If you like your sushi joints traditional and experienced, this is the place. The couple that used to own the venerable Kinokawa over on Wardlow are back, taking over the old Koyo spot in Signal Hill. What a makeover! Theyve re-done the whole place, inside and out, and its a lovely, peaceful slice of sushi heaven in Long Beach. Very good food and very good service. I had an order of the uni and yellowtail sushis and the Kashiwa Roll (CA roll with salmon and shrimp with the whole thing fried tempura-style). Everything was great, especially the uni, so fresh and delectable! My two lunch companions had the very generously-sized bento lunch specials, with teriyaki, tempura, and CA rolls. Huge. At $17 its not the cheapest eats in town but its good quality stuff. If you were a fan of the old Kinokawa or just a fan of good old-fashioned sushi, you must visit!

Ok nice decor, sushi bar, large menu, and sashimi, but NO one else in whole place at 6:30 on a Thursday evening. Whats keeping them away? Sushi was ok, but not inspired, so just run of the mill. I like my sushi served fresh,by a Susi chef not afraid of creative ways to present same. Freshness would seem to favor the busy, 2 deep, sushi bar. The hirame (halibut) was Not fresh, as promised. All the sushi seemed destined for rolls, where all sushi places allocate their not-so-fresh stuff. Not spoiled, mind you, just not as Fresh as it was the week before.

This is without question the highest quality sushi you will find. Fish are selected from Japan, Spain, Hawaii, Pacific northwest, New England and local sources. If it is not excellent quality they will not serve it. The owners are Japanese and always involved in your food preparation. You can request off menu traditional Japanese foods as well like nato, sato imo, yama imo dishes, variations of chawan mushi, dobin mushi, etc. It is worth the price difference compared to other bars that cater to only what Americans recognize.

When our family coming from Monterey, CA traveled around Long Beach area and were looking for a Japanese restaurant in Long Beach, we found this "Kashiwa" Japanese restaurant. We were very surprised that all food are delicious! Because we are native Japanese, we can know that all taste are authentic Japanese food taste! Moreover, the staffs and chef of this restaurant are very kind. The prices are inexpensive. We will definitely go back to the restaurant again and enjoy authentic Japanese food!

Been frequenting Kashiwa at least once a week for two years now and I have to say, I never had a bad bite, the place is clean and inviting, the food is great in general and excellent when it comes to Sushi. The servers are wonderful and friendly, the Sushi chefs are top notch and as friendly as can be. This is one of the best Japanese restaurants Sushi bars in So-Cal.

After reading a few flowing reviews of Kashiwa, I decided to visit and satisfy my sushi craving. I was not disappointed, as the sushi was delicious, and prepared with fresh tasty ingredients. Additionally, the service and atmosphere was AMAZING. I would highly recommend checking this fine establishment out if you are in the mood for Japanese.

Came at noon on a Saturday and had the best Omakase lunch Ive ever had. Real Edo-style sushi prepared by Kei, a talented and charming master. My wife had a rainbow roll, snow crab sashimi and a seaweed salad, all of which were excellent. A wonderful, traditional Japanese feel to the place -- a real high point and we will be back.

We love this restaurant. The food is excellent. Last night we brought a friend from out of state. We each had the 5 course omakase (chefs choice) dinner. It included sashimi, sushi, and roasted cheek. Everything was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. I cant wait to go back again soon.

Best real Japanese sushi restaurant in long beach They do not have a lot of different sushi rolls because they are using good quality fishes!!! They do not need put some sauce on sushi and sushi rolls to cheat on customers. People should go to this place If you would like to have real sushi

We love this place! We are into pure food, no sauces and mayo rolls. Fresh fish, mostly Sashimi, thats all we want in a sushi place, and KASHIWA is just perfect. Very consistent quality. My only complaint: The service can be very cold and uninviting.

Live this place, its a hidden gem. The sushi is amazing and the sushi chefs are great. I usually just have them give me whatever they want and its always awesome. I come here every month when I am in town

These long-time itamae-sans from Long Beach are amongst the most polite and skilled of any in this cuisine. This sushi maven has always been remembered by the owners in the hushed tones of yore

Had a bad experience here.. Sushi was very very fishy, not very good. Staff was really nice, service was good, hot tea at the end, but just didnt enjoy that sushi at all.

One of the best Sushi restaurants in Long Beach. Its easily better than 95% of Sushi restaurants in LA that are mostly operated by Thai or Korean chefs.
