I have been going to Knowlwoods since the 70s when Dad would through us in the back of the Country Squire wagon and haul us to the Yorba Linda Store when it was gravel and picnic benches, a memory I used to enjoy sharing with out of towners I would take for a burger. The last time I tried to eat at Knowlwoods in Irvine was roughly 5 yrs ago and I will never go to another Knowlwoods as long as I live. I went in to the usual experince ordering my bacon burger and onion rings and grabbed a both. So when I received my order I did something you usually dont do. Most people lift the bun and add a condiment or remove an unwanted vegy. I picked up the buger patty and upper bun all together and what was sitting there was a fithy disgusting mound of curly black hair! I have no understanding why the cooks or server would find it amusing to commit a felony by adding Hair from an obvious part of the anatomy. I prompty and vocally requested my refund and had a whole group of unsupervised employees looking at me like they didnt speak english. Unbeleivable and I left starving still. Unacceptable and a felony.

The Grilled Salmon Sandwich is topped with lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce on a French roll. The grilled salmon itself is outstanding. You could easily serve it as an entrée with some sautéed vegetables on the side. The seasoning on the fish brings out the delicate flavor without overpowering it. For a place known for burgers, this is an awesome surprise. Thumbs up, way up! The Irish Nachos are actually French fries smothered with cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and bacon bits with a side a homemade ranch dressing. I love this! The fries are fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The cheese, green onions, and bacon made a great combination. This reminds me of potato skins with ranch instead of sour cream in more manageable bites. The homemade ranch dressing is thick and definitely tastes homemade. You can taste all of the herbs and the buttermilk in the background. No bottled stuff here! Thumbs up, way up!

Knowlwood Restaurant is located in an old, historic blacksmith shop built in 1909. The restaurant was first on opened in 1957 by Roy and Faye Knowlton and Gene Wood. Its the home of "The Worlds Best Hamburger" as patrons have claimed, but my favorite is their breakfast which has become a local institution. Inside the restaurant you can still see the old backsmith forge or have lunch in the old toolroom. There is an old farm truck, equipment, and original artifacts used in the decor of the large barn. Old Town Irvine is one of the best perserved historic structures on the Irvine Ranch, and Knowlwood is a great place for a good juicy hamburber with a little bit history on the side.

This place has a lot of charm. It feels almost like its out of the old west. The burgers have a very distinct taste and their breakfast is really good. Dont come here for something fancy or for "The best burger in the world." My quotes, not theirs, although they boast something very similar. Bottom line, Ive had better burgers, but I cant say Ive been in a better general purpose, non-Dennys, non-IHOP kind of place. Its a great place to come with the family. Kids get a kick out of the old skool arcade games and their is even a semi-private room if you can grab it.

I hadnt been to Knowlwood for a long time. I will never go again. I have ordered the fish & chips many times before & it was a nice portion & delicious. This time the pieces of fish were more like fish sticks. The facility is really run down. When we sat in the booth, we sunk down & could feel the springs. When we moved to another table, we could see a booth where they tried to re-upholster the bench, but it was not a job well down. Very disappointing. We used to enjoy dining at Knowlwood.

Cute place, its a former blacksmith warehouse. Breakfast is average. The chicken fried steak is good. The homestyle potatoes are just ok, I think they put onion powder in them which gives them a slightly off taste. The biscuits are too dense, and the country gravy is too floury. The pancakes have a nice taste but theyre a bit rubbery, which is indicative of over mixing the batter. The place is good for kids though because they have arcade games, air hockey, etc

They do have some of the best burgers Ive had. Great place that has been around since the late 50s. The kids like coming here because of the games. They serve a great breakfast, I just had the Chorizo Breakfast burrito and it was very good. If you have their burger, try it with the creamy mustard....very good, very messy but very good.

If you like the "Hat or Famers Boyz" youre going to love this place. Hat taste with Farmers Boyz prices. I couldnt decide on a Famous Hamburger or a pastrami sandwich and the lady taking my order suggested that I get them both in one. It was delicious. I really recommend this place if you want to get the best and most for your buck.

I had the dinner with the filet, which was very good but not fantastic. I started with their chopped salad which was only so-so, as was their bread. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding, it was good but not great. So, in sum, a good meal, nothing to complain about, but nothing to write home about either.

Cute restaurant that used to be a blacksmith shop back in the day. Theyve preserved some of the old school charm with the decor, including an old pickup truck turned into a breakfast bar. Food and service are good. We were here for breakfast and had the chicken fried steak (good) and pancakes (great)!

Tasty food at great prices. This place is huge so there is always plenty of seating. Their Frisco burger is delicious. The only draw back with this location is that they are rebuilding the street on Sand Canyon, so getting there involves sitting in traffic, usually. Totally worth it though.

Quirky location with a fun vibe. The menu is large and probably has some diamonds in the rough. Their famous burger is just average and unremarkable. Good prices and portions. I will keep coming back to find said diamonds.

Wish theyd serve breakfast all day. Had the burger with various bell peppers, SO delicious. Hubby had fish & chips, it was just ok. The fish was good, the fries were hot but not crunchy at all. Very good meal nonetheless!!!

Sadly disappointing. We chose Knowlwood over the Dennys right next door for breakfast. Hash browns under cooked, sourdough toast over toasted and dry even with butter and English muffin under toasted.

The service and the food are consistently good....not always the case for a larger chain type restaurant. I only wish there was one closer.

The food I good and reasonably priced. The staff could be a little more attentive and courteous but over all it was a good restaurant.
