The food is fabulous here, all the time. Every thing Ive had over the past few years has been top notch. HOWEVER, the service in the past two or three years has gone WAY downhill. Used to be just fine when I started coming here, but holy crap : Last year on my boyfriends birthday, we stopped in for a quick bite before going out later in the evening. Its very close to home, so we figured we could be in and out without much fuss. We sat at a table and two waitresses passed us numerous times, even made eye contact with us. Each time, they were rushing past so quickly we couldnt quite say anything to them. My partner did, however, call out to one of the two (after we had been sitting without so much as water for 15 minutes), and she looked him right in the eye, turned around and sped off to the kitchen. It was not especially busy, and certainly not too much for two servers to handle. We left after almost 25 minutes of absolutely no service, and we very nearly never came back, but the food is so good and its so damn close to home that we have come in a few times since. On another occasion, it was just us and one other table, and one waitress. Our drinks were empty and we had not seen our server for a while, so I got up from the table and walked around to the bar/kitchen, to see our server chatting with the cook! Come on! Since then though, the service has just been rotten. I was in with my grandmother earlier today, and while we were eating things were fine (but slower than ideal), but when it came time that I asked for the check and a couple takeout boxes, we sat at our table fondling the credit card, eager to pay, for 10 minutes while two servers ran around to other tables. I finally flagged one down (for a second time) and it STILL took them another few minutes to get us our check. I absolutely recommend La Botana for the food, but come in at your own risk- sometimes the service is just fine, but sometimes its completely nonexistent. I really wish they would remedy this, because I just love the food.

This place is the real deal. Number one the staff is awesome, very friendly, fun and whom always makes you feel like you’re part of the big Mexican family there. The spices used in the recipes are very authentic with secret Mexican spices and rich flavors. You can definitely tell this is no chain and somebody is digging deep into family secrets and putting their heart into these recipes. There are three different types of homemade salsas served in little dishes; green tomatillo, red spicy salsa, and pico de gallo; all are super-duper with a fourth bonus bean dip served in a larger bowl is surprisingly flavorful and made with no lard. I think the dip and salsas are a main attraction here ‘cept for the waitresses and the Modello. My favorite dish of all time from La Botana is the Zesty diskada with chicken, beef and seafood. It’s served over a flame with corn or flour tortillas and there’s always more food than I can put away. Lately however, I have been a big fan of the shredded beef tacos, for this entrée I always request the extra hot salsa and a big Negro Modello on draft. It gets the burn and cooling effect going just right!

I love coming to La Botana, the food is always good and the service as well. I was fairly disappointed last night for my birthday dinner. I called a couple days before hand to make reservations for my birthday dinner and they said they could accommodate. I called day of (last night) to add a 5 more people, and remind them of the party of 25 that would be arriving. I arrive a little early to find out, they had not prepared for the party whatsoever. Some tables were pushed together on the patio and we able to sit everyone eventually. I just was hoping to have everyone together more comfortably. However the waitress was amazing for being the only server for all 25 of us. The food was excellent and I will be back. Just a forewarning for anyone planning reservations for larger parties.

Daily specials! Great margaritas, and Micheladas!!! (beer of your choice, mixed with tomato juice lime and a spiced glass rim) Yumm!! The most wonderful "Nachos Gracias" with your choice of meat (or without) and lots of grilled veggies! Also love their bacon wrapped, cheese filled chili gueditos.. " Toritos" served with a yummy soy sauce!!! And dont forget outdoor seating with big screen TVs misters in summer time, and heat lamps in cold weather. Love it here! Always feels like vacationing omewhere in Mexico!!

Really good local Mexican joint in a rough neighborhood. The menu is unique and eclectic and I havent been dissapointed with anything I have ordered, plus I love that they bring beans with your chips and salsa (ask for the extra hot, if your into that sort of thing). The drinks are huge and reasonably priced especially during happy hour which is all day Sunday...their patio is a great place to nurse a hangover with a giant michelada and a tasty breakfast burrito.

What a FANTASTIC place to stumble upon!!! The 3 and 3 tacos and beer is the best deal, not to mention the tacos were killer! We bought extra tacos so we could try their other favors...pork(so good) and shrimp(even better!). Service is on point, and the patio is so relaxing. Whenever people visit from out of town I finally have a place to recommend! A forever customer, for sure:)

My new fav place in town, the chili salt rimmed margaritas are amazing! Ever since chuys went out of biz this place is my new spot for fish tacos and margaritas, they have a great covered patio that the wait staff frequents often enough you dont feel neglected. Great place to catch up with a buddy or watch a game, very family friendly too.

We came in and the sign at the door said “please sit yourself”. So we sat down in the outdoor sitting area. We sat there for over 5 minutes without anyone coming up to us. We saw a waitress 3 times and she never agnoliged our existence. It was 3 pm there was only one other table with customers in the outdoor area. After 5 minutes we left.

I used to frequent La Botana at least once or twice a week. Now that I have moved I miss this place. The staff are very nice and pleasant. The food is great and nothing on their menu is bad. Their carnitas and the chicaron tacos are to die for and the Margaritas are huge. You gotta try this place, you wont regret it......

Wanted to place an order for carryout on my way home after a 10 hour day of driving all over town and working but the zomato/urbanspoon menu had 4 things on it and the website said new menu coming soon. Would have liked to try it but seems like i never will since there is no menu to view to place an order.

La Botana is on arguably one of the worst corners in Tucson. But visit after visit leaves me pleasantly surprised. Super friendly wait staff, charming decor and a simple but good menu. The pozole broth is thick and stains red- the way it should- and the burritos are pretty big. Nice place!
