Pros - Location - Reasonable Prices Cons - Incompetent Management - Atrocious Service Essentially: Go here if you want to be treated like a wallet and not a person. Management doesnt do anything or handle customers with any degree of service. I went there this Thursday 4/25 with some of my friends who are all near their 30s. I ordered a double of their top shelf rum, neat: Pyrat. Before my glass was finished one of the bussing staff picked up my glass and continued to walk away. I told him "Wait, Im not finished." And he went on to tell me that he was: doing his job, that the glass was basically finished already and etc. I explained that I hadnt finished it and that it was a quality rum that I was enjoying. I shouldnt have even had to explain that. He continued to have an arrogant attitude of authority and instead of returning the glass he requested my ID. I showed him my state issued California ID. Then he was rude enough to ask for another form of ID. I went on to show my previous Minnesota State ID as well as numerous other forms, and then I requested a manager. I explained the situation to the manager and the manager just looked at my IDs and handed them back and walked away, not reprimanding the employee or providing any effort to redeem service. Dont waste your time or money at this establishment with their despicable service.

Depending on when you go you will either have a good experience or a bad one. During the day you can go, get some food, sit on the patio with friends or family (kids welcome during the day), and enjoy yourself. You can get service at the bar without too much hassle or waiting and the employees are usually nice. At night it can be a completely different story, especially on the weekends or when there isnt class the next day at Chico State. It seems like the employees dont know how to handle the extra crowds or they assume everyone is a drunk idiot trying to cause trouble. Finding a place to sit can be nearly impossible, which is to be expected when its crowded, but even trying to find a place to stand is difficult especially when the staff yell at you for standing in what seems like a perfectly reasonable place to stand. I have yet to have a good interaction with a member of the staff when it is remotely busy, and I fully expect to be treated poorly whenever I go at night. Other than that the beer selection and prices are great, and the food is tasty. I want to love this place but the staff just make it so difficult.

The place is wonderful for dancing upstairs with good heavy bass rap music. Was fun for me until i came downstairs. The busboy was not nice and had an attitude problem with me. He tells me to zip up my hoodie jacket because i was not wearing a shirt, so i did, and then 2 seconds later, he harassed me saying zip it up more like if i were a female showing too much. I said, its fine, its not showing too much. Then he becomes a jerk by saying, "dont make us tell you again." Very unprofessional in my opinion and i think he was drinking cause i think his breath smelled like it. one or two females were wearing just bra shirts showing off their bellies, chest, etc and he tells us guys to wear our shirts full, zipped up, or something not showing guy bellies. Still go to this place, but avoid busboys like him.

Yea wow what an experience for an out of towner. You pop in the front door and its bustling. Stand in line, check out a unique menu of burgers and stuff. The crew behind the counter is like going to a Dutch brothers. Music blasting and good vibes. They have different areas to this place. I didnt get to see them all, but I loved what I experienced. Our host family was able to get a beer right away from the bar and then stand back in line with us. There is a second story section I didnt get too. We dined outside next to a heater and it was just a very cool place. We took advantage off the 50% off special by wearing Madison bear garden gear. Lots of other local things happen here. If I lived in chico I would be there every week for sure! We also took our young kids and it was OK for them too.

Stopped for a few drinks, (just a few drinks and conversation, also had some good food) and at 8 pm or so they call in the bus boys with the blue shirts and black ties. (Please know this place is great until this point) We were trying to enjoy each others company when these kids roll out and force out patrons and rudely assert that they are prepping for the night hours, "So you may want to leave". The female staff that was watching the area confirmed with her actions, we did want to leave. Hey Bear management, you have all the years of success behind you, please have your staff attempt to hold that up for you, even if their job of forcing out people that are not there for the night life is so hard.

This place is a Chico classic, been here since forever as far as I can tell. Try out the Pastrami Burger if you want something interesting. They have a wide variety of beers on tap, and a full bar. Food is always pretty decent (for a burger joint), and it is not too expensive. What really sets this place apart though is the atmosphere. Each table has its own theme (playboy bunnies, Maps, Licence Plates, Drivers licences etc...). There is also a cool courtyard. If the weather is nice, that is a great place for having lunch. It is typically pretty loud inside, and is kid friendly until about 9pm when it turns into a full on bar.

The worst service ever! The guy who took my order was polite, but the girl who was standing next to him was a total B*tch! She had a huge attitude and should probably be fired if they want people to come back - yeah it was that rude. The food is not as good as I thought it was going to be, considering the price, and that is without a beverage. Atmosphere is cool, a fun place to be, but the kitchen needs some help and so does the service.

Burgers n brew is way better if you want to pay 10$ for a burger and still be hungry come to the bear. If you like snarky rude bar tenders who treat people like dirt come here (not all the bar tenders are bad here just a few) for example they made my girlfriend the wrong drink and when she brought it back to get it fixed they gave her half a drink back when she hadnt even drank much of the wrong one they gave her.

Food is ok. Standard pub fare. Beer is good, especially if you like Sierra Nevada as theres not much of a selection on tap. If youve been to a McMenamins in Oregon or Washington, the decor will look familiar. The main issue I had was the EXTREMELY LOUD speakers announcing that orders were ready. Constantly interrupted my conversation and was just unnecessary on a slow Saturday morning.

The tables, floors, and bathrooms are always dirty here. If it werent for karaoke on Monday nights, I would never go there. The service at the bar is awful unless they know you and the barbacks are some of the unfriendliest people Ive ever seen. The kitchen staff are generally nice and the food is alright. I wouldnt eat there if I had other options and, in Downtown Chico, you do.
