This is one of, if not the best,BBQs in LA. The Chicken Dinner is pretty damn good. If you want more food, go with that. If you just want a smaller portion, get the chicken sandwich (chicken and 2 pieces of bread to make your own sandwich). The sliced beef is excellent and Im not a big beef eater. The sandwich is several slices of beef perfectly sauced up and 2 pieces of bread. Perfect lunch size. Desserts: The Peach Cobbler is fresh and my favorite. Second is the Sweet Potato Pie. Nice flavoring. Third is the Red Velvet -- Hear me out: It is just a little too sweet for me now. Great taste, huge piece, just a bit sweet for my taste. I dont know what some of these other reviewers are talking about. First, it hasnt been Leos since 2004 -- 12 years is enough time to get over that. Second, it seems to me that so-called gentrification and hipsters have made it "acceptable" to come into the community and belittle the offerings and tell us that Phillips isnt up to their liking. Get out of here with that. Finally, please stop talking about the community in such a pejorative manner. Some reviews make it sound like a war zone at Phillips. Just like with any area that isnt familiar to you, dont do anything stupid and/or careless and you likely wont have an issue

Today is Mother day, I love this place. Me and my family just got in from Vegas and didnt eat because we wanted BQQ. We got there at 5:50. I got everyone order and was in line by 5:54. I waited in line for like 8 mins and the lady told me "Do you have a ticket?" I said no but I was in line before 6pm. She says while we are close. I said but I was in line before 6pm. She says "We are close". We was so disappointed. I can understand if I was there after 6 but that was not the case. Horrible Customer Service and this is not the first time I had issue with this lady.

I come for the bar-b-que, which is great! I always order a 1/2 rack of baby back ribs with mixed (mild/hot) sauce. The sides are marginal - not homemade except probably the greens. With the exception of the guy chopping up the meat, everyone moves at almost a snails pace. The order taker is polite but doesnt offer a smile.Too often a long wait to order and to receive your order. They need to staff up, especially around holidays. Lastly, if theyre not going to answer the phone, at least have an message recording!

My favorite spot for BBQ! Such cheap pricing too! The people who work there are very nice and serice is always quick! My favorite is the BBQ pulled pork on the wheat bun! I love the sweet sauce. You have the option of changing the sauce to half spicy/half sweet or all spicy. I love the slaw! I always get the biggest container I can buy. It taste as if my grandma made it. Whenever I am in the neighborhood I grab some food from this spot! Please try this place out!

The best Barbeque in town was not so good today (I have been eating Phillips Barbeque since 1985). There was too much black pepper, and the watery sauce could not be called a sauce today. This will not be my last time at Phillips, but please go back to your old sauce -- this has been one of my greatest pleasures in Los Angeles, Phillips Barbeque sauce! Thank you For the record, I gave a Poor rating today -- It was not Phillips great taste!

Best beef ribs in town. Simple, basic BBQ sauces. I wont get into arguments over what or whose sauces are best, thats a matter of personal preference. The ribs are meaty and fall-off-the-bone tender, and whoever is buying the beef is hand-picking the meat for quality, which is more than I can say for most places. Friendly (if slightly slow-ish) customer service. A tad on the pricy side, but youre definitely getting your moneys worth.

The rack of twelve juicy baby back ribs my pops and I split made for a damn good lunch and new place to remember to make it back to if I find myself starving on Crenshaw again. The hot sauce wasnt overbearing and the wait not a problem short of five minutes which was just enough time to build up the digestive juices in our stomachs triggered from all of the salvating we silently were doing.

Went there on a Sunday afternoon. Got the pork rib dinner. The meat was a little on the tough side and the mild sauce was just ok. You will be racing home to get some floss to pull the meat from between your teeth bc it was so darn tough. I have had way better other places. The beans left something to be desired, threw them away. Dont think I will be going back anytime soon.

Ive heard so much about this place and finally made it by. Everything was so so. Truly disappointed in the peach cobbler which only had a top crust and was very watery. Truly makes me miss my Nanny who cooked the hell outta some soul food. Her cobbler was to die for. Still on the hunt for some fantastic soul food.

I have to drive from Calabasas Calif that is 70 mils round trip to get this treat. My friend T.J who works there always has my sample platter that has all the meats and cost $130.00. I also buy extra BBQ sauce, desserts and all is well worth it. Phillips BBQ and my girl T.J definitely have a 7 ft friend.

I honestly dont understand the hype. Everything to me tasted like regular BBQ stuff (I had the rib tips and something else) I did enjoy their potato salad Im very particular when it comes to that but I was not impressed with their BBQ beans. To much BBQ sauce or whatever, not enough beans.

Ok. Service was excellent. My daughter ordered a vegetable plate and it left a lot to be desired. A little bit of veggies on a large bed of rice. For starters, rice is a grain and not a vegetable. So we felt grossly underserved at a restaurant that is at the top of everyones list.

The dark skin cashier was really rude, unprofessional, and intimating. The bar b que is average. I did not want to bar be que for the July 4th, so the day after I went to Phillips Bar b que on Crenshaw Blvd. The owner should hire friendly staff. This woman was very nasty.
