We stayed in Athens overnight on our way south towards the beach and wanted to eat somewhere that we couldnt get at home. In my opinion, Lawlers was the perfect place to go. It had a laid back atmosphere as well as excellent service. The lady at the register explained to us how everything worked and gave us a quick rundown of the menu. My mom had the loaded potato which was absolutely amazing and large enough for an entire meal. We also ordered a sampler. The meat was tender and juicy and the barbecue sauce was savory. It was definitely that sweet southern barbecue we were looking for, as we are from up north. Would definitely come back, good for those who are road trippin.

Stopped on a Saturday night and was hungry for Barbecue. We are from Kansas City and know real barbecue. Ordered a pork sandwich. It came with shredded pork and slaw on it with some sort of dressing. I am not sure the meat ever saw a smoker and who the hell serves pull pork with slaw with creamy dressing. A real barbecue joint takes pride in its sauce. This is fast food and definite not good quality barbecue. Who ever gave this more than two stars has never been to a good barbeque.

5 stars because excellent food, excellent and friendly service. I have wheat allergies, and when I ask if they will change their gloves before preparing my order, they do so with out complaints. My favorites here are the pulled pork, pork stuffed potato, RIBS, and BBQ chicken which you get a whole or half chicken smoked on the bone with their house white sauce.

The food at this place is fantastic! The stuffers are massive baked potatoes loaded with toppings. The sampler platter is a great bet because you get a little of everything. You honestly chat go wrong with anything. The staff is also wonderful and so kind. Its a real good group of folks. I do highly recommend this restaurant.

I give this place a 3.7. The rub on the ribs is tasty, which makes up for over cooking them. The chicken was bone dry. The bbq sauce was tasty. The slaw was best part of meal. Overall Id come back because its definitely better than all the fast food and chain restaurants at this exit. The service was excellent.

The ladies at the counter where outstanding and so was the ribs and bean. I was very disappointed that the potatoe salad was not house made neither was the dessert. I thought being a small local place that it would be more fresh and made there but its not. But if you like Sarah Lees pies its the place to go.

Food was out fast during lunch. Was all hot, temp wise. They dont have fries but Cole slaw is best vinegar based ever!!! Pulled pork sandwich was tender and juicy. Husband got ribs... Phenomenal. Under $30 for two adults and two kids. Great place. Highly recommend

We just moved to Alabama this year and the BBQ in Alabama vs is different but good. The BBQ sauce is vinegar based which throws a different taste to it but its a good taste. The sides are excellent as well. Big portions and good food. Its worth the stop!

First time here. Good food, friendly staff, clean. Obviously well-run. I had the combo plate with BBQ pork & beef, with vinegar coleslaw & baked BBQ beans. It was great. And Im from Memphis, so I know my BBQ. Will come back next time Im passing through.

The BBQ is very good. I like the ham with the white sauce and pen with the vinegar sauce. The stuffed potatoes are really good. They run daily specials during the week that are a great deal.

Only downside is they are closed on Sundays. The biggest decision about eating here is deciding on the Turkey or Pork....both delicious. Then choose the white or red bbq sauce.
