I have no idea why people give this place such high reviews. I went there with my children midday on a Friday and the place was basically empty (not surprising since it was an off time). It still took a little while to get my food, a country fried steak, scrambled eggs with cheese, and pancakes. The only part that was good was the eggs. Otherwise, the steak was completely and totally covered with a very thick layer of the gravy (which smelled like ramen), was small, and felt reheated. The pancakes also did not seem super fresh either, my kids had a hard time stabbing them with their fork, plus they were salty. All together, with the outdated and old decor, left something to be desired. Weve eaten at our share of divey places, but I know that we will not be returning to this dive.

Pine Cone Cafe has been around for a long time and weve been coming here for over 10 years off and on. It is not the best diner Ive been to, but its very true to its roots and I consider that a bonus. On my latest visit I had a Diner Diet Plate - the old school combo of cottage cheese with a hamburger steak and tomatoes. It was very good, a large portion for just $10. Back in the day they used to serve Fried Chicken & Spaghetti, which my family LOVED - but I havent checked for it in awhile (Im not supposed to eat that much anymore). They still have their lunch counter, pie safe and much of the old decor...probably last updated in the 70s or early 80s. Fun to visit!

We go there on average once a week. The food is old fashioned comfort food, the kind that sticks to your ribs and makes you happy! Our favorite thing to do is to get steak and eggs, and they make it to perfection. They use healthy ingredients and the service is great! The restaurant was started n 1951, long before I was born so I enjoy going and occasionally if it is during the day I meet the members of the community that have been here the longest. There are lots of meetings at the Pine Cone Cafe as well. The staff is younger so it is a good mix of people

So this is certainly not for a younger crowd. Its old fashioned in a way that isnt a foodie kind of way. First of all dont get me wrong, nothing wrong with the food. It was just food I could have easily made at home with no need for much breakfast food know how. However for those that cant cook an egg themselves the pine come cafe does offer that home cooked meal feel. I just think if can be whipped up in 5 minutes at home why bother going out to experience the same.

Longtime staple of University Place. Very popular for breakfast but I hear lunch and dinner are good as well and they have world-famous spaghetti. I always go for brunch because they serve breakfast all day. I enjoy the eggs benedict and country fried steak and eggs. My girlfriend really likes the taco omelette and S.O.S.

They have a great breakfast menu, affordable, lots of food for your dollar. Hey they also got some single Hotties working there....over all a good place to grab something to eat, have good conversation about the local are and the Offical Eatery of the 2010 US Open....

Food is meh...place is old school diner and services mostly elderly whose taste buds are not as good as they used to be! Its okay in a pinch. Everything comes in frozen and a lot is nuked. The owner purchases by least expensive rather than better quality.

Its ok but definitely a place for much older people. I can see that it probably has a lot of regulars who have been going there for years, a lot of years. It is outdated but clean and the food is good but water tastes weird. This place is a local dive.

Standard American diner with good breakfast specials. I generally only do breakfast here, so I do not know how they do otherwise, but they make a mighty fine plate of blueberry pancakes. Friendly service and a cozy atmosphere.

As far as University Place goes, Pinecone is really probably one of the most recognizable local food joints... And thankfully its pretty good! Its got an old-fashioned diner feel to it, and the breakfasts especially are great.

First time here and loved it! Becca, our server, instantly made us feel welcome. Her upbeat attitude, jokes, ability to do her job while holding a conversation, all will have us coming back as how she said "repeat offenders"

This was a very old fashioned breakfast place. The set up was cute, but the food was just ok. There was nothing great about this resturant. I would definitely choose somewhere else over this place.

This is the West side hot stop for breakfast and meeting friends. A circa 60s venue with food and wait staff to match. Big portions and the coffee just keeps coming. Lunch is equally rewarding.

Definitely my favorite breakfast/brunch spot in University Place. Consistent good meals and service. Quite crowded on weekend mornings, but Ive never had to wait for a table of two.

Diner style restaurant. Server was very polite and attentive. Food came out on time and was customized as I asked. Very good experience and Ill be back. Also prices are good.

Wait staff is awesome! I needed a breakfast for a champion and enjoyed the blueberry pancake, eggs and beacon absolutely delicious! In my Arnold Swartzneggrer voice, "Ill be back".

Just happened now, my friend and her hubby are having breakfast there. My friend sent me the pic when they serve the drink. Lipstick stain will came out if they washed it right.

What can I say about a restaurant Ive been enjoying for over 40 years! Definitely a local favorite, in fact dont bother going on Sunday after church - very crowed :-)

The food here is acceptable and the waitstaff are friendly and helpful. The prices are a little high but, not ridiculous. All in all, a fairly good experience.

Just your typical diner food. The waitress was very nice and showed personality. We got every thing we needed. Good spot for lazy or hungover breakfast

Really good food and the waitresses are great but the owner is not very friendly and to be frank if he was gone it would be the best breakfast in town.

Cute restaurant, good wait staff, good variety of food. Sadly they charge full price for a refill of lemonade, which are small glasses to begin with.

You cannot beat this place for friendly, efficient staff, amazing food, incredible atmosphere, and price to serving size. Six stars ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★.

Extensive menu with lots of options. Food is fair-to-middling. Nothing really stood out as excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Long time University Place restaurant. Menu has remained the same for decades. I like the halibut and chips. I love to have breakfast there.

This is one of those places that everyone is a regular! The food is consistent in good quality and you can never go wrong with their Burger!

Smallest eggs I have ever seen, friendly staff good service a little pricey for what you get food is good depending on who is cooking
