Kudos to Bobby Qs staff. Absolutely EVERYONE was super friendly and attentive. Everyone smiled and made eye contact, and they all seemed genuinely concerned that my needs were being met, and that I was getting what I wanted. I was immediately greeted with a smile when I walked in, and smiled at the entire time I was there. I really did experience 5 star service. But havent they wondered how such bad BBQ gets so highly rated? I decided on the Platter Sampler, which allowed me to choose three kinds of meat, a side and cornbread. I ordered the roasted corn and an extra side of shoestring fries. Sitting there sipping my iced tea a few minutes later, I overheard a couple of gentlemen at the end of the bar ordering meatloaf. Wondering how I had overlooked that, I studied the menu some more, but didnt see meatloaf anywhere. When I asked, the bartender indicated that they periodically have off menu specials. Since I had come so far, I ordered the meatloaf (only $9.99!) to go. My food came out far more quickly than I had anticipated, and there was a lot of it. Portion sizes were generous. I had opted for a combination of Brisket, St. Louis Ribs, and Spicy Smoked Link Sausage. The roasted corn was not corn on the cob, although the dish was topped off with two slices from the end of a roasted ear of corn. The off the cob corn had kernels that looked like they had seen fire. The juice that the corn was in had a good solid smokey flavor to it. I had anticipated and would have preferred roasted corn on the cob. To my personal tastes, it wasnt great, but it also wasnt bad. The shoestring fries were delicious! They were perfectly cooked, thinly cut, skin on, and nicely salted. It was a HUGE order, that came out in a little pail. Turning to my platter of meat, I was very disappointed. There were several slices of brisket, a generous portion. It was extremely moist, almost mushy as if it had been cooked in liquid, and there was no smoke ring. Ive lived and eaten all over the country, including Texas and the Carolinas. I have had good smoked brisket, and this bore no resemblance. It was more like pot roast or meat you would find in stew, with almost no smokey flavor. In fact, the corn had more smokey flavor than my brisket. I would not order the brisket again because I think this must just be the way they have decided to prepare it. Maybe lots of people love it. Maybe theyve never had better. I didnt like it. To the eye, the sliced link sausage was missing the usual coarse texture of sausage, with the textures of fat and lean. The mouth feel was as if it has been boiled, or in liquid at a sufficient heat to cook the fat out of it. That left the texture sort of like moist cardboard. The flavor coming through wasnt bad, but the effect was like nicely seasoned boiled cardboard. (It took me the entire drive home to figure out a truthful way to describe it.) Perhaps this batch had just been sitting in warm moisture too long. Im going to go back and read through the reviews again to see if Im the only one who experienced this. The St. Louis Ribs saved the day for the meats. Except for being fatty, and a general lack of smokey flavor, they werent bad. Not very good, but not bad. The best news turned out to be my take-out meatloaf special. My portion of meatloaf was nearly 2 pounds! It was also tasty! It wasnt what I expected as it had more pungently savory ingredients than I am accustomed to in meatloaf, including a degree of heat, although not excessive. It was topped with a generous portion of golden fried onions, and accompanied by a huge serving of skin on mashed red potatoes! The only downside for me was the gravy, which I am grateful came in a separate container on the side. Im not a fan of tarragon or thyme or whatever it was loaded with. Lots of people at the bar were eating it, but I didnt notice whether or not they used/ate the gravy. I honestly cant give Bobby Qs high marks for BBQ. I dont know where the great reviews come from.

BEST ribs EVER, in my experience, and the cornbread - well, most of us could make a meal of it alone - for days on end! For weeks and months! Seriously - its that good!! I dont know how anyone could have anything negative to say about this place. Everyone I saw leaving the restaurant as we were coming in was carrying bags of food as we are. The portions are that big! My new favorite place to go out to eat. ADDED NEXT DAY: My husband ordered rib eye steak. He only ate four bites and then told me it was full of crud. He recommends opting for any steak BUT the rib eye. I am probably the least picky steak eater there is, but after trying it, I have to agree with him. Sadly, that brought my rating down one star. *********************************************************************** EDIT^^^^^^^^^ I appreciate Chef Marks reply (didnt see it til today though, in AUGUST). We didnt have another opportunity until Monday night. This time we ordered the huge meal for three of us to share. Im sorry to say that we now go down by one star: It was a Monday, but they were still busy. The server gave us his spiel a bit fast and it was hard to understand. He WAS enthusiastic, though. The food took much longer to get to us than it has in the past, and then all four meat choices were WRONG! It MUST have been for a different table! So we waited a long time again. The biggest problem after that was that the baby back ribs were so charred that they flavor was bitter. The pulled pork and pulled chicken were sort of mushy; over-cooked, maybe? No substance to them. We DID inform our server when he checked with us. Last thing: the mint julip was so full of little ice cubes there was very little to drink, so that was disappointing. Come on, Bobby Q! Details, details! What is the problem? Im sure we will try again, because we used to love you, but for the prices, you should be doing better.

All you need to know is... PULLED PORK!!! It is seriously one of the best pulled pork Ive ever had! Im from California and we are blessed with Phils BBQ and my sister and I prefer Bobby Q over Phils BBQ! What We Ordered - Beef Brisket with Mac and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes - 2 Meat Combo: Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket with Mac and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes - Steak Sandwich with Shoestring Fries - Catfish Po Boy Sandwich with Roasted Corn The complimentary corn bread was good! Very moist! The beef brisket was good! The meat was tender but I felt that I needed to add the bbq sauce for it to taste better. The Mac and Cheese was super duper cheesy!! I loved it!! The Mashed Potatoes were really good as well! Super buttery and smooth. The Pulled Pork (not pictured because my sister was sitting too far) was AMAZING. It was good by itself or with the bbq sauce! I really wished I ordered this instead, like I originally planned. Luckily, my sister let me sample some of hers. :) My Mom enjoyed her catfish po boy. Shes really picky so thats telling you something lol. My Sister and Mom loved the roasted corn! The only bad dish was the Steak Sandwich but I dont know if thats because my Dad ordered it medium well. He said it was too chewy and had no flavor. His shoestring fries were really, really salty and soggy! He was very upset, to say the least lol. They give you little sugar donuts, (Thank Qs), at the end of the meal! They were so cuteeee! They were just average tasting but I enjoyed the fact that they were free! I will come back for the Pulled Pork!
