Sorry folks, but had to bring a bit of honesty to this restaurant. I hope my words are used to help the restaurant and their staff, because Id really like to see non-chain establishments succeed. Lets start with the bad (horrible), then move to the good. SERVICE: 1 Star. Literally the worst service Ive had in all my dining experiences. We were a party of 4. Put our name in around 5:45pm and then went down the street to have a drink while we waited - quoted a 2+ hour wait time. At around 7pm I gave a call and was told "your table will be ready in 10 minutes! Youre the next on the list!" So we hurried and finished our drinks and walked on to the steakhouse where we waited...and waited...and waited. It was unreal! 57 minutes later we were seated. I could have had another glass of wine in a nice atmosphere instead of waiting in the entrance of this teeny restaurant! (The bar was packed or we would have shoved ourselves in there). Once seated, our waitress (younger skinny blonde gal) was rude and unskilled at best. Took our orders (wine, some bread and water to start) and we waited...and waited...and watched as the two tables (sat after us but 7 minutes) next to us were promptly served while we waited...and waited (see a theme?!) Anyway, finally realized that the service was not going to be the highlight of the evening. The FOOD: 5 Stars. Amazing! So pleasantly surprised, we will definitely be going back. We each started with a salad which were very large sized and flavorful. Entrees were: filet, halibut, swordfish (special of the night) and the prime rib, along with a few side dishes. Each were fantastic! The fish were cooked perfectly and not *fishy* at all (trust me, Im from Seattle and have eaten my weight in fish over the years). I believe the men when they said the steaks were on par with Flemings and Ruths Chris. Bottom Line: 3 Stars because the services was the worst in the industry. I hope they fix this because the food was delightful! Will return for the food and cross fingers that service has improved.

Review for happy hour only! Im not a steak fan, but I am a happy hour fan! No doubt this spot fits the bill. As other Yelpers have noted, get here early for a seat. The bar area has limited seating and Ive seen people leave because there wasnt room for them! Located at the far end of Sutter Street (The Powerhouse end), there is parking underneath and an elevator that goes straight to the restaurant from the parking garage! The building is a newish one and also houses a bridal studio of sorts and a bakery. I highly recommend the sliders ($2) which I noticed arent on the dinner menu. At least, not that I could see. Fries and onion rings are one or two bucks, and they are just okay, in my opinion. Honestly I dont recall what other happy hour offerings there are because did I tell you already that I love the sliders? I usually end up getting a vodka martini here with stuffed bleu cheese olives. At around $5 or so, this is affordable alcoholic decadence! If that doesnt please you, Joe the affable bartender will make you something that youll love. Last time I was here, he made me and T an alcoholic shake that included a whole piece of pie...blended. Yes you heard correct. It tastes amaaaaaazing. Just dont think too much about calories when you come here. My motto o the day: Eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die.

I do NOT mind paying for a fine/nice dining experience. That being said, The Sutter Street Steakhouse is a little pricey for the experience I had. To start, the "opening" bread at the table was close to stale. I was rushed through out my entire dining experience as if I were in a diner. (I was dining alone). My waiter, Denis, (Yes, I will mention him by name) was pretentious at best. The steak was mediocre, and I will take partial blame for that, for ordering it rare (They suggest medium rare). When a patron is seated, ask if they would like and aperitif FIRST, rather than rushing them to order. I will say I had one of the finest Manhattans I have ever had, and I have been tending bar for over 30 years, and yes, I am a (fill in the blank) when it comes to a Manhattan. The rest of the wait staff was very attentive and on the ball!! No espresso? Really? So much for fine dining. My dessert was also, mediocre, but that could have been forgiven if the plate, which had a lovely presentation, was not just plopped at my table. OWN IT, PRESENT IT, SELL IT, the chef made a pretty plate, dont insult it by nearly throwing it on the table like Mel at Mels diner had just yelled "PICK UP" and rang the bell!!! Also, to Denis, my waiter, you got a 15% tip. consider it a gift!

Sutter Street Steakhouses Happy Hour is Monday to Friday from 4:30 to 6:00PM. What happens during this hour? Happiness. You can find great food to go along with great prices. The Fries and Onion Rings are nothing spectacular, but you cant complain when its only $1 per order. A bag of chips costs more than that! Prime Beef Sliders were tasty and only $2 each. Two. Dollars. They serve Oysters for $1.50 each and although they arent amazing, oysters for that price is a great deal. I recommend passing on the Calamari as it was only average and on the higher priced side compared to the other dishes. My favorite dish has to be the Steakhouse Prime Burger. The thing is huge and from what Im told, its actually a higher grade cut. The caramelized onions are a game changer and the way they toast their bread puts the cherry on top. Its $8 with fries but very worthy it. Lastly, you wash all this food down with $3 draft beers or $4 well cocktails. Service is great and the bartender is the man!

My husband and I have been going to Sutter Street Steakhouse since it first opened. We have never been disappointed and always brought out of town guests with us and have highly recommended it to all of our friends. We went for dinner last Saturday evening and Im sorry to say we were both very disappointed. The steak (6 oz. filet) was nothing like it used to be. The sauces were awesome but the steak that used to cut like butter was nowhere near how it used to be. We always got some sort of a vegetable with our meal (green beans, carrots) but not this time. The steak came with garlic mashed potatoes and all vegetables were ala carte. I ordered the special which was a 6 oz. filet, garlic mashed potatoes and spinach. I did not want the potatoes so asked for additional spinach instead. I was charged a $4 substitution charge. I think the quality of the food has gone down and the prices have gone up. I will probably not return there any time soon.

I went to Sutter Street Steakhouse last night with my boyfriend, and had a wonderful time. We went around 7 on a Monday and there was no wait. Drank the best Lemon Drop I have ever had! The steak was cooked perfectly, and came with mashed potatoes, but no vegetables (they cost extra). Knocked down a star because its pretty pricey for what you get, but the atmosphere is warm and nice, the food was delicious and the service was excellent.
