First of all, this is NOT your typical Mexican restaurant, so dont expect asada, al pastor, lengua and the rest of the usual Mexican meats. Instead, you can expect delicious "Tasajo" (Fire-roasted thinly sliced beef marinated and artfully dried with sea salt), flavorful "Cesina" (Fire-roasted thinly sliced pork marinated in red chile powder, smoked and artfully dried with sea salt), chorizo (Spicy sausage with smoked paprika and garlic), chicken (Fire-roasted sliced chicken marinated with orange, onion and spices), as well as tasty vegetarian options! This restaurant is great if youre craving Mexican food with a different flare, a Oaxacan flare to be exact! Their guacamole is to die for! They serve it with a mix of white and blue tortillas and after you taste it, youll never want to try any other guacamole again! (Chipotle who?) I had their most popular dish, the Tlayuda, which is a large white or blue toasted tortilla, covered with black beans, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, Oaxacan cheese (that cheese is delicious by the way!), and one of the meats or veggies listed above! Their tacos are pretty bomb too! Theyre made with fresh handmade tortillas and they all come with avocado at no extra charge! If you know about restaurants, you know that most hidden gems are little hole-in-the-wall spots! Heres one of those awesome restaurants! Ill definitely come by again!

I am so happy my friend and I tried this hidden gem! Its a quaint spot with a lot of personality. You always know a spot like this is amazing when its full of people! We started off with fresh chips and guacamole. The Tlayudas looked amazing, but my friend and I both ordered the chicken torta. We LOVED it. The toppings complimented the dish so well. It was a huge portion for an affordable price. If I ate beef I would have been alllll over the torta oaxaqueña (beef/chorizo) . Hands down the best torta either of us have ever had. Not to mention the salsas (red and green) were absolutely delicious. My friend ordered a mexican coke and I ordered a horchata. The horchata was amazing. I cannot wait to go back and try everything else on the menu.

Im not familiar with Oaxacan food, but a friend of mine wanted to try this place since its new. The ambiance was colorful, warm and artistic. The food looked almost too good to eat, but the real surprise was the burst of flavors when I took that first bite. The Tlayuda is served flat like a pizza, but tastes nothing like a pizza. My friend had the vegetarian. Mine had thinly sliced grilled steak, garlic, onions and mushrooms. There were other flavors that I couldnt distinguish. There is no way I can duplicate this at home, so Ill definitely be back. Parking was a challenge, but it was worth it. Next time, Ill order one meal to eat there and one to eat later.

Yelp rarely disappoints me and Tlayuda happened to be one of those places. My friend and I were in the area so we decided to give this 5 star restaurant a try. Like many reviewers have mentioned, service was great. Our server was super friendly and very accommodating. The food. It was average. Horchata tasted watered down and overly cinnamon-y. Tortilla for the taco was good, but pork was super dry. Mole sauce taco was pretty good, but it was nothing spectacular. I thought tlayuda was not bad until I tasted the bland and stale tortilla shell. Its supposed to be their signature dish, no?

So damn goooooooood. This little gem saved my friend and Is life. We got bombarded earlier in the day by an overcrowded taco festival that left us taco-less. After hours of frustration, Tlayuda saved our life. Be SURE to try the chorizo tacos and more importantly, Duh, the TLAYUDA. The tamarind fresca quite replenishing as well (as they kindly let us try each drink. This place will leave you feeling light on your feet as other tacos in LA leave you rethinking your life decisions lol. Viva Tlayuda well be back to try your chilequiles!y

The space is nice and quaint, but VERY welcoming. But the food is absolutely WOW !!! My wife had the Chilaquiles and I went with a burrito that was anything but standard. The quality of the meat was insane. Nice thick strips of beautifully marinated steak. And that Salsa Roja was probably the best Ive ever had. The food was so good that I added an order of their "infamous" Chicken Mole Tacos even though I was full. And yes I killed that as well. All in all this place has Great service and flat out Amazing food. Go! Go Now !!! lol

Not quite sure if Im qualified to comment on the "AUTHENTICITY" of Tlayuda L.A.. I mean, Im Mexican... But not THAT Mexican. My Spanish aint that great and Im not trilled about spicy food. But i AM competent enough to recognize great service and delicious food. This was our first visit and definitely wont be our last. I wanna bring my dad, a real Mexican, out next time to try these amazing tacos. Let him observe and judge. The food is good and the service was stellar. Anything else is just cake.

This cute place is tucked away in Hollywood. Its family owned and operated and SO DANG DELICIOUS! We had a wet burrito and horchata. You can taste that they make the horchata fresh daily and boy is it yummy! But the real star of the show was the burrito and their green sauce. Actually, all of their sauces. And they make it in house! My mouth is actually watering thinking about their salsa... Im all about support mom and pop businesses, especially when their food is tasty. Ill definitely be back!

I actually really love Garaje. The owner and employees are super nice and accommodating. The food is delicious, and they always have unique beers on tap. They only take cash, but there is an ATM inside, as well as other banks near the area. If you are going to a Giants game, this is the best place to pre-game with booze and food. Its a quick 5-10 minute walk from the ballpark. I like the seafood zapatos, but I also know the burgers and fries are killer. You pretty much cant go wrong. Check it out!

Excellent Oaxacan restaurant. Three of us split a tlayuda, two orders of tacos, a quesadilla, and chips & guacamole. The service was great, and everything we ordered was (upon request) gluten free. The food was fresh & clean: horchata in mason jars; spicy tomatillo salsa and a milder red; homemade corn tortillas and flan. Incredibly friendly service. Highly recommended.

Tried their breakfast chilaquiles and was NOT disappointed. The portions were large and the salsa is house-made (and super spicy!). Not to mention they do all-day-breakfast. Although its not in my neighborhood, the drive was totally worth it and the place was easy to find! Definitely eager to come back and try the signature tlayuda ASAP!

Went here with my parents, who can be super picky eaters, and even though they asked a ton of questions and wanted hot sauce on everything, the ladies were super friendly and happy to oblige. The food was amazing, and no matter what you decide to order, get yourself a hibiscus drink. Its light, sweet, and the perfect drink.

Great food, great service, friendliest staff. Walked in blindly to grab a bite before heading out on a long day and ended up pleased by the large portions and extremely flavourful food. Ended up getting local tips from the server on where to go while we were visiting. Will definitely come back upon returning to LA.
