Burger was OK, but not $12 worthy. Also asked for no ketchup and it of course came with it anyways. Normally not a big deal, just ask the server for another or wipe it off, right? But this burger had more ketchup than I knew what to do with, so I ended up scraping off half the bun to rid myself of the necessary vinegary tomato waste. Unfortunately the server did not come back for about 10 minutes and didnt bother to do the traditional is everything alright? routine, or else I would have asked to get another burger. And i do mean 10+ minutes. I sat patiently for about 3 or 4 minutes waiting for him to come around. Nope. And I was going to stop the manager and ask her, but she was already occupied correcting another persons order. What most bugged me about the situation was when ordering the burger, the waiter and I talked briefly about how I did not like ketchup on my burger. That dude knew.. Also - whats up with the one tiny mushroom on the Umami Burger? I guess the menu was literal when it said shitaki mushroom. As in 1. Singular. Anyways, not the best of experience. Rated 3 stars because maybe those people who absolutely love ketchup on a burger shouldnt be turned off by my experience. Well, actually I think this is a time when everyone should re-think their life if they like ketchup on a burger because its is gross and an unnecessary waste of tomato. Atmosphere is OK, fries were OK. All around OK. Unless you like ketchup. Then maybe slightly better than OK?

Ive been here several times including their other locations. This one seems to be my go to because its more quiet and patio seating. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable especially Shannon. She was all smiles checking on me several times to make sure I got everything I needed. I told her Im here for The Impossible Burger and she immediately ask if Im a vegetarian. Shes concerned about what people take in, and I thank her for asking me. Better to be sure than sorry. There was some kind of fish sauce in the burger and just because its meat free, the sauce wasnt. The Impossible was tall and slippery especially when trying to take hold of while taking a bite. Some how its really close to the real thing including char burnt edges. I picked through the center of patty just to see whats hidden. I can spot little short strands of reddish pink pieces. Whatever it was, it was tasty. Bacon maple syrup sweet potato fries were good and surprisingly slightly crunchy considering the amount of syrup it was drenched in. Took in everything with nothing left and wash it down with a solcal beer. Overall, good place for a quick bite with quick service. There wasnt much of anything that I didnt like other than the beer selection. Not much local beer for draft or bottle. Im not a fan of big global beer company taking over little brewer. I want local draft like Drakes or Anchor Steam. Oh well.

Really disappointed. Based on online menu, I invited family for Sunday dinner. Only to have our waitress tell us that even the brussel sprouts would probably have gluten because they dont wash the pans. I was really sad when my daughter in law excused herself to go home and eat lentils because the waitress made everything sound high risk for gluten (my dil becomes very ill with any gluten, and cant take risks). The waitress overall seemed to be on another planet, and she came by every couple minutes to interrupt our conversation to ask if everything was okay, "still". My seared ahi sandwich was really sad... nice carrot, cabbage, ginger slaw, but the Ahi was a tough, dry, formed patty, with not nearly enough texture or flavor to hold up under the slaw. Seeing how unfresh it looked, I became concerned about eating it in its seared (extremely rare) state, and so didnt. So on the up side, the wings appetizer was amazingly delicious, and the hostess was energetic and sweet. Except that they also dont have nonalcoholic beer, I could see going there after work just for the wings.

I use UberEATS all the time, very much not great for budget but I love the food here. Sadly almost every order the drinks are missing and any special instructions are often ignored. Ive even talked to the very helpful sounding manager but on the immediate next order the problem remains. The only way I can actually get drink orders delivered and not have to call either umami or uber for refund is to specifically ask to make sure drinks are included. Poor form. It does speak for the food that I come back to this lackadaisical handling of customers orders, but its gone beyond acceptable. Ive left two separate messages for the manager to get a hold of me to resolve, but Ive heard nothing. My only hope is posting this public moves things along and it is taken seriously. Its really the last resort as I dont like doing public call outs.

This was my second time at an Umami Burger, my first at this location. The space was nice and open and the staff friendly. The reason they lost a star is twofold: we came into the nearly empty restaurant and, of all the open tables, they sat us right in the sun. We had to ask to move just to be able to see each other, which I dont think we should have when there were so many open tables. Secondly, when we ordered our burgers they asked if we were ok with our burgers being cooked medium-rare (the Umami standard). Both of us enthusiastically responded that medium-rare was perfect, however, when our burgers arrived they were medium well; just a touch pink. The burgers were delicious so we didnt bother to send them back, but it seems as if your standard is medium-rare and you bother to ask, thats how it should be cooked.

Went Friday at the beginning of happy hour. The ambiance of the restaurant is excellent, along with polite and friendly service. Everythings excellent so far, and so now to the food. I had the umami burger as well as some cheesy truffle fries. The burger was decent, the bun was perfect though it didnt quite meat my expectations. The fries were acceptable, but once again did not meet my expectations, more so than the burger. The fries were saturated in cheese at the top with the rest of them having none at all, and the truffle flavor did not come through at all. Overall, good service, awesome restaurant ambiance (with a pretty sick patio space), and lackluster food. I would go back, but for the experience provided at the cost that it was, I wont be a very frequent customer.

This place has some of the best burgers Ive ever had. They default to serving the burgers medium-rare, and they should, because the beef is pretty damn high-quality. The only Bay Area burger Ive had with better meat is the Prather Ranch burger at Gather. Their truffle cheese is silly and delicious, so I recommend you truffle your fries. Or smother em (gravy and short rib). Or make em manly (beer-chedder sauce, bacon and crispy onions). Its definitely a bit pricier than what you might expect from a burger chain, but its quality matches it. And thats kinda the point: there arent many burger joints that serve a higher-quality product. Umami Burger does.
