I have trouble rating big-box restaurants. Ive never been into this style of eating, not even back in the days when TGI Fridays was all the rage. Its disconnected, its impersonal, and its generally ho-hum. On The Border has its own charms though. I have come here a few times when Im working local and have a work crew with me, or if Im taking in a movie next door and feel like maybe a beer and some ok-ish tex-mex fare. To be clear, this isnt real Mexican food, its a Mexican-American fushion kinda deal. Their guacamole is kind of ok, their quesadillas are generally pretty ooey and gooey and tasty. If I recall correctly, the queso is kind of like the Doritos stuff from a jar--tastes ok, but its nothing to rave about. The chicken tortilla soup is kind of their shining star for me. Im most always a fan of that though no matter where it comes from, thats one of those dishes thats hard to screw up I think. I normally go for a burrito or one of the fish taco options or the southwest chicken tacos. Theyre pretty ok, worth dropping by there if youre already at the shopping center. Ive also had the grilled mahi with mango salsa, which is a more health conscious choice that has pretty good flavor and was cooked properly when I had it.

I have come to this restaurant multiple times a month and this is the first time Ive left with a feeling of not wanting to come back. Our waiter, Jerome or Jermaine, was not very warm in welcoming our group of six. Youd think with a group our size, over 21 all drinking, the waiter would be extra nice. Anyways, we order our drinks that are literally 1/2 ice. At $9-$11 a pop I was paying for watered down alcohol. Our meal comes which was tasty, as always, but never once were our drinks refilled or were we asked about dessert, nothing. He takes our bill and not only overcharges one friend by $30, but takes the $30 from the cash to double tip himself. Then argues with him about the mistake. We slowly break down the simple math for him and he takes all of our credit cards back to "correct" the mistake, I was confused at the moment why he needed all of our cards to correct one mistake but trusted thats what he had to do. Today I look at my bank statement and he charged me twice for my $22 bill. Which, come to find out, he did to all 6 of us. This is ridiculous, unprofessional and just plain stupid. We wont be going back here anytime soon.

How could anyone eat here and think its good? My food was so disgusting, AND COLD. My husband ordered a salad, he was brought soup, then she brought the salad, but prior to that we asked if the salad would be in a flour bowl, thats what we were expecting, but no. Looks like they use pot roast for the beef in the salad too. The enchiladas with white sauce are crap too. Pasty sauce. Horrible. I hope the cook has a better day tomorrow. Good luck

Service was very slow for a weeknight, with some of my tables food coming out hot while other dishes completely cold. The empanadas were tasteless blobs of hot cheese but the mini chimis were awesome and tasted just like my favorite frozen taquitos! I just wish my waiter had come around sometime for me to ask for sour cream or guac, pretty standard Mexican condiments that were completely absent from this dining experience.

If you want bland Mexican food, then this place will be well-suited to your needs. I came here for the pork tacos seasoned with relatively mild Hatch peppers, which are seasonal, but tis not the season, so I was disappointed. The chicken fajitas totally lacked any flavor; just dried out chicken. The salsa for chips totally bland with no alternative. The black beans had no hint of spiciness of even mild chipotle flavor.

The restroom is sooooo disgusting. It smells like toxic fumes are coming out of the restroom. I thought it was isolated to the restrooms, but when I went to Fudruckers and came back into On the Boarder I could smell the worse odor ever. This place is disgusting and if it wasnt for the outstanding bar service I would have left a lot sooner!! Thanks for your wonderful service Leo!

The last few times we have come here the food has been meh at best and at least once it was actually so bad I had to send it back (which I never do). The manager came and apologized and the service in general is typically at least decent but overall I have found very little about the place to recommend it other than its proximity to the theatre and that they have alcohol.

The meal was great! The food was delievered fairly quickly for been lunch time. Free chips and Salas is always great in my mind. The only issue was my drink not being full and waiting while for it to be refilled. The restraunt wasnt very busy at all for a Wednesday. I would guess about 30 tables.

We walked in, chose to sit at the bar. Jesus, the bar tender, took our order, served our drinks ( we both had grande margaritas on the rocks) our food was served within a few minutes. Food was served hot, and was excellent. Now, its time to get her home before the alcohol wears off...

I have been coming to Pleasanton for two years now. I always make it a point to eat at On The Border. The Fresh Guacomole is very good. They make it in front of you, next to your table. My fav is Southwest Chicken Tacos. Also, try Avocado Fries for Starters.

Borderita is their signature margarita, with a maximum of two per person. Two is just about right. Food is good but sometimes a bit variable. the fajitas are good, tacos are a bit small, some dishes not great, but the drinks more than compensate.

I had one of the best mexican food at this restaurant. I was delighted when I was served by a girl who looks like Anjalina Jolies sister (I dont like Anjalina as she is too slim). But this girl is perfect just like that food is perfect.

One server for entire restrauant at 6:00 in the evening. He did well considering. Had the chicken tortilla soup. It was tepid. I will not be back. Tipped the server well for his effort. A second server showed up around 6:30. .

My wife and I split a combo platter of fish tacos and a shredded beef enchilada. The food was good, the service was excellent, and they have recently lowered their menu prices, so I think we got a good value for our money.

The food is good and decently priced. On busy nights, the wait staff may get overwhelmed and forgetful but they are generally courteous and do try to rectify any mistakes. Stay away from the bar unless its happy hour
