I finally was able to try Gen Korean BBQ - I can definitely see why people enjoy coming here as the ambience and location seem to set Gen apart from most other KBBQ places in the SGV. Expect a very long wait on Fridays and the weekends. The weekdays can get busy, too but the weekends - you might find yourself waiting up to an hour! And the parking is horrible. When the new structure opens up, it might allow for better parking, but even with the limited parking, people are still willing to wait up to an hour to eat at Gen! The restaurant is incredibly loud. There are two stories - I think the upper story is more for bigger parties, birthdays, etc. while the bottom story houses the individualized tables that only have 1 grill at each booth. With the atmosphere, its pretty impossible to have a nice place to eat with a relaxed vibe. And because people are waiting, theres a huge crowd at the front of the restaurant, loud chatter - just very noisy. Service is really good. The workers were efficient and quick to respond to any items we needed to add or order. They constantly changed our grills and didnt pressure us to leave. And the food - it is pretty good. The sauces are just okay, and the banchan arent anything special, but the beef tongue, brisket, ribs, intestines were some of my favorites. The tofu soup was also pretty tasty. The only thing I didnt really like was the shrimp. Prices arent too bad. I think you get what you pay for. I dont know if I would return, just because the setting and atmosphere is too busy for me. And with parking being such a hassle - Id just go somewhere else for KBBQ. But if I had to return to eat KBBQ at Gen, I wouldnt mind!

First off the wait was an hour and the location looks old and unappealing unlike their modern Cerritos location. It was the coldest winter night of the season and everyone was packed in the entrance like Sardines, everytime someone opened the door the stench of Cancerous air would blow in, They really shouldnt allow people to smoke at the entrance, They have the power to enforce that. When you sit down the table is not already set up like at the Cerritos location you have to wait for them to get you all set up and then they only brought us onions and kimchi and salad we had to ask for the noodles and the radish rounds and the potato salad. but the potato salad they gave us this oh dont even ask for it type response "we dont have it" they said although I was staring right at it at the table right next to us, - So Did they run out? IDK, but that was rude! They didnt bring out a couple of the meats we ordered, although they brought us salad like every 5 minutes. Even though I like the salad very much I dont pay $20 a head to eat salad I want the meat. Keep that coming!!! - I dont like that they wait around to see if maybe youll change your mind and forget about. I ordered it cause i want it and Im going to eat it. Im aware of the waste fee. Just bring me what I ordered, Please! Overall It was not a terrible experience but I have been to their Cerritos location and they are excellent! The food tasted fine but its all the other little details that just really didnt do it for me at this Gen :-/

There were plenty of things that I liked about Gen, but far too many things that really bothered me. We originally made reservations for a party of ten, but after a couple made other plans, our party had dropped to eight (and eventually became seven when by the time we made it to the restaurant), and when we informed Gen of the change, they had to cancel our reservation, a rather unfortunate policy. So we go anyway as a walk-in and request a table for seven. We waited for about a half-an-hour, which wasnt too bad. Our party makes our way through the dining room, up the stairs to the smokey top floor. We start ordering and begin running into shortages, many of the side dishes, the salad, rice, and even glasses for our pitcher of beer (which once we did get, most were still dirty). The waiters were working hard, but the restaurant was showing its shortcomings. At the end of the meal, they bring us the check, with a mandatory gratuity already tacked on, although their menu states that a mandatory gratuity is only tacked on for parties of 8 or more. At every turn, this establishment made blunder after blunder. Had it been up to me, there would have been absolutely no tip left, but my group, being the caring people they are, decided to modify the tip to something they were comfortable with. I wont be back here, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

We have been going to this place for about three years now. My family typically likes everything. The food, the atmosphere, the service. But as of late it has been very disappointing. Last night for the second time in my experience their systems went down. They couldnt take credit cards. I would be OK with that but the fact that on both instances instead of the waiters politely telling us they are having issues, they literally just disappeared. I understand systems crash but you need to keep your guests informed. They put me 2 hours behind my schedule then treated me like it was my fault. I then seen them write down peoples credit card numbers and told them they would input later. They offered me that and I said "Hell NO" what if they lose it and someone else gets a hold of it? They offered no compensation for my time and when I told them I would go to the ATM for money, they asked if I could leave my daughter there, who is a minor, or my cell phone, or my ID as good faith. I know Im a cynical person but I dont trust people with my information or my family. I very pathetic attempt to ensure I pay, treat me like its my fault, then waste my time. It pains me but I will not be going there again.

It was... Eh. I liked the overall ambiance, but there were some factors that I cant ignore. Hairs in multiple plates, for starters. We tried to ignore them, but we kept finding some throughout our two hour tune limit for all-you-can-eat. Our second pitcher of beer was warm. Consequently, I lost my interest in their beer and we stopped ordering them. Ive been to similar places, and nothing was special here. The brisket was edible, as was anything that was torn to bits before you cooked it, bit they need to work on their marinades. The garlic chicken was disgusting, and thats coming from someone that goes to Zankou specifically to get garlic covered chicken. There just wasnt enough flavor. Most of the thicker cuts off meat were inedible, the crappy hubcap grills not being the most efficient. We had someone with decades of grilling experience doing his best with it, but it just wasnt even. The place felt more geared to wringing 20.99 out of you than anything else. I didnt get sick, at least.

Ok, so this is my review on a place that I stumbled upon in my local area. I have to say this place was actually pretty good, mind you on a hot Saturday evening there was about a 45 min wait. The quality of meats were fresh and if you want something that cooks rather quickly, I suggest the this paper-thin cut meat known as the "brisket". The only thing I think could use a bit more attention, would be the service. Considering this was relatively busy Saturday evening, our server periodically would come to our table, but unfortunately when it came to the most simplest and easiest request such as more napkins, our service apparently seemed to think that was the least importance to him--whatever! To me and Im for most patrons, its the little things that count, esp. if youre awaiting a decent tip, in which our server didnt seem to hesitate to check how much he got before we could the restaurant.. What happened to discretion here?! lol All in all, it was good.
