Food is decent to good depending on what you get, but the service is TERRIBLE. Do not go if you dont have a lot of time, like for a lunch break at work. We got in at 11:30 before the lunch rush, and it was 45 minutes before my sister got her sushi, and then found out they hadnt even put in my order to the kitchen. I ended up paying and leaving without having any lunch. This was our second visit since we usually give places a second chance, and the first time service was very slow as well. Bad service twice in a row is really just not worth it though. There are other Japanese restaurants.

Ive been to this place a couple of times, and I do enjoy it. The place has good service and the servers are nice. I enjoy the sushi there, but sometimes it takes a long time to prepare so it isnt worth it to order it, but they told us the wait so we knew. The miso soup there is very tasty. All the food I have had there I have had no complaints about. They also have a decent drink menu too. It is a little more expensive than Id like given the portion size, but overall it is a yummy place and one of the best you can find in Madison.

I placed a reservation via phone call a month prior to the dinner date, knowing that it would be a busy weekend. I called a couple days before the date only to hear a voice message that said "we will be closed for about a week." And no one from the restaurant bothered to CALL ME to let me know that they were going to be CLOSED on the night of my large reservation? Very disappointed in their service...

this is a good sushi place, considering you only really have two choices: here or takara. i would definitely recommend taraka over this place, especially during the lunch special between 11am and 2pm (not sundays though). wasabi is not a bad place, but nothing too exciting either. go to takara. oh and the calamari was horrible - dont order that!

I have been in Japan for 4 months and I love sushi and sashimi, but the best, gorgeous, fresh, tasty sushi I have ever eaten is in Madison at Wasabi. I was surprised because the local looks low-level, nothing special. The other food (noodles, miso soup, etc.) is good, but not as superb as the sushi is! It is pretty pricy.

I have always enjoyed the sushi at Wasabi and it is my favorite sushi place on State St. However, the portions arent that big and it is a little pricey. The wait staff has always been very friendly and prompt with taking my order. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone with a sushi craving!

Sushi tastes as good as if not worse than buffet sushi. Sushi rolls are super tiny. Tempura danburi was great but the proportions were way too small for the price. Overall, the visit was very depressing. I was craving for sushi and my expectations were definitely too high.

I used to love this place, but the last few times I have gone to Wasabi I have been unhappy with the sushi. When the sushi comes in is pretty warm and I prefer my sushi on the cooler side. There are places on state street i know prefer to eat at over this one.

Over 45 minutes waiting to get our food, waiter only stopped by once, and sushi wasnt that great and the portions were small. It wasnt even busy. I made a mistake with this one, because the reviews were good. Maybe this is the best Madison has to offer?

Food is really good and have never had a bad meal. Service is poor. We arrived at the restaurant with only three tables filled. Ordered only sushi. It took 45 minutes to be served. Need more staff!

Very nice sushi place. Futomaki sushi, many kinds of rolls, Nabeyaki udon and Tempura udon were very good. Hibachi steak was also very nice. Not very expensive but nice restaurant.

Really friendly staff. Variety of options for the whole party. My wife had a fall sushi roll with butternut squash and loved it. I had the Philly roll which was great.

The food was not bad for the price but it was not impressive in flavor either. Our server was wearing exercise shorts and a beer t-shirt, very unprofessional.

I wish this restaurant had better State Street exposure. Ive been coming here for years, but Im sure its tough for new patrons to find them! So delicious.

Although there are better options for sushi in Madison, this one is still great and has a great location on state street, especially after Takara closed.

Waitresses were inattentive, atmosphere was bland, and the sushi was okay only. Walk the extra block down State Street and go to Takara instead.

Tried Unaju and Tonkatsu, Unaju is good, but Tonkatsu is too salty and its rice amount is too small for a man. Service is just fine.

Decent food, reasonable prices, and good view from the balcony. My wife didnt like the sushi as much, but I prefer spicier sushi.

PO

Very good service, occasional great fish, but very stingy portions for the price. Good, not great, not a bargain.

VI

Pricier than other comparative sushi/Japanese restaurants Ive been to, but the food and service is good.

JE

Cheap sushi, bad service. Had a waitress actually walk up to me and ask why she got a small tip

Sushi and drinks were good. Not the best in the world but for the price cant complain.

Not bad sushi, but kind of over prised. 3 pieces salmon +1 piece tuna for 11 dollars.

Dont come here unless you think California roll is sushi. Then this is your place.

NI

Really fun and creative sushi but the portions are a bit small given the price.
