This is perhaps the best Indian food I have eaten anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.. I should have given the decor a 1 (but wont, so not to lower his review rating), but as another person said, it is a hole in the wall with not the greatest ambiance. However, I would take good Indian food in a dingy hole in the wall building then crappy Indian food in a palace. You will simply not find better Indian food than this place. The owner is an old Punjabi guy who is also the chef. Im looking forward to going back again to try the buffet, but it is a bit far from me in University Place. The prices are not super cheap, but not overly expensive either. The portions are quite good and they dont skimp on the meat. Im hoping this guy can get some visibility, since his food really blew my mind! Another great Indian place to try is the East India Grill in the mall in Federal Way. Im a fan of both places, but have to say the edge goes to the Mahal.

I came in on crutches and had instant judgment and questions from the worker about what happened to my foot- I asked for the check as I was finishing eating I asked for the check and the guy told me I could go up to the register to checkout, so I did that and was asked about my foot again and just a blank stare when I responded...I saw all the great reviews on google and 20 year anniversary sign so I figured this place would be great if they can stay in business 20 years. The service was extremely slow it took over an hour to get the food and the Mali kofta was the worst I have ever had. The garlic naan did not look apatizing either and the Mali kofta was dry and the flavor was well below par. Spicy with them is not spicy at all. The somosas were excellent but that was the only good thing about this restaurant. They are on the pricy side for how bad the main dish was.

Great take-out, the owner is super cool, extremely friendly, the food is always amazing, this is my first choice for Indian food in Tacoma. The atmosphere used to be a little underwhelming but they recently redecorated and there was a lot of really cool Indian art and photos today, plus a better seating arrangement. Ive been there a handful of times and the food has never been less than tender, tasty, and quick. One warning would be medium was pretty hot for my taste, and I normally like spicy. However the garlic naan was soft and packed with flavor, so it took away some of the bite.

Just okay. Friendly staff, wanted to love this place but the food was lacking the flavor and panache of other Indian restaurants. The naan was a bit off. The chicken tikka masala had a kick of spice to it, but otherwise was not as saucy and flavorful as it could be. Ive never had it made with chicken thigh, only white meat, and Ive dined in several very authentic places across the U.S. (Im sure its completely different in India) but from what Ive even had in the area this is pretty lacking in flavor and quality. Karma in Puyallup is wonderful though a bit more of a drive.

Our family of 7 has been coming here every Christmas Eve for 20 years (yep, since they opened, when our oldest was just a year old!). Amarjit and the service crew have been wonderful! The food is amazing, made fresh with authentic Indian spices. Our friend Dan, from Delhi, stays with us for a few weeks once a year and he says the flavors are just like home. For a casual lunch or an anniversary dinner this is a place to make memories and absorb real East Indian culture!

Terrible Indian food. Greasy. Tandori chicke was tasteless and not grilled like Tandori but baked with Indian spices. Not sure what resteraunt these other reviewers were eating at but this was truly most unauthentic Indian food I have ever had and the worst. I love Indian food and have eaten quite a bit. I recommend Indian resteraunts in Seattle or Tacoma, but stay away from this place. Plates were dirty and service was terrible.

I love this joint. My wife and I have lived down the street for 3 years and it never gets old. If you are willing to explore the menu youll find some surprises. The garlic naan is killer and the kashmiri naan is world class! I rarely make it in for the lunch buffet and it isnt the full menu but it is all the go to stand bys. Well worth you time.

The food is amazing. We came when the place was empty (2:15) and the owner took special care so that we got the food he thought wed enjoy. He asked a lot of questions and helped us decide what to order. He even put more hot naan on my plate when he saw that I was out! This place is super clean and friendlt to LGBTQ.

Didnt even attempt to eat here. Sat down in there were ants crawling on the table. The owner seemed annoyed that we would leave without eating. His excuse was that they must have come from the pizza restaurant next door, but I dont care since they were in the Indian restaurant where I wanted to eat.

I love India Mahal. I have been to several Indian food restaurants around the Puget Sound area and India Mahal is by far the best. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. Ive introduced many friends and family to India Mahal and everyone raves about it and vows to return.

Really good Indian food. The people were super-nice. What it lacks in designer corporate interior design is more than made up by the authenticity of this family-run restaurant. I would eat here every week if it were in my home town. Ill be back whenever I pass thru.

Was ready to just walk out. We waited over an hour for less than stellar food. It wasnt juicy nor flavorful just bland. And not warm. Not to mention expensive. It was cramped in there as well. Next day went to Gateway to India on 6th to have some real Indian food.

Small restaurant, big flavor! Nothing fancy here, its small, with a small buffet table, but BIG in tastes! Tasty butter chicken, tandoori. OK for small groups. Free parking in lot. Lunch buffet (of course). Moderately priced.

The food here is delicious and decadent. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, but its worth it. The service is warm, and you never feel rushed. I go out of my way to eat here when I want amazing Indian cuisine.

Just had my first experience with India Mahal and Indian cuisine. It was delicious! I highly recommend trying them out and returning. The Chai tea is terrific and compliments the food perfectly. I loved it!

Great food! Owner is a great guy, he even let me borrow a CD once that he was playing in the resturant! Highly suggest. Laid back. He made my gf an off menu item as well which was above and beyond.
