I have been going there for the last year and it was a nice place to go even though that people are not as friendly carpets are extremely dirty and the benches AR too soft to sit on but it was a cozy place to have lunch I realized the quality is going down every time we go there and the food taste changes based on who is the chef on that day I went there with a friend today not being sure if I should my friend ordered a trout and I ordered a hamburger my hamburger was so salty that I could not eat more than a small piece I called the waiter who is the older guy being there for ages perhaps and he asked me if I want to change it I said yes give me something with no salt at all if you can so he brought me a plate with some greens call that salad I already had lost my appetite tried to have a good experience but the trout was salty too the stuffing was so salty that you thought it was a piece of salt inside were finished without any pleasure and ask for the check when the check came I was charged for the hamburger which I couldnt even touch more than the first small cut I asked the waiter and I told him that is not the matter of money but we couldnt even touch the hamburger so he goes to the manager and manager changes hamburger with a salad which is almost the same price even though the greens we got was not comparable with the salad they serve I paid and I went to the front to talk to the manager there was no manager to be found there was only a guy serving in the other dining room acting as a manager and nobody was in the front when I asked one of the waiters to call the manager he called him and he said he would be with me whenever he has time and I waited and waited and he didnt come finally I went to the restroom and came back and he told me yes I came you were not here and left and so the game I will be with you whenever I can this was the rudest and the worst customer service I have ever seen to a regular customer I will not go there anymore and I dont suggest anyone to go there horrible food and more horrible customer service Im sorry but they lost a regular customer forever

I have known of this restaurant since I was a kid and never gave it a second thought. I must have driven by a least a hundred times. When I saw it was part of dineLA I thought "why not?". I am so happy I gave it a chance. When I was a kid this place seemed so out of place. Before all the hipsters in echo park, it was this one random "fancy" French restaurant in a sea of Mexican shops, bakeries and taquerias. So out of place. Little did I know it had a long history in LA. Some of the employees have been around for some 25 years! Thats dedication. The restaurant has a very old world feel to it. Cobblestones and vines everywhere. I had reservations and waiting a good 15 mins before I was sat. For a busy Friday night it seemed fair. My server was an older man with heavy French accent. I did wait a few mins before he came by to take our food order. Again for a busy Friday night, it seemed fair. The gave us the specials of the night and told us about the dineLA prix fix menu. Once the order was put in the food came out quickly. Our entire meal was delicious. Everything I ordered I loved. The Moules Maison (mussels) were amazing. The sauce was creamy with a spicy finish. Next was the steak and fries ... It was cooked perfect. The peppercorn sauce on top was super yummy too. I kept dipping my fries in it. Lastly was the peach tart. Its made to order. It takes a few mins to get out but so worth the wait. It comes out hot. It gets this crispy caramelized texture on the outside from the syrup of the peaches. So good! I think the service could use a bit of work be cause we did sit around waiting between courses to ask for water or bread or even more drinks. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here and would recommend checking this place out. Thank you Taix for the good food and for the history lesson!

Look if you want minus the bear on the speakers and banksy on the walls and a mustachioed suspender wearing fragile looking man in a flannel and guess jeans to serve you this is not for you. However if you enjoy the finer things in life and know good food and can be bothered to put down your phone and enjoy the company of humans and the dining experience come in. Classic cuisine with classic bourgeoise French atmosphere. They might not have free wifi, they might not cater to you instagraming everything in your life, they might be an institution of LA dining- it really might be you , not everyone else pal. Chances are you are lame, underdressed, and classless. You need to take your silly ass down to a food truck and get yourself a ceviche spring roll - you are a pissant commenting on the doings of your betters. You wont get it, you never will.

We love this restaurant. The food is the best in LA. Been coming here since 1970s. A big part of the quality of Freres Taix is the presentation of the meal by the waiters. They look very professional in their white button down shirts. But the waitress Jessica on 10/08/16 was a major disappointment. She was out of uniform and dirty shoes. She did not do the basics expected of all restaurants much less at Freres Taix. She ignored us for 15 minutes, didnt greet us, didnt say the specials and greeted us with "what do you want?" She slammed the food on the table. After an hour she still didnt serve the entree. We left the place un-fed and dad. I hope the place is not going downhill

I have never been in a restaurant that called itself French with such flavorless, over wrought food. The bar still has that stale, formerly smoked in timbre to the air and atmosphere. I was expecting something with much more class and a more daring or at least, well conceived menu. What a let-down. I think that the owners and the chef need to take a long trip to France to see what French cuisine really is. The only restaurant you will find blackened fish at in France will have the label Cuisine American on the menu. Its a shame as I was really looking forward to my meal there from what I had been told.

after the below par dinner, inadequate service, muggy, cellart-like atmosphere and not so refreshing nightcap, my phone was on the blinking red battery symbol. i needed to procure a sober ride home. it was at this point my trip to france became a joke. i was denied use of an outlet, OUTSIDE, in order to not have my phone die and find a lyft, by an old, decrepit, wizardlike man. with no respect he called me out of my name, and denied me use of the outlet, said he was going to call the POH-leese. i purposely chargedd for another 45 mins and they never showed. hmph.
