why- different cook? I preferred the bbq and raw. I will not order smoked again- just a different kind of flavor. It was not bad, just not my favorite. Clam chowder is always yummy. I tried the fish stew with chorizo- interesting. Good ginger beer. Lovely ladies at the counter.
