Growing up on the east coast, Chinese Food was a lot like pizza places. Each place might make the food a little differently, but it was generally the same - and it was good! My family would dine-in or order Chinese take-out almost once a week and I grew to crave some of my favorite dishes. I was incredibly surprised when I moved to San Diego to find how few Chinese Food restaurants there were. And the ones I did find, did not prepare the dishes the way I was accustomed to. Then, by happenstance, I stumbled on Mandarin House. As I sat there eating all my favorite dishes, prepared just the way I liked them (and many times better!), I felt like I was warped back to the east coast sharing a bunch of plates with my family again. Not only was the food well-made and delicious, the dining experience really exceeded my expecations. I remember some places on the east coast I would prefer to order take-out than dine-in. Not here. The staff are very welcoming, attentive, kind, and really funny. The restaurant is cosy, well decorated, and provides a relaxed environment for sharing dinner with friends and family. I honestly cant say a bad thing about it. This place really is a gem. I only wish I found it sooner!

Kind of disappointing. For starters... we ordered take out the moogoo gai pan and the sesame chicken, each was supposed to come with its own egg fried rice. what we got for $31.00: 1 large fried rice that looked and tasted like it was just tossed around on a hot plate in soy sauce. Very bland and plain and NO EGG whatsoever - not good. The sesame chicken pretty good, tasty. The moogoo gai pan was decent enough. Tender white meat chicken with some tasty vegetables in a flavorful sauce. It was less than we expected and the fried rice...nope. We will probably not go back even tho its very close to our home. we will continue our search for Chinese food. This place is just NO Silver Dragon. Hey Mandarin House....Google "Mar Far chicken & pink sauce" and "pork fried rice"! You may want to incorporate this into your menu! its Fuqin AMAZEBALLS!

I have rarely experienced service this unapologetically terrible. Our party of five showed up for dinner (admittedly on Dec. 25) at 5:05 pm and were told that there would be a 20-25 minute wait. We were not seated until 6:20 -- and even so, only after we made ourselves extremely visible to the personnel at the front desk. When a restaurant is this slammed, they ought to be honest about it, and they also ought to be squeezing people into tables when they can. We watched as parties of four were called ahead of us again and again and had to beg for a table. When we were seated, we waited 15 minutes while trying to flag down someone to place our order; at that point we gave up and left. No customer ought to be treated with such indifference. This restaurant doesnt care about its customers; we certainly wont be back.

Ordered the cashew nut chicken dish with fried rice and having eaten and thoroughly enjoyed Chinese cuisine all over the world (including China) I have never been disappointed and certainly not as disappointed as here. The chicken pieces were far too soft and consisted mostly of cartilage and fat. There was not one single vegetable. Nothing wrong with the cashew nuts but the entire dish was covered with a sweet sauce that just took over. Basically a really, really bad KFC copy. The fried rice was bland and lukewarm. Fast and friendly service and generous servings, but overall nothing short of a horrible experience in my opinion.

Im not Asian but thanks to my wife I have a fine knowledge when it comes to Asian cuisine ranging from Thai to Japanese but this restaurant doesnt not pas par when it comes to Chinese food. The chicken was great tho thats why Im giving it a two star. And the wait time is terrible. It should not take 50 minutes for me to get my food of two dishes. This restaurant has also proven to me that there are not good Chinese eateries in San Diego. Not to mention the lack of manners at the register. I am taking the chow mein home to make it into a real Asian dish. Thanks for saving me a trip to the grocery market.

If you want a great Chinese dinner, the Mandarin House is the place to go. I have been to other Chinese restaurants in San Diego and none compare to the Mandarin House. There is good parking out front, on the side, and out back. This is a must for me! I also enjoy the fact that its an authentic Asian family that run this restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the portions are more than I can eat at one sitting, so for the price of 1 entree, I get 2 meals out of it! Try the Orange Chicken is my favorite!

Rude waiter! It was closing time so he stood there for half an hour to make sure we finished our food! And in the end we had some leftovers which we intended to get packed and take back home he came and arranged the serving bowls on each other and took away before we could say anything! And believe me there was lot of food left. Later on pissed of at him we gave a poor tip, he spilled the water all over the table and left!! The food is good but I wont come back because of the waiter!!

With the lack of Chinese food in the PB area - I decided to head over to this place. Walked in to pick up a simple take-out order. As a customer, I was the only person saying thank you. Staff was pretty rude, and the place wasnt even busy. Food was about a 2/5. Id choose Panda over this. Sorry guys, hate writing reviews, and especially negative reviews, but... Youre in the service industry. Put an effing smile on and say thank you to your customer... Sorry not sorry.

With the departure of China Inn from Pacific Beach, Mandarin House is the only option left for PBcians to get their Chinese fix (barring fast food options) without making the journey to Convoy. The standout from our meals here was the sizzling lamb platter, a great dish to liven up your meal with a large party, both with flavor and flare. Its a bit pricier for the seafood items than were used to, like our beloved honey walnut shrimp, but all of the food was tasty!

Some of the most underwhelming Chinese food Ive ever had. I had the curry chicken and fried rice, which was okay, but it just felt really old school. As if the cook was really phoning it in. I can see why they closed the Bankers Hill locale. It does have a full bar and a TV to watch college football, but I cant see anyone really spending any serious time here.

We ordered soup, egg rolls, and three entrees to share among the six of us. The Hot & Sour soup was poor, the egg rolls were over-cooked, the white steamed rice was no to our liking and one of our three entrees was not what we ordered. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was OK barring the wrong dish (ordered Orange Beef - received Orange Chicken).
