Chico is regularly a delight, with a small number of very good and affordable restaurants, such as Christian Michaels (Calfornia/French), Sicilian Cafe, Cocodine (Thai) and a good half dozen others. Variety, convenient parking, quality and prices make Chico a favorite place for restaurants outside the Bay Area in Northern California. Japanese Blossom is another local jewel that would probably sparkle in the Bay Area at higher prices. It has most of the traditional sushi, donburi and sashimi dishes. Maki Sushi, 6-8 pieces $4-6, ,Sashimi 7-9 pieces $14-18, Donburi Rice Bowls $11-15 with vegetarian versions slightly less. Appetizers from $4-$9. Good selection of sakis and wines. House saki at $7/small bottle, enough for two, is quite good. The Miso soup is outstanding, rich and not salty. For non-Japanese dishes, consider their miso-roasted Salmon $14 or short ribs $14 both served with "Japanese Slaw" that seemed no different from AnyCountry Slaw. For desserts, Fried Banana and Fuji Apple $6, and Mandarin Orange Creme Brulee $7 are unusual and well prepared The service is very good and although somewhat noisy when crowded on weekends, the layout makes conversation fairly easy. Have never found a very good and affordable Japanese restaurant but this comes close.

I dont know why, but I feel relaxed when I go the Blossoms. Something about the vibes in the rant. Good-enough food. The most delicious hot tea Ive had at any Asian restaurant. I like the decor. They would do well to look at the menu of Mobo Sushi in Santa Cruz, CA in order to find and create a more extensive and creative selection of vegetarian sushi. Jena was one of the best waitresses Ive every experienced. Thanks. UPDATE: Sadly, I had a non-excellent experience at Blossoms in February of 2017. Heres the letter I sent to the owner in February of 2017, still unanswered as of May 2017: "Owner Japanese Blossoms 2995 Esplanade Chico, CA 95973 My wife and I have eaten at your restaurant at least 10 times and enjoyed each visit excepting last night when the brown rice was uncooked (hard as tiny pieces of unchewed bubblegum) and my avocado-cucumber sushi was disappointing because the amount of avocado in each piece was about this big and this thick: Plus we sent my wife’s veggie-disk order back after having requested the sauce on the side but receiving the disk with the sauce on the ingredients. I had posted a 4-star rating for you on yelp initially, but… We are now disinclined to return. Please respond. Sincerely, Clayton L. Olson"

I came here with my little niece and I was very impressed. I tried: Special Veggie Roll Northern Lights Roll lunch special with soup and salad (both DELICIOUS) Fancy Veggie Roll Northern California Roll Tempura Shrimp and Veggies and a kids tray of Teriyaki Chicken, rice and California Roll, and had not one complaint. Everything was fresh and the rice was cooked perfectly! For prices, that was all $55 and worth it all. I highly recommend the Fancy Veggie Roll! The atmosphere and decor is very nice and clean, and the server was sweet. She did accidentally order one wrong item, but was very nice and didnt charge me for it. Something I was very impressed with: they had a kids tray with separated sections! My niece being autistic, she very much appreciated the food not all touching :) I would recommend this place for sure!

Japanese Blossoms has the best miso soup in town, in my opinion. Consistency is not 100% with the preceding. One of the waiters was not knowledgeable, was ignorant, and not attentive. The majority of the staff are good, though. The owner is very nice and accommodating, as are the sushi staff. Yum. The sushi at Rice Bowl is better, but at R.B. they pulled stunts like offering you a "sample" or "try this" and magically, the charge appeared on the check. This happened twice at R.B, so Im NOT going back there. Its a question of integrity. I recommend Japanese Blossoms.

Really expensive for what we got. I got recommended to this place as a vegan and discovered they only actually have one, maybe two items on the menu that meet the qualifications. I would rather go all the way to yuba city to Kenzos sushi than go here again...or make my own. My husband, who is not vegan, got a different item on the menu and was also dissapointed and frustrated that it was so pricy for what we got. Literally still hungry when we left but didnt want to spend more there.

I was staying nearby and decided to try them, on a Friday night. I got seated at the sushi bar within a couple minutes, even though the place was packed. My sushi started coming out in less time than it took to order it. I really enjoyed their special rolls, and the chefs were pleasant to talk to. You can order over the bar which saves time of having to wait for your server, and allows you to chose new rolls whenever youre ready. I will absolutely return there.

The chefs are outstanding. They know their craft well. Youll definitely find your favorite roll, but theyve got several of their own creations that are awesome. Ive never encountered anything but the most attentive and friendly wait staff. Even when its been packed, there was never a long wait for the food to start arriving. I always make it point to come here when Im in town.

We love Japanese Blossom. Hubby and I have been coming here for years. Even after we moved away from Chico, we have been known to drive from Roseville just for the sushi! I love the unique rolls and twists on simple favorites. Spicy tuna roll is great and the northern lights is awesome too!! No place in Sacramento compares to this place.

I usually go for their udon noodle soup a gyoza. The soup is wonderful (love adding the 7 spice) and comes in a bowl so large, I have enough to enjoy the next day. The gyoza is the best Ive had in town. It has wonderful flavor and is light on the stomach. The staff is both attentive and pleasant. Havent had a bad experience yet!

Neta is always fresh, thick, and delicious. Rice is not too sticky. I love sushi and sashimi here for the quality. The price is comparably higher than other sushi restaurant in Chico. The taste is great. We often order food to go to avoid waiting lines at the restaurant since this place is always packed.

I dont give many five stars for restaurants but this place has never let me down. The food is always nothing but superb! Friendly staff with amazing attention to detail. Laura is usually there and she remembers that Im gluten free. Even fills in the other servers with my special needs. Omg salmon torro!

Our favorite Chico restaurant. Dont pay attention to the nay-sayers (or at least, take their reviews with a grain of salt), I have always found the sushi to be fresh, creatively presented, and delicious. On a side note, dont miss out on their cheesecakes and other freshly homemade desserts.

was assaulted with a fishy smell...a serious fishy smell. Sorry...I really, really wanted to eat here tonight, but that (definitely not aroma, but not quite odor either) smell just wouldnt let me. Ill try again, because our lunch was excellent, and your menu seriously intrigues us!
