This is certainly a popular place with the brunch crowd, and its thankfully far away from the packed streets of Silverlake, Hollywood, and DTLA- the usual brunch hangouts. Theres even a parking lot offering metered 2-Hour parking just around the corner from the restaurant. The place is spacious, but usually full for brunch and dinner- theyre closed during the mid-afternoon period on the weekends- and you have your pick of the bar, a table in the center of the restaurant, or a cozy booth seat against the back wall. I can only speak for the brunch menu, but you have quite a lot to choose from fresh salads to hearty breakfast sandwiches and wild mushroom & egg scrambles. The things to get, of course, are the dishes everybodys talking about. The Moroccan-Spiced Fried Chicken ($14): Comes with Harisssa Aioli & Lime. Amazingly crispy and tender with the perfect blend of spices and lime flavor. And they do not skimp on the portions, either. You can can a sizable meal out of one order, even though it doesnt come with anything but the sauce & lime. The French Toast ($13): Because who can do a proper brunch without French Toast? This one, I have to say, while delicious and perfectly-cooked- slightly crispy while being fall-apart fluffy towards the center- is a bit disappointing. For a whopping $13 you only get on medium-sized slab of toast. The berries, ricotta whipped cream, maple syrup, & butter certainly make it decadent, though. Id say its worth trying once if you want to splurge. They have plenty of cocktails & wine, if thats how you like to start off the weekend mornings, and a couple of sides to make your meal more customizable. Overall, not a bad joint to try out once in a while if you want to get away from the hipster brunch crowd for a bit.

Loved the space! Didnt realize until after we left that there was an outdoor patio dining area. It also leads to a back alley for easy access to residential parking on N 57th. The food was however the star of the dinner. Had the baby romaine w/blue cheese and steak tartare toast to start. BALM!!! So good! We paired it with one of their signature cocktails, The Arroyo if I recall. It was a mezcal and whiskey based citrusy drink (we ordered it twice). We then got the pork cheek cheek pasta and an order of the Manila clams. Both delicious as well. Good food and great company led to a 2 hour dinner. Stuffed as I was I wouldnt let them take the plates away as I kept picking. Russel, one of the partners, was kind enough to provide for a couple of their desserts. So they brought out this mascarpone cheesecake and turtle pie with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. They didnt help with the food coma settling in. But they surely didnt disappoint either. Situated next to Highland Park Bowl I think they did a nice job with the ambiance of the restaurant. Cant wait to brunch here too as Ive heard good things of brunch.

Atmosphere: Trendy hipster and romantic date night! Or even for a girls hangout. Cute and classy. We sat in the outside area in an alley with christmas lights! Food: Came here after happy hour looking for some pasta! The pasta was amazing and their citrus salad was very refreshing! The dishes are meant to share and a little pricier than usual. The clams were great. Drinks: we bought a bottle of red wine which was affordable...since their other drinks or glasses are pretty pricey, it would be better to get a bottle for a group. They also have a speakeasy next door in the outdoor patio side thats very cute! you can bring the drinks to your table as long as you pay there at the speakeasy. Service: Great! she came often to check on us! Would recommend to any romantic date night, girls night, or just a catch up night. Maybe you can grab a HH drink in the local bars around like eta (accross the street) or catch bowling at highland park bowl (down 2 or 3 bars) and then wrap it up with fries or pasta here to finish your conversation :)

First visit review- Like most of the new places that pop up all over Figueroa and York, Cafe Birdie is packed full of charm and atmosphere. The food, however, is not what I would expect from a restaurant with such small menu. I have come to associate small menu with the Best of from the kitchen. our favorite was the fried chicken. Crusty is crunchy and flaky and the chicken is moist. Burrata toast was greasy the the Uni on top really didnt work well. Black Pepper Tagliatelle was beautifully seasoned but the noodle was too thick. Cafe Birdie nails the cocktail, however. This is definitely a good place for a romantic night out where food might not necessary be the main course. One can get drunk and full just by the ambience. Front of the restaurant is very attentive and friendly. I am looking forward to a follow up visit in a few weeks.

Beautifully decorated interior. Great for a date night. Excellent and unique choice of beers. The only thing is that a few of our dishes were incredibly salty....Not sure if that was on purpose or an accident but my lips were literally becoming dried out by all the salt. Other than the saltiness, the food was otherwise really good. We want to give the food another shot...Would definitely come for the drinks and the ambiance alone. Highland park is blowing up with great bars and restaurants these days.

Food was good but nothing you cant get somewhere else. What struck me as memorable was the outstandingly poor service they had - inattentive servers with attitude, an unaccommodating head chef with strange rules about what customers can order, and orders that were missed then took 3 follow ups before it arrived. For a place whose fried chicken was basically just chicken tenders, they act like the customer should feel grateful to be able to eat there. No thank you, never again.

The food was fine, but none of the vegetarian dishes we order were particularly notable. Nice place to go if youre a local. The atmosphere is warm - great lighting and a comfortable place to hang out for a leisurely dinner. •Mushroom Toast was my favorite, •Grain Salad was good, but served cold - it would have been better at room temperature or warm and •Black Pepper Tagliatelle was also fine but not that flavorful - I would order something else next time.

Very tasty food but with these new trendy places comes the higher prices. Got the delicious tartar and gnocchi but found the pork a bit tough for my own taste. Great service and good drinks. Great to have nearby but just wish they could lower the prices at these new places, makes it more a celebration place than a place to just be able to grab dinner randomly.

Delicious! The Moroccan fried chicken is a must, chicken is tender, juicy with a flavorful crispy crust and comes with spiced aioli. The breakfast sandwich and mushroom scramble were great but the fried chicken was the star. Dont forget to order the bread with butter and jam, that was excellent as well!

Stopped by with a few friends and enjoyed the shared plate type dining. I recommend about six plates for a group of four. Beet Salad had such a great flavor and all of the toast were delicious.

Surprise find in Highland Park. Food is really good, enjoyed in a relaxed and thought out location. Will come back for dinner and their crafted libations.
