The Hungry Cat is a pleasant little surprise tucked away in a cul-de-sac behind Borders Bookstore. The prices are moderately high, but the food and service are worth it. My son and I ate there on Tuesday afternoon, too late for lunch, too early for dinner for most restaurants, but fortunately for us, the Hungry Cat was serving from its limited menu. The limited menu still offered a nice array of appetizers, entrees, and desserts; in addition, several oyster and wine specials were available. We had the shrimp (peeled our own to save a few bucks :-) and a half dozen of the Wiley Point oysters as appetizers. The shrimp were large and flavorful, having been boiled and/or sauteed with some garlic, parsley, and spices. The oysters were also fresh and delicious. For our entrees, we had the Pug Burger and Lettuces with Egg, Avocado, and Pecorino. The burger was melt-in-your-mouth juicy/tasty and was served with a whopping side of fresh french fries (which reminded me of the ones served at Bouchon!). The salad, lightly dressed with vinaigrette, had a nice mix of lettuces with ample slices of ripe avocado, salty slivers of cheese, and a crumbling of eggs. Delicious! Throughout the meal, the waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive; plates were cleared quickly and we never wanted for anything. We had hoped to have room for dessert (I had my eye on the cheese plate with honey), but we were regrettably much too full. In any case, we would happily go back to Hungry Cat if we had the opportunity to do so.

Posto carino, molto curato...personale premuroso.

I had a great meal here. The prices are higher than I usually want to pay, especially the $13/margarita, but that didnt stop me from ordering lots of them because they were so damned good! I tried the pug burger and a soft-shell crab special dish. Both were delicious. The burger was fat and juicy, kinda dirty (in a good grubby way) and the fries were excellent. The crab was presented very nicely and the sauce was, to quote the waitress, "out of this world", truly a party in my mouth! The margaritas were the highlight of the night. I love margaritas and have had a lot of them from a lot of places. These were a real treat, because they made them using fresh fruits and lime juice as the mixer, and the results were delicious. I wish they were a bit taller, but ... I cant have it all. If you want to splurge and have a great meal, I recommend this place. If you like to whine about loud atmospheres or other aspects of dining ... read some of the other reviews.

Came on a date here, this place was definitely not noticeable, hidden in an alley. It was a great night to sit on the patio w/lights hanging. Ordered the fromage platter, enjoyed it. Was disappointed that the crostini, toast point were beyond charred. Crispy or even toasty was the intent, not black and burnt. So cheese and honey had to due w/out the crostini. Ordered chorizo and clams.... Great combo, there were garbanzo beans as well w/thick giant slices of toast which were very burnt on the sides. Maybe less amount of time in the toaster. Many of my clams had sand in it, maybe for future they can clean out the water that holds the clams. I love chorizo, but there was so much oil/grease from it which was perfect because my thick toasted bread soaked the majority of it up.

I love this place! I woke up the other day craving the grapefruit cooler. All of their freshly made coolers are unique, refreshing and unavailable anywhere else. Their Bloody Marys are a close 2nd behind Dukes BMs in Malibu. Foodwise, I always order the lobster roll when it is available. Yum!!! The selection of oysters are amazing. The fish dishes on the dinner menu are extremely flavorful with the perfect sauces and sides. The only thing is...I am a dessert person. Possibly having more of a selection in the sweets category would be good. Wow, I am hungry....I think I will get the pug burger with bacon, avocado and bleu cheese today....I cannot wait!!!! :) p,s, I like to eat outside on the patio when I go.

Very, very slow service. Dont come here hungry. We were seated quickly, but it took 10 minutes to get a drink order taken after I flagged down a busboy and asked him to get someone. It wasnt crowded. They charge extra for bread and only bring 4 pieces. Ordered lemonade and received 3 oz and a glass full of ice. When I asked for more, the waiter said it was perfectly measured and would be an additional charge. I told him to talk to the manager about my glass full of ice. Our main dishes took 35 min, but were at least very good. We had the grilled filet and scallop pot pie. The proportions were very good and they were both delicious. But, not planning on returning.

Im from New England, home of amazing seafood but also the home of the Kennedys. So please read the following review outloud in your best Kennedy impression (but maybe not Ted) "My fellow Raw Bar enjoyers, ask not what your seafood can do for you, ask what you can do for your sea food. This place is wonderful. The staff are very knowledgable about where the catch is from and how to enjoy the tastes of them the most. Their oysters taste as good as when any of my many wives cook me dinner and when I went I choose to eat fresh Sea Urchin/Uni straight from the shell not because it was easy, but because it was delicious. Thank you and god bless the oceans."

Made a reservation for my kids Birthday for lunch. In the Open Table notes I mentioned that we were going for the lobster. The restaurant called to confirm reservation and to let me know that the lobster they had wasnt like a "lobster dinner" which I knew already but was grateful for their honesty and decency that they would let me know. We had 2Tier with the lobster half, oysters, mussels, shrimp and caviar. We should have done 3Tier because that was so easily finished by the 3 of us. Everything was awesome! It was even better this time then the last.

I really wanted to like this place a lot. I love seafood and its highly reviewed by J. Gold, and Ive been trying to eat my way down his recommendations. But I thought the service was kind of... brusque for the price and style of restaurant, and the atmosphere of being sandwiched between Jersey Mikes and Walgreenss kind of bothered me. I wish the location were slightly less like eating in a mall food court. The food was pretty good, but I think you can get better and less expensive seafood at La Cevicheria or other places in LA.

Just returned here for another amazing dinner! This is by far my favorite restaurant ever, even when compared to Los Angeles Laundry. The best way to go is with the chefs tasting menu. The dishes that really stood out to me this time around were the uni egg, squid pho, and a5 waggery. Words cannot even describe how full and how happy eating here makes me feel. One thing we were a bit sad about is that they no longer have bacon brioche, only plain brioche. The bacon brioche was so yummy! I still love you, The Hungry Cat.
