This is so far the best place for New England clam chowder in the Bay Area, plus you dont have to brave the tourists and high prices in SF to eat here. Their prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get, especially when you order soup/chowder its filled to the brim. Its home style goodness tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life. My husband loves their Manhattan clam chowder here too! Definitely a diamond in the rough. And their calamari is fried to perfection here, crunchy breading and easy to chew calamari on the inside. Next time, Ill have to make sure to get something else other than my go tos here (Boston clam chowder & calamari). I saw what other patrons got and it looks so delicious. Update: I had their fried oysters & chips.. big fat tasty oysters, son! Fried scallops are plenty but a bit on the dry side... I wouldnt suggest this unless you dont mind dry scallops.

Watch your bank account when eating at this restaurant!! While on a business trip, I ate at Ketch Joannes (nearly four months ago). They posted my payment to my account as a "debit pending." They then decided not to take the payment out until nearly four months later. It showed up on my account, so I assumed it was paid but due to their failure to confirm the transaction it apparently "disappeared" after I had viewed my account. When I called to speak with a manager about the issue, I was told they didnt have a manager on the premises. They also informed me that they never have a manager on the premises. I left my name and number so we will see if anyone calls me back.

For being right next to the ocean you would think the food would be fresher, but its not. On top of that, they give you soda from the can (I had a diet, which was expired) and the waitress check on us twice, so I dont think she wanted us to order anything else (like an alcoholic beverage to wash down the salty seafood). I think I would have paid the extra $30 to go to the two-story restaurant around the corner, it looked like a better atmosphere as well as a better menu. (It had much better views of the ocean) Overall, for 2 adults and 1 child we paid $70, including tip. So save yourself from this place; if you can afford this place go to the other one around the way.

We have been to Ketch Joannes Restaurant & Harbor Bar several times since first discovering it in December 2012. Although several months pass before we are able to return the food remains outstanding & the service is awesome thanks to PHYLLIS - she remembers with a smile & cheerful welcome each time. She makes Ketch Joannes SPECIAL its like seeing a great friend & her excellent service just makes it that much more enjoyable. She always has our back, checking on our needs. PHYLLIS we cant wait to see you again soon. This hangout has EXCELLENT SERVICE, TY PHYLLIS, GREAT FOOD,& GREAT MALE BARTENDER (love your mustache)

As a former local, Ketch Joanne is a place we return every trip back "home". Its not fancy and its not touristy, it does have great food and good people. Definitely start with the clam chowder, and dont be afraid to ask for a little Tabasco if you want to spice it up. The fresh catch is always amazing, we like to it with the garlic parmesan sauce. If salmon is in season, boy are you in luck! I have NEVER had salmon as fresh, soft and delicious as at K.J. (as a foodie thats saying something!). Also, dont be afraid to go to the bar area and chat up some of the local fishermen, they have fantastic stories!

Was walked into by a male server & had to wait at least 5 minutes before a server came to our table. The prices dont seem very reasonable to me as previous reviews have suggested; however, the food was decent & plentiful. I got fish & chips $15.95, a cup of Boston clam chowder $4.95 & hubby got the grilled Dungeness crab sandwich $20.95 + $3 to add fries. The server was helpful when it was time for the to go box, offering a lid for the cocktail sauce & bringing an extra cup of tartar sauce. Not a bad little place to stop on our way home from the Davenport Roadhouse where we spent our anniversary.

ok food...kind of $$$...not so good service. 10 minute wait turned into 20 minutes cause hostess couldnt double task and took our name wrong. waitress was ok, checked on us once. We ordered fish and chips and a sandwich which were served in a timely manner. Both dishes had good portions. We ordered a sprite w/vodka and a bloody Mary, both drinks were good. Not a bad place to check out if you are in the neighborhood, but wouldnt go out of way to go there specifically.

Very cozy atmosphere. Nice fire inside. Staff down to earth. Like going to your Moms for dinner. White Chowder is some of the best Ive had. House Salad with Crab is just right and good portion of crab. Get the Brownie for desert with Ice Cream. Its huge! And if you feel like a drink, the bar is right next door on premise. Id definitely come back! HMB youve got a gem here!

Never had a bad meal here. The seafood dishes are always phenomenal and everything fried is done to perfection. The clam chowder of both varieties is excellent and if you like squid try the calamari steak sandwich. This is my go-to spot for a fun and satisfying meal on the coast.

We came through here at the end of January. Had a crab sandwich and fish & chips... sandwich was cold and fish was soggy and had a weird breading. The fries werent even good. Cute fish shaped plate though... We had the same meals for lunch at Miramar and they were WAY better!

Good food, had the calamari and chips and the shrimp and crab sandwich. Both were good, the seafood tasted fresh and overall everything tasted really good. Service its not the greatest but the food more than makes up for it.

Great breakfasts and quick service. We ate outside and this time the waitress did not forget us. Havent been there in almost a year since we were totally forgotten after we were seated. This time was so much better.

An amazing burger! Prices are very fair. Got my bang for my buck. My wife ordered tea and they had a pretty nice set up on how they serve the tea. If Im in Half Moon bay again, Im coming back here! Great service too.

Mediocre food. The chowder is a cream of potato soup, a thick, greyish goo with no discernible pieces of fish and no clams. A $60 lunch for two with non-alcoholic drinks, no specials and a view of the parking lot.

We were here on a Sat afternoon but it wasnt busy. We waited 10mins before anyone even said hi. However! We ordered drinks and appetizers, and the former were hella strong. I couldnt even finish mine.
