El Vez (the sit down, not the burritos to go area) is probably geared more towards tourists. It has a large seating area, and is conveniently located near tourist attractions. My co-workers and I came in for a team lunch on a Wednesday at around 12. The place was pretty empty. To start, we ordered some guacamole for the table. It was basic. Maybe even less than basic because it tasted a bit too limey and my coworker agreed. Since I wasnt too hungry, I just ordered the tortilla soup (chicken, avocado, crunchy tortillas, crema fresca & queso fresco). I feel like Ive had better soup at the office cafeteria. The chicken had this weird leftover taste. I did like the cheese though. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing because I think the table over ordered the milanesa torta, which looked pretty great. On top of the sub-par food, the restaurant smelled like a really strong bathroom cleaner. Not exactly an appetizing smell when youre trying to enjoy your meal. I dont expect to be coming back to El Vez.

Good, not great food at reasonable downtown Manhattan prices, portions are good and wont leave you super bloated afterwards. Good selection of Mexican beers. Nice for a quick bite at lunch with coworkers or an evening dinner with clients, Ive done both. Im not from the South, so I dont know how "authentic" their food is, but its pretty typical for any good Mexican restaurant in the North East. I had the chicken burritos and they could have been a little "cheesier" but were tasty. The venue is quite big with a reasonably sized bar area, so even a whole department could probably have their end of year party here Im sure. The area has a lot of offices, as well as a healthy number of tourists, as its within shouting distance of the waterfront at Battery Park, and the World Trade Center complex. It doesnt have a big "name" so its not as crowded as the nearby Shake Shack, and when the weather is good you can sit outside and just people watch.

Went here for a lunch with my team from work. Have also ordered lunch from here on multiple occasions. Space and ambiance are nice, clean, cheerful. Staff got us seated right away, and server answered our questions helpfully. Food is always very good. Ive had the burrito and the chicken torta. The chicken torta (2 pieces of fried chicken breast, cheese, poblano (?) peppers, spicy mayo, etc) is excellent. There may even be too much chicken on it! Also, their guacamole is very good and they have some options if you want plain, super spicy, etc. Prices are reasonable as well (at least by Manhattan standards).

El Vez has both a dine in area with a large selection of Mexican food and a burrito bar that you can take to go. The dine in area has great guacamole and tacos, however the portions are a tad small and a bit pricy. The burrito bar usually has a long wait during lunch but is worth it. You select what you want as you want as you move along the line, however there are a ton of options, including Korean beef, quest cheese and you can even get pineapples as a topping!

This was my third or fourth time here and by far the most disappointing. Most visits would be four stars, but today struggled to be two. What Ive learned: stick to the tacos al carbon. A much more generous portion for your money, but more importantly -- they have flavor. The oxtail and chicken enchiladas were sooo bland. Basically just stewed meat in a tortilla drowned in warm tomato puree. The blood orange margs are usually killer but today I wasnt feeling it.

We came for a friends birthday. There were about 14 of us, and they gave us a back table. Food was awesome but not huge portions... top reviews were for the mole, but I got the nachos and found that I got more food that many people who ordered tacos. We got pitchers of margaritas to share, which I was also very happy with. They were strong and delicious. There were at least two other birthday groups celebrating as well. This is clearly a good place for groups

Only giving it 2 stars because the cucumber mint margarita was good, but the lamb tacos were a disappointment. I should of took a picture of how pathetic the plate looked. Two little rolls, and like 6 slices of cucumber or something on the side thats it. No side, no garnish, no nothing. And thats just the outside. The lamb tasted like tough gyro mean and it was just so plain and flavorless. Ive been to el vez in Philadelphia before and this one was terrible.

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was really good. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service could be improved. The waitress was really nice up until we said we declined any drinks or starters then she became quite unfriendly. I understand that means her tip isnt as much with a smaller bill but her attitude out us off the dessert and coffee we were planning at the end - we went elsewhere for that!

During lunch time I go here for their best Mexican rice bowl.It has amazing number of items that you can have in your rice bowl.Better than all franchise like chipotle/DOS Toros that servers boring ingredients. Also this is THE place after hours as well.Best tacos. If you are a vegetarian or not you have to try their Cauliflower tacos.Good dining option and good selection of taquilas.

El Vez has it all. Seriously delicious food - highly recommend everything, but the tacos, guacamole, and nachos are my favorite. On top of that, superb drinks along with a great ambience that is fit for friends and family with children alike. The management and service is also very acommodating both on the phone and in person. High recommend for a delicious meal out.

This place has really cool decor. We came here for brunch and there was no wait. Service was fast and our waiter was attentive. We had the chips and salsa, and felt that it was nothing special. I had the beef burrito and really enjoyed it. It was extremely filling and had a side of guac. My husband had pancakes, which were okay.

Oh my do I love this place, the burrito bar is phenomenal, I go about once a week just to get my fix. The portions are very generous and the flavors far surpass Chipotle and moes for the same price. The restaurant has great drinks and Ive only had the nachos, but they are top notch, definitely not a place to pass up.

Anyone who says Yankees cant do authentic Mexican food are way off. El Vez was a great stop after a trip through the memorial. The chicken tacos for two was plenty for 3, no exaggeration. Although they charge you for chips and salsa (a punishable offense in Texas), service was great and food worth returning for.
