For those of you with short attention spans: the food is good; its worth it to eat here. Period. For those of you that actually have the time to read more... **TELL THEM HOW YOU WANT YOUR BURGER COOKED** I got my burger and it was great...seriously, it was very good but they cooked it a little more well-done than I prefer. It actually had a little bit of crunchiness to it because it was cooked more than I liked. Its not their fault. Just be sure to TELL THEM HOW YOU WANT YOUR BURGER COOKED. I got the "classic" because it was my first time there and I wanted to give them a fair shot at what I consider a basic burger. The french fries were crunchy and salty and delicious. The atmosphere/decorations are a little stark and basic but can be forgiven because the food makes up for it. The tables have Trivial Pursuit cards on them and can make for a great thing to do to pass the time (put down your phone!). I also noticed they had crayons for the kids to color with too (but didnt see any color pages...maybe color on the walls?). Anyway, we ended up feeding a family for about $35. And, bottom line, I would give it another chance and this time I would tell them how I want my burger cooked (medium-rare, please).

Better burger than most burger joints. If you want something more than fast food and dont mind spending an extra buck or two, you should try this little stop. A small, hole in the wall style restaurant with a surfing theme and even an old school PacMan machine to drum up a bit of nostalgia, the "Shack" slowly begins to exceed expectations. With burgers that drips with goodness and are larger than most mammals heads, you wont be disappointed with the beef. Unfortunately, the fries have never been quite up to par and a couple of occasions out of tens have some of the staff been less than receptive. But when a restaurant has the option for chili, cheese AND gravy on your fries... they must be doing something right! Regardless, in the end, they do a great burger, whichever style floats your boat!

Was there didnt stay to eat tho. After watching the cooks and order taker we decided to leave. One cook double dip the French fries to reheat the fries, the other had hamburgers being over cook at least on one side of the pattys, then we watch how long it took to take just 2 orders and they still had one more order to take before us. And the part that made us leave is there was 5 tables wait to receive thier orders, which the food was pretty much done just need to be put together and severed. We just did have that kind of time to wait for our order, let alone have it come out with French fries that are double deep fried and a patty thats burned. One star for lack of good service and cooking.

we pulled into the surfside burger shack on our way up from frisco to redwoods national park. we saw the reviews and i decided it would be a good and quick dinner stop on our way. the burgers were absolutely fantastic. chili fries out of this world. fried pickle chips very tasty. garlic fries amazing. all i can say is get there. it is a bit pricey but we thought well worth it for the good old time burgers made the way you want them with sides every bit as good to go along with them. the burger chefs were friendly, the owner was great, and the big wave surf movies kept us entertained while we ate! great burgers, good times.

Generally really good burgers, and the best fries and onion rings anywhere around. Theyve got a surf theme and have videos playing in the background which kinda sets them apart from your average burger place. I really enjoy the trivial pursuit cards at the tables. They used to have the absolute best bacon Ive ever had on a burger but the quality recently seems to have declined a bit. That and a couple burnt burgers dropped them down from 5 stars, but Id still highly recommend them.

I have read many reviews on this place and most agree that the fries need help. I how ever I thi k they were great. The meat on the burger was so fresh tasting and was seasoned perfect. Some said they are pricey but Ive had many burgers in town and most of them are costco or cash and carry patties. This is grass fed beef so rember you get what you pay for. Owners are great.

One of the best burgers I think I have ever had! My wife and I were just passing through town on our honeymoon and were both craving burgers. We are very glad we chose to stop at Surfside Shack. I got the fries which werent great, but my wife got onion rings which were delicious. We will definitely go out of our way to visit this burger joint in the future.

Very good burgers. Mine came to me overdone, ordered medium and came out well done but......... Was still juicy and tasty enough that it wasnt leaving my hands! We ordered both the fries, (to die for), and the onion rings, (freshly battered). Every thing from the burgers to the sides were made fresh. Decor..... dated but the food, delicious.

This is not my "spot" for burgers. As a transplant from NYC, Im one of those fluppers who thinks he "knows his burgers" when in actuality I probably dont. But you know what this place has going for it? Its got a buttload of delicious burgers for you to personalize. And they taste great. Laid back atmosphere that delivers what the name portends.

Recent ownership change prompted me to try it again. Seems like theyre still working out some kinks. Forty minutes to get my burger. It was a good burger, much better than under the previous owner. Fries are better too, fresh instead of frozen, but could use a little work. Staff very friendly; another change from the previous owner.

This place could be really good if they changed a few things stating with the fries just because they are hand cut doesnt make them good it was kinda like eating deep fried cardboard. The burger was a hand packedand good quality meet it just needed a little seasoning.

Burgers here are always fantastic! There were a few times when certain condiments were not taken off of my burger like asked, but how easy is it to do that yourself. So Im not complaining. Fries are not always crispy enough but still good....I love this place!

Very good food. The staff is always friendly. Couldnt really ask for much else. The inside is a lite small but it works. It used to be an old subway sandwich shop and thats what it looks like but with a cool surf twist. I like it.

The new owners seem to be doing a great job. the place was clean and the staff were great. the food is awesome. the only thing I wish is they bring back gravy fries. the old owner had them on the menu before the place went down hill.

I read that Surfside had changed hands - and it has. The owners are first time restaurant people and quite nice. So was my Hawaiian burger! I also had onion rings which had very little flavor :( -- Ill try the fries next time.
