A terrible experience ---I really enjoy going out to eat with my friends and family. My family and I are sushi lovers, this is the reason why I know about seafood and the types of fish used for sushi. I also always look at reviews before I visit a Sushi restaurant. I am truly shocked at the 4.5 stars Sakana Sushi has been awarded. Let me tell you the experiences I had at this restaurant with the food and the service in the last couple months- My first time at Sakana Sushi #3 located in 20250 N 59th Avenue, was in May of 2015 my friends and I went for lunch. We order from the lunch menu, the Sakana lunch the first bite I had I did not taste anything else, other than the salt. The rolls were extremely salty and the seaweed paper was soggy. But the worse of my experience was when I had a bite of white tuna, it taste spoiled and I stop eating. On the menu states is “white tuna” but I believe is not white tuna- this fish is most likely “escolar” which is known to cause upset stomach due to their high mercury content . It seemed that the chef does not have a good sense of smell or taste and don’t care about feeding people spoiled food- let alone serve fake fish ,something is really bad for the human digestive system. My friends also had a bad experience with their food. So we left that day thinking to never return to Sakana again. I will not tell you what happened 24 hours later since you can imagine. All of my friends and I had food poison due to the spoiled fake fish we ate at this restaurant. My second experience was recently, on August 06, 2015. My daughter invited me to dinner, and I found myself back in Sakana for the second time. I thought maybe I will give a second chance, but it was a terrible experience once again. This time I did not order sushi. So I told my daughter to order couple ramen soups. We got there at 5:30 just when they open -we order our food at 5:35,– the waitress brought our food to the table-almost one hour later - she never apologized for the delayed or nothing- The soup was tasteless again, and at this point I was not in the mood to eat. Imagine it took the chef or whoever is back there almost one hour make two ramen soups? To top that, it took another 20 minutes for the waitress to bring my debit card back and we left that place forever. I would never go to SAKANA #3 or any Sakana restaurants again. The first time they serve fake spoiled fish and made everyone sick, the second time the service was terrible, and once again the food was disgusting. Is a real shame because this restaurant is on my neighborhood, now, I travel to bell road to eat good fresh sushi TOKYO LOBBY SUSHI – awesome place, everyone is very friendly, excellent and fast service. A note to the management at SAkana #3 spend some time in the kitchen to check the quality of the fish you serve to your clients please"

I rarely write complaints about restaurants and I want to start by saying we (my girlfriend and I) usually loved Sakana as our "go to" sushi place. However, today (1-7-17) my girlfriend picked Sanaka to go to for her birthday meal and we may never return. We arrived at about 4:45 and quickly ordered a drink and appetizer. Shortly after placing our app order we picked 3 sushi rolls. Usually we order 3 one for her, one for myself, and one to share. After 25 minutes they brought out hers and the one to share. We slowly ate the one and she stalled eating hers. After another 20 Minutes she picked away at hers and mine did not come to the table. As I watched a few tables that sat after us get their sushi rolls I asked our waiter (George) who was very polite to please box my meal and I expressed our disappointment. George came back and said all he could do is cancel the order or box it to go. George kindly offered to take no tip, which I said was silly and that he was great and deserved one but I did tell him that there are several other sushi places in the area that we would now try due to our dissatisfaction. I understand not getting all 3 rolls at once but to wait over 20 minutes after the two came out I was upset. I then had to wait another 5-10 after I asked for them to box it. I am disappointed that we now have to try to find a new sushi place.

I always look at reviews before I go some place. And I am truly shocked at the 4.5 stars Sakana has been awarded. Maybe the other reviewers have never had decent, fresh sushi before? I went with my family. We ordered the spicy tuna roll, the shrimp tempura roll, the Philadelphia roll, the rainbow roll, the crunchy eel roll and the crunchy California roll. And honestly, they all tasted the same. The rolls were extremely salty and the seaweed paper was soggy. I truly seemed that the sushi chef was inexperienced. Personally, Im addicted to sushi and dont turn it down. I couldnt even choke down a total roll. Had this been my first experience, I would never touch sushi again. Everyone at the table was grossed out. Im still burping the sushi over 2 hours later. Our appetizer came with the check. In a box. The service may not have been ideal but the server was courteous. It might have been a bad day for the chefs but I will never visit Sakana again.

My wife and I went in for an early 6pm Saturday night dinner. The place was 90% full but we were seated right away. The atmosphere is minimalist to say the least. However it is roomy and does not feel overly congested. The staff was friendly and helpful, but we ordered ahead of another couple and did not receive our more simple dinner choices until at least 10-15 minutes later then they did. The sushi was very good. Fresh and nicely done. It was not "great" or spectacular. I had the Rainbow Roll and my wife had the Tootsie Roll. We split a Phiadelphia roll. The Phiadelphia roll was not to our liking but the other two dishes were fine. Its a good solid Sushi / Japanese restaurant with many cooked menu items. I hear it gets packed later in the evening with long waits.

I moved here two years ago from southern California where there is a very diverse and varied selection of asian foods. I searched far and wide to find a solid sushi restaurant to help me overcome the initial home sickness and stumbled across this place. I am very happy to have a quality sushi restaurant so close to my house. The staff is very friendly and there is always a wait. As a matter of fact I am going to pick some up on my home tonight! Try the specials listed on the whiteboard behind the chefs. I have never been disappointed. My only knock on the place is that I wish it was a little bigger just so I would not have to wait as long to be seated! The sooner I sit the sooner I get to eat!
