My husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary at NINE-TEN Restaurant. It is located in the Grande Colonial Hotel which was built in 1913. The restaurant has a very modern decor. Service was top-notch! And we were treated to the food and nectar of the gods! We had the three course market menu with wine pairings. Our server and sommelier, Matt, brought out each course with expert rhythm. He paired a very nice, sparkly German Riesling with my first course, the Braised Oxtail & Sunchoke Tortellini, the bubbles got the meal off on a high note, and the food was pure magic! For my second course he paired a very nice, not too sweet, Pinot Noir with my Braised Prime Beef Short Rib. The presentation of the plate was a work of art! The ribs practically melted in my mouth; and the vegetables were arranged in a beautiful sculpture on top. If the feelings of the chef went into the food, then, he is in love! I admit I find a nice Port to be irresistible, so I asked Matt which dessert he suggested to go with my 20 year old Tawny Port, and he paired it with the Half Baked Chocolate Cake, a delightful concoction of melt in your mouth chocolate cake, carmel sauce and vanilla ice cream, at this point we were totally on Cloud NINE-TEN! This wasnt just a meal, it was an Event… a symphony of culinary delight!

This used to be my favorite restaurant in La Jolla. I raved about it to my wife so she took me out to dinner here for a special occasion. Despite the fact that there were only four tables filled in the restaurant, the service was incredibly slow. Overall, the food was good but not as I remembered it to be. Perhaps the restaurant is under new management. The service between courses took an inordinate amount of time. In general, the service was highly inattentive. To top it all off, the restaurant was unable to process a credit card and the waiter behaved as though we were trying to pass him a bad check. I guess he liked my platinum AMEX better, I dont know. We were made to feel as though we were trying to skip out on a hefty bill. We contacted the credit card bank who informed us that no transactions had been attempted on the card. When we proffered that perhaps it was their terminal at the restaurant, we were told theyve had no problems with other peoples cards. My wife and I are both professionals and we understand and recognize good vs. atrocious service when we see it. The gap between my expectation and the reality of the experience at a restaurant has never been so vast as tonights unacceptable encounter. We will be escalating this to the hotel management.

Taste: 5 Value: 4 Service: 5 I came here during the Spring restaurant week in SD with my girlfriend (~$40 pp with $15 wine pairing). I got the wine pairing, and she got two glasses of wine, one of which was from Mt. Eden Vineyards. Appetizer: I got the lobster ravioli, and she got the butternut squash soup. The lobster ravioli was pretty good, although I wish there were a bit more. The butternut squash soup was okay, but I would have preferred more butternut squash flavor and less of the chorizo. Entree: I got the beef, and she got the scallops. The beef was very well-cooked and very tender, but it didnt stand out to me. The scallops were okay. Dessert: I got the key lime panna cotta and she got the dark chocolate cream. The panna cotta was amazing, especially with the tapioca. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The dark chocolate cream was also very good, although it was a bit too much chocolate for my taste. Service was very good, and Id come here again. Overall, it was definitely worth the restaurant week price. Probably would have given 4.5 stars, but I had to round down because it was the dessert that really shined.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by having a "Mercy of the Chef" 5-course dinner here. It was perfect. We were seated in the outdoor terrace where we could see the sunset and we had the terrace to ourselves pretty much the whole night. Service was impeccable with that right balance of being attentive and thoughtful, but also allowing us to have our own space. For the "Mercy of the Chef" dinner, it was unique in that we each got different dishes, so although it was technically a 5-course meal, we ended up tasting about 12 different dishes between the two of us over the course of 3 hrs. All very reasonably priced. This chef creates California/Asian inspired dishes so we had plenty of fresh produce and seafood, with just the right amount of meat dishes sprinkled in. I really cannot believe that it has taken almost 5 years to discover this gem of a spot! I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking to have a special meal and is in the San Diego area.

I felt rich to sit down here during late morning on a Sunday. Right above the restaurant is a diamond graded classy hotel (saw the diamond plaque on my way to the bathroom) that themes through: dark stained wood bar-- i swear there was some background classical music, and there had to have been a chandelier somewhere. Bottom line is i felt so cooth and rich there i wanted to say "pass the grey poupon" all day. Employees there were so nice and super customer servicey. My gf and i stopped here only for a drink while waiting for our table at the nearby "the cottage" restaurant. We sat outside in the back to enjoy the hilltop view of the establishments below, and the small peek of the ocean in the background. Regretfully I only drank water, but the virgin bloody mary she had was orgasmic... I thought it was good myself! I imagine it would be a great dinner place for an anniversary or maybe a 7th to 10th date place-- youd definitely get some major points!

This has been one of our to go spots in La Jolla for almost 8 years now. Every single time we have been here, opted to dine in the bar/lounge area, where the atmosphere is a bit more casual and laid back. It does get crowded, especially during the killer happy hour, so get here early. The wine and beer selection is great as is the food. Have tried everything from the burger, to the short rib panini and charcuterie plates. Favorites have been the hamachi tartar and the rabbit pasta. There are no ocean views, but when the food is this good, who needs the ocean? Cant wait to come back soon!

Pretty good burger, and good selection of beers. Went here after a round of golf with buddies recently, and was impressed with the waitress, she knew the menu very well, and the beer selection as well. The meal itself took a while to come out, so we were a little disappointed at that, but other than that, the service was great, and the food was very good. We would go here again. I should mention that all of the staff was very friendly as well.

The flavours, the textures, and the presentation were in perfect harmony. Never before in Canada, Europe or the United States have I ever had such a perfect meal. The gluten free bread is to die for! The short ribs and lamb have left aftershocks of flavours dancing in my memory. The culinary genius here could not be better. You will not be disappointed, except in your future search to find a better restaurant tomorrow.
