I love this place. Well, I did. Ive eaten here multiple times a week for the better part of the past year, and Ive always enjoyed it. I was therefore a bit disappointed when this location closed down for 6 weeks to remodel. I made several trips to the West Oly location, because I do enjoy the food, though I was anxiously awaiting the Tumwater reopening. Since that happened, the big topic of conversation has been...what remodel? A couple new light fixtures, and a coat of paint? It would have been nice if you could maybe fix the holes in the wall, or even clean the nasty carpet that sticks to your feet when you walk on it. As people have began asking, rumors all around the bar suggest that it wasnt a remodel so much as it was 6 weeks of cleaning up years of rat infestation. But thats just bar talk, no big deal. Im hungry. The first night the bar reopened I went in and ate. Went home and threw up. Something didnt agree with me. It happens. Went in last night and got pork nachos. Went home, went to bed feeling a little ill, and woke up in the middle of the night with a violent illness that I wont describe, which resulted in a $500 memory foam mattress that is now ruined. Whatever you did during your "remodel", I wouldnt advise doing again. Definitely wont be back.

Me and my significant other went out to eat a well deserved "cheat meal", as we abstain from carbs almost all together. There were 5 tables and only one waitress with a 6th table being set shortly after we got there. We waited nearly a half hour for our queso fundido and when it finally came to the table was so watery we sent it back.....a cheese dish should not have been watery at all. Our good came out and my Chile tinga was about a third of the size as listed on the menu, the cheese on my beans smelled rotten....everything was lukewarm at best. Manager was just walking around like he had no care in the world.....not even helping the one wait staff they had, poor girl looked like she wanted to cry. We get our check and discover they charged us nearly 5 dollars for a scoop of sour cream and guacamole for a combo plate....combo plate came out to 20 dollars?! Dont think we will be coming back here whatsoever......super disappointed in the service, staffing issues and laziness on managements part and less than mediocre good. What a waste of a Saturday night meal for 40 bucks

I was there on November 11, 2010 and as I was ordering I asked a simple question about bean dip and charging? U would think no problem, right? Well the waiter/manager told me I had no idea about free bean dip and how long they were in Tumwater! Than he said I was lying about food? In which my wife and I had no idea since Ive been away from Tumwater in the military. The only statement I made was it used to be free and he said never which we really didnt care at all, it was just a question since we remembered it before I left 15 years ago. Then we were over charged for the bill after that in whuch we were called lying again! Then they seen we were being charged for the bar and we were in dinning. They mistakingly gave another couple a free meal ans expected us to pay for their mistakes! NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN!!!!!

We really didnt get far....we did get seated and received our chips and salsa. We noticed our chips were a little stale but we were starving!! We had just ordered our drinks when I spotted garbage in our chips!! I got the server and showed him, and he asked if we wanted new chips!! I explained to him there was NOOO WAAYYY I wanted anything else! Obviously they recycled the chips (there was a straw wrapper)! I got the manager and he escorted us to the door, he did apologize.... This was the second time Ive been here and was disgusted by the cold food and terrible service the first time. I swore Id never go back. So really, my dumb fault. Do not go here!!!

I would love to know what happened during the "remodel" as I have been there 3 times now since your reopening anxiously awaited it and so different know the same dishes I was so pleased with before . . The carne asada and arroz con pollo and the great service are not the same. The chicken was hard and you could not chew it the rice seemed dry and old the steak did not have the flavor...i keep trying to go back and give it another try but so fisappointedp mvmana k

Today is Saturday , April 23,2016. I just got off the phone after ordering two dinners. The online menu is outdated and I was made to feel that it was my fault. The woman who took my order didnt like how slowly I was ordering (because the things I wanted were not listed the way she understood things). She put me on hold because she had other things to do. I finally got an order taken. El Sarape has a lot of improvements to make about phone orders.

This restaurant has been and still is our favorite local restaurant. The waitstaff, cooks, managers, greeters... all of those who work here are top notch. Weve been going to the El Sarape for a long time in Tumwater and in Lacey for decades. The foods better than any other Mexican dining youll find in this area. The prices are right too! Thanks! Dennis

Food is always quick. Its always been fine with our young kids. Id recommend going with a basic drink or one of their margaritas, specialities are just soso. Highly recommended getting the queso!! Ask for bar beans, refried beans with cheese and jalapeños, with your chips its free, theyve never made me pay even in the restaurant ;)

We had a baby shower there. Reservation wasnt logged. We were able to get the room since it was 4. On a Monday. The tables were dirty, salsa on tables, no chips. Got one drink, never asked if I wanted another. Oh, the room was cold and our server was rude. I as a cashier will NEVER recommend them to anyone.

Nice atmosphere, excellent service, speedy meal delivery, friendly staff, good quality food. I ordered the fajita burrito and it wasnt what I expected, it had some kind of strange red sauce on it and was not a fajita in a burrito. Which is why I rated them at 4 stars instead of 5.

Doesnt take "buy one get get one 1/2" Bears card when their on the card. Says they didnt ask permission to give out coupon but its been on it for years. And didnt tell me till after I ate my meal. The rice wasnt fully cooked in some spots and the beans were dry

Above average food, great service. Very pleasant experience mainly due to energetic and very helpful staff. All the staff pitches in and will service a table no matter whos section the table is in. Its nice to see and experience.
